Introduction
The Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya is one of the most well known race track in the
world. The circuit was opened in the year of 1991, on 10th September. Situated in Montmelo
of Barcelona city, the circuit was established by the Town Council of Montmelo, the Royal
Automobile Club of Catalonia and the Catalan government. Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya
held the first race just after five days of its inauguration (Circuit de Catalunya 2018). The
event was a Spanish car championship. After few weeks of the event, the popular Formula
Grand Prix was held in the circuit on 29 September.
The circuit hosts some famous events including the prestigious Catalan MotoGP
Grand Prix, Spanish F1 Grand Prix and so on. International championships like FIIM CEV
Reposal International Championships are also held in the circuit (Circuit de Catalunya 2018).
Apart from racing competitions, Circuit de Barcelona also rents its circuit for other sports-
related events. In addition to that, several public relation events are held in the circuit. Over
the 25years, the circuit has been able to be positioned as one the supreme race tracks across
the globe. The circuit is considered to be a unique venue, which gives different kinds
experiences. The location of the circuit makes it one of the most prominent tourist spots for
the visitors of Barcelona.
Discussion
The major challenges that the Circuit de Barcelona is currently facing are regarding
the surface of the racing tracks. However, Circuit de Barcelona is famous for arranging racing
activities, some major issues have found that need immediate attention.

Surface track
During some prestigious sports events, few accidents were found to be reported. The
poor surface of the tracks was identified to be the main cause of the disasters. As major
racing competitions are held in the circuit, the surface of the tracks gets scratched (Loft,
Morrell and Huf 2013). It has been observed that when races are held frequently in the
circuit, the maintenance and repairing of the surfaces generally become impossible due to
lack of time. While racing, the drivers feel difficulties to control their cars because of the
unfavorable surface which sometimes results in minor to major accidents. Sometimes, the
person who is responsible for maintaining the surface of the tracks neglects the importance of
maintaining the tracks, which is one of the major reasons of the inferior surface of tracks.
The other reason behind the poor condition of the tracks is that the circuit holds other
events such as public relation activities and social events apart from sports events. As the
circuit is primarily built for the purpose organizing sports events, the other events hamper the
surface of the tracks (Loft, Morrell and Huf 2013). Therefore, it can be stated that maintain
the supreme quality of the surface is important in order to arrange the prestigious sports
events in the circuit. the governing authorities of circuit de Barcelona, the Town Council of
Montmelo, the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia and the Catalan government need to give
immediate attention to the issue concerning the poor surface of the tracks.
Lack of efficient workers
Another major challenge that the circuit is currently facing is the lack of effective
workers in order to maintain the racks. The employees at the grass root level have found with
lack of adequate knowledge as to how to maintain a racing track. It is mandatory to be
mentioned that the maintenance of racing track requires special techniques as it is different
from others (Loft, Morrell and Huf 2013). The employees currently looking after the

maintenance do not possess the required knowledge of maintaining a track. As a result, major
accidents happen. The employees responsible managing the grass root level employees found
to be inefficient to perform their duties. The other issue concerning employee efficiency is
the poor employee management. The overall employee management of the circuit de
Barcelona is in a disadvantageous position. The circuit is lacking a proper employee
management structure in it. It has been found that the grass root level employees are not
aware of their actual responsibilities and duties in the circuit. Therefore, it is seen that the
circuit fails to organize a prestigious event successfully.
Solution to the issues
The Circuit de Barcelona needs to give immediate attention to the issues that have
been highlighted in the above. Therefore certain measures can be suggested so that the circuit
can manage the issues.
Track management
In order to address the issue related to the poor surface track, the circuit should adopt
track management strategies within their management. The race track management includes
different technologies as well as techniques through which a concerning employee can be
able to maintain the race tracks (Loft, Morrell and Huf 2013). As part of track management
strategies, the employees will be required to survey their own circuit as well as the other
circuits in the world. They will be evaluating the strategies followed by other circuits for
example hoe they manage their overall circuits and what are the strategies have been adopted
by them in order to maintain the quality.

Employee management
As the issue of poor employee management has been highlighted, the circuit is
required to take possible measures in order to make aware the employees of their actual
duties and responsibilities (Goetsch and Davis 2014). Efficient supervisors need to be
appointed by the circuit to look after whether the grass root level employees are properly
working or not. The existing employees of the circuit can be trained in order to increase their
effectiveness. The training will develop their sincerity towards their responsibilities and
duties.
Conclusion
The circuit has successfully maintained its position as the supreme race track in the
world. It organizes several prestigious sports events throughout the year which are of both
national and international importance. Despite its reputation, the study found that certain
major challenges and issues also exist in the circuit that needs immediate attention. The
issues have been highlighted are poor condition of the race track and inefficiency of the
employees in maintaining the track. In addition to that, several measures have been
mentioned in order to address the issues.
