INTRODUCTION
Change is perhaps the most avoided part in the society and business environment.
Changes are very important to gain the competitive advantages, increase revenue and
profitability of the company. This present report will consider the case study of British Airways
Swipe Card Debacle. Report will include identify the need for change and will discuss the
problems faced by company in implementation of change.
MAIN BODY
Problems- the need for change.
Changes are vital for organisation in any of the areas in the business. British Airways has
introduced a system called Swipe Card Debacle that record the log in and log out time of staff
members. This is electronic machines which have great benefits to the company as well as it has
also become a need of the change within organisation. There are lots of reasons associated with
the this electronic sensors as the identification provided by this machines is highly faithful. It has
better access to the employees presence (Ølnes, Ubacht and Janssen, 2017). In addition to this,
employee's of BA are showing inefficiency in time management skills so this change of bring
biometric machines within organisation work perfectly for employee's time management.
Further, the unethical, behaviours of employees in respect to absentees and time issues was also
an another reason for implementing this change. So, this machine helps in timely attendance of
employees which deliver benefit to the company.
Further, the operations of British Airways is very giant which sometimes create
complexity for human resource management in crediting the salaries of employees, so it is very
important for BA to change the system and make the system and process easy and effective.
There are lots of benefits that let company to bring change in the system as it also monitors
remote employees (Pugh, 2016). In addition to this, this Swipe Card Debacle also improves the
job satisfaction of employees as management can identify the extra time devoted to the company
and recognised there work. Organisation development is also one of the reason for need to
change as this technological innovation has also raise the productivity of the company.
Causes of the problems.
The culture of organisation is one of the biggest reason that has causes of the problems in
implementing changes within business operation's. The unethical behaviour of employees is one
of causes of the problems that make organisation think for implementation of Swipe Card

Debacle. Lack of conviction by employees that this system is finally good for the company.
Employees are not ready to accept the change because employees used to renders on the
traditional methods. Further, the manual system is highly questionable as compare to biometric
system within organisation (Lientz and Rea, 2016). Manual system are not reliable and accurate
because it is handle by the human beings that have possibility to commit mistakes. British
Airways is constantly facing issues during the crediting of salary. They are extremely facing the
issue of inaccuracy in payroll system of the company.
So, in order to overcome the issue, company has decided to introduce the change in the process.
Another cause of problem is that manual system is highly time consuming for the
company so to solve this issue, BA has decided to introduce this system as it is highly time
saving activity. When human resource management used manual system they have to update the
attendance on employees attendance sheet which took too much time and affect the productivity
of the company (Noe and et.al., 2017). Inefficiency in the system affect the entire productivity of
the company so it is important to implement latest technology within operations. Lack of
consistency is another issue that organisation in manual system which has affected the
productivity of the organisation in negative way. So in order to overcome this issue, British
Airways has introduce changes in order to overcome the issues prevailing in the company.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that changes are very important for
organisation in business environment to gain competitive advantages. Changes are vital for
achieving competitive advantages in the market. Organisation culture plays a vital role in making
the changes successful. Report has concluded that technology is very essential for organisation to
raise the productivity of the company. Change management system is essentially needed for
supporting change.
