 Introduction
• Barangaroo Project is globally renowned urban renewal project on
the western waterfront of Sydney’s CBD, managed by the
Barangaroo Delivery Authority on behalf of the NSW Government.
• Environmental impact assessment is a technique which recognizes
the impacts of project plans, policies or program on the environment
before the start of the actual implementation of the project.

 The Barangaroo site
• Barangaroo lies within the boundaries of Sydney City Council, whose planning is deeply
based on the rigorous tender process, Environmental Assessment, affordable housing, trade-
off on the design for the public good and limits on building heights
• The site is generally rectangular in shape and it has a 1.4 kilometer harbor frontage and
Hickson Road to the eastern street frontage. The figure below is an illustration of the site.

 Barangaroo project impacts
Waste Management
• During the construction of the project, space will be allocated in the basement level to accommodate
the approximated levels of wastes within that given level.
Water Quality Impacts
• It is not expected that the project will in any way lead to significant water quality impacts in the
nearby Sydney Harbor
Air Quality and Odour
• From the studies which were carried out the dispersion modeling predicts that there will be
exceedences of the NO2 and PM10 levels as a result of the basement retention system excavations
and the large scale excavation emplacement works

• In conclusion, Environmental impact assessment is a technique which recognizes the impacts of
project plans, policies or program on the environment before the start of the actual
implementation of the project.
• There are many benefits for carrying out an Environmental Assessment of the Barangaroo
