INTRODUCTION
The report of “preparing for professional career” will comprehensively highlight the
professional standards and codes of practice maintained in the “BAM constructions”. Report will
include a detailed overview of the company, explaining the roles and responsibility of the
stakeholders. Further, organization's moral and ethical responsibility will be depicted (Bagnall
and Nakar, 2018). Also, the value of corporate governance and leadership will be explained in
detail. Report will also shade light on an important professional body RIBA (royal institute of
British architect) that enhances the professionalism in the company. At last a detailed structure of
how regulations and codes of conducts are incorporated in the operations of the company will be
mentioned.
MAIN BODY
OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY
BAM construction is a united kingdom based 3rd largest construction company, started in
1996. It undertakes the operations like construction, civil engineering, property, public private
partnership, electrical contracting, mechanical and consultancy engineer sectors. Headquarters of
the BAM constructions are situated in Netherlands and it has more than 19000 employees in the
organization. It provides building solutions including new and existing ones. It focuses on
understanding the customer's need and delivers according. Every year it delivers thousands of
successful projects. To deliver the best customer services it has a wide network which covers the
Scotland, England and Wales. It currently has projects in 30 countries where it is running the
operations. The recent project it is working on is Nuneaton town development and
redevelopment of paradise circus of Birmingham (Cousins, 2022). The recent developments at
the organization which has given the edge in the industry are sustainability and technological
advancements.
BAM understands that success at business can be achieved only when various
shareholders associated with business are involved at every step. It practices various methods
like client surveys, sector meetings, benchmarking and direct contacts to engage with the
stakeholders. BAM has classified its stakeholders in 6 key groups such as the clients, society,
suppliers & subcontractors, employees, providers of capital, regulators. These stakeholders have
various responsibilities towards the organization. First is clients, they hold utmost importance as
entire business revolves around them. It is the responsibility of clients to communicate the wants

and expectations to the BAM so that company can deliver the project accordingly. Second is
society, it built important facilities like schools and hospitals etc. which affects the society. 3rd is
suppliers and subcontractors, construction project requires continuous supply of various raw
materials and prices at which the material is supplied affects the final budget of the project,
therefore it is the responsibility of suppliers to keep nominal prices and continuous supply to
deliver the project in budget and on time. 4th is employees, it is the responsibility of the
employees to bring the utmost productivity to the organization, as the BAM is totally dependent
on employees for smooth working (Crosby, 2019). 5th is provider of capital, the parties or people
who provide financial capital to the business have the responsibility to take clear interest in
decision-making of the company's capital. 6th is regulators, government authorities or the bodies
that regulates the working of the organization, it is important to maintain healthy relationships to
have smooth operations.
MORAL AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF BAM
There are various ethical and moral responsibilities which BAM constructions has to take
care of. Being a construction company, it involves various labours ranging from unskilled to
skilled class, which make it have work ethics for the employees. It does various public and
private projects which affects the society at large (Furlotti and Mazza, 2020). Such things make
it more responsible towards the society. It has four major moral and ethical responsibilities like
accountability, honesty, transparency and work ethics.
Accountability, BAM constructions is accountable towards the various stakeholders by
making such building, hospitals, schools etc. which ensures the safety of the people. Delivering
projects with the utmost responsibility towards the society. As the BAM operates and uses many
natural resources like water, land, wood, fuel etc. it has become more accountable towards the
society, the recent commitment by the company about zero carbon emission by 2030 has shown
that company understands the social responsibility.
Bringing transparency in the way of working and involving stakeholders in each step, so
they have the continuous updates and information of the operations. Client should be kept well-
informed about the type of building materials is used, subcontractors involved and time required.
Honesty in the approach of working, organization should involve kindness, fairness in the way of

Work ethics, construction requires large number of workers from different skill sets to
complete a project. Healthy working practices like zero harassment policy on the work place
which can make the employees safe and bring the utmost productivity. Paying timely and
appropriate salaries to the workers, addressing any issues and problems they are facing at the
construction site, offices.
IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
Every successful organization has a rock solid leadership and having a good leader is the
pre requisite of a construction company. BAM constructions undertakes many projects in a year
which includes both long term and short term projects. Such projects involve many people
onboard who are skilled in various things as flooring, cementing, carpenter, plumber, electrician
etc. therefore it needs a strong leadership in the organization which can bring effectiveness in the
operation along the different verticals (Khushi, Archana, 2022). Construction has a long term
impact on society which needs a leader who has an ear for expectations and feedback of the
society, a clear communication to its subordinates about the goals and visions of the company so
that the authenticity of the organization is visible in each project delivery. Such strong leadership
leads to the achievement of the organizational goals.
Corporate governance in BAM construction is very structured as it defines the way of
working of the organization. It has adapted the Dutch corporate governance code. The corporate
governance ensure the financial viability in the organization as it takes care of each such cost
incurred to the company and totally believes in cost effective methods for the viable finances in
the organization. It holds major importance as this ensures ethical business practices in the
company, a construction company has to deal with many such authorities for the paper work and
sometimes bribing come in the way so it is important to have strong corporate governance which

Professional bodies are very respectable in every industry. These bodies are important as
they provide trust. It is the professional bodies which makes the public put their trust in every
person or establishment associated with the professional body. Professional bodies helps figure
out the authenticity of the profession by establishing various standards and norms, which defines

the way of working for the companies in the respective profession. Such bodies work in interest
of both company or enterprises and the public or clients. It tries to establish healthy relationship
between clients and company by setting up the platform which ensures honest practices by the
company in serving clients and in case clients face any problems they can reach out to the bodies
(Li and et.al., 2019). Overall professional bodies defines the core values which becomes the
strong reasons for the companies and professional to be a member of it.
Various codes of conducts are established to enhance and maintain the profession., such codes of
conduct establishes the dos and don't for the company, it defines the company's mission, visions,
goals, principles and based on all these the standards of professional conduct are set. These are
the references for the employees in the company, it also helps with risk mitigation and
compliance. If a subordinate in the company doesn't abide by the code of conduct, they may face
strong compliance issues (Rudolph, Murphy and Zacher, 2020). In construction company the
codes of conduct helps in determining the quality of work and professionalism that is needed to
perform a job.
RIBA'S POSITIVE INFLUENCE AND ENHANCEMENT OF PROFESSIONALISM
There are various professional bodies in the UK which regulates the construction or
architecture industry. One such very reputed body which is continuously working in order to
enhance the professionalism in the industry is RIBA, it stands for royal institute of British
architect. RIBA established in 1834 for the advancement of architecture, this institute serves the
society and members for the purpose of delivering better places and buildings, considering the
sustainable approaches towards the environment (Love, Smith and Teo, 2018).
There are many ways in which RIBA has positively influenced the organizations in the
industry including BAM construction. It has helped in setting strong codes of conducts for
maintaining the high professionalism in the company. Due to such codes employees easily
identify the road map of operations and the way various functions should be carried out in the
organization. RIBA has many a time acted as a protecting body for the companies interest, as in
case of disputes and conflict of interest it intervenes and determines the best measures for the
company. It has set the reputation and bars high for the companies in the industry when it comes
to the customer satisfaction as it made enterprises understand the importance of customer centric
approaches. Over the years it has made companies in the organization understand the importance
of the sustainable environment approaches for the long term growth and establishment of

strong commitment in this order to have zero net carbon emission by the year 2030 which has
turned out to be the best measures adapted by a company in the industry. It is the professional
bodies like RIBA which uplifts the organizations by motivating them to do better both for
society and themselves.
CODES OF CONDUCTS AND STANDARDS IN BAM
BAM is providing the construction solutions since 1874. Over the years it has developed
itself into a big construction giant providing solutions to many sectors. Such growth and
development would not have been possible without the structured codes of conduct. So time to
time company has constantly recognized the values and codes it needs to develop in order to
have improved and effective business operations. The code of conducts at BAM supports,
designing, maintaining and building as what they do and Making sustainable environments
which enhances lives of people as the purpose of the company and collaboration, learning,
effective performance as how they achieve the goals (Minke, 2021).
At BAM, Such codes were incorporated in the organizational structure flowing from the
top-level of hierarchy going to the low levels of the hierarchy. As when employees notice their
bosses and team leaders abide by the codes and standards, it becomes easy for them to
understand the importance of the codes and following the same. Further, giving employees one
on one training to develop better understanding towards the codes and practices. Also, company
has introduced several measures in case of inability to follow the same to ensure the seriousness
of the protocols. The recently introduced codes of conducts in the organization are sustainable
approaches of working at every level of the organization and reducing carbon emission to meet
the commitment of zero carbon emission by the year 2030 (Niţu, 2019). This has been
implemented in the organization with the help of introduction of practices and alternative ways
of performing the jobs to ensure the codes. Such measures have over the years built a great deal
of professionalism in the organization.
CONCLUSION

of practices in detail. A detailed overview of company including the types of business and
stakeholders roles in the company has been depicted. Report has discussed the moral & ethical
