Introduction
The present study deal with a project that is based on travel and tourism and in this project, the
city, which has been chosen, is Barcelona. Travel and tourism sector plays an important role in
the economy. Plan has been made to travel Barcelona for preparing this project and students
were known to learn such things regarding tours and travels in the city. Hence, this project has
been required for developing a digital brochure. Barcelona is a city with full of tourism resources
and activities (Mason, 2015). There are lots of things to do like exploring the historical sites,
heritage buildings, museums, galleries, gigantic football stadium of the club ‘Barcelona’,
shopping malls and many more. The city offers some beautiful sea beaches in its package of
travel and tourism. This project explores political, social and cultural, technological, economical
and environmental factors which impact on the respective project. The present study emphasizes
upon the knowledge about travel and tourism. SWOT analysis and risk assessment, project
phases, skills to be developed and learning form this project are going to be manifested in this
project with the help of theories and models.
1. Background and Context of the project
The project involves developing and designing a digital brochure that is based on travel and
tourism of Barcelona. The city is one of the best destinations in terms of travel and tourism as it
has enormous tourist attraction sites and activities in the city (Marine-Roig, 2015). We as group
gathered critical information regarding the political, economic, social and cultural along with
environmental issues in the chosen destination.
This project provides the insights about travel and tourism system of the city. Through this
project, we can explore the features and the facilities of Barcelona. It is essential to get the
information about weather condition, cultural programs, transportation, accommodations,
learning opportunities and others.
The trip to Barcelona has provided us the opportunity to learn and to get familiar with the issues
in travel and tourism. As benefits, we can learn different language, society culture and its cultural
program which may help us to understand the people of the city and it may help to improve
interpersonal relationship skills. Learning is primary aim of the trip to gather more knowledge,
development skills and experience in travel and tourism system.

2. Analysis of trans-disciplinary models/theories
Travel and tourism system management defines an understanding of various dynamics to serve
customers’ requirements. There is a requirement to perceive countless issues and challenges
regarding our study trip to Barcelona. The trip requires coordination, cooperation, and
organisation, careful planning to make it successful. Hence, the strategies of the project should
be effectively implemented. The Dunn & Dunn model can be significant for the help of
achieving the desired goals.
The Dunn & Dunn model was developed by Dr. Kenneth Dunn and Rita Dunn. The model
emphasizes the use of a several instructional procedures and activities (Rogowsky et al., 2015).
The instructional techniques should match individual’s learning style. This model involves two
essential activities. These are:
● Understanding the learning style of individuals
● Planning and implementing the learning activities
Learning is a procedure by which knowledge and experience can be gained. From this point of
view, The Dunn & Dunn model is consistent (Özyurt, 2015). The trip would equip organisations,
students and educators with lots of new experience which support the procedure of learning. This
model points out that the learners should apply their ideas and experience to real-world
challenges. After the trip, students should employ their knowledge and experiences that have
gained by them in Barcelona to overcome the challenges in travel and tourism.
SWOT analysis
There are several factors concerning strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats have an
impact on the realization of the aim of this project. Travel and tourism sector in Barcelona is
affected by various issues which may affect it positively or negatively. However, we need to deal
with all the factors as strength may lead to opportunities and weakness may lead to threat.

Politically, Barcelona is not at all stable. The
turmoil is happening as Catalonia does not
want to be the part of Spain any more. This
may affect on the economy and as well as the
travel and tourism sector of the chosen
destination.

Risk assessment
This project is associated with risks that need to be addressed to understand the expected results
from the study trip. A risk assessment plan should be described to identify the risks and
overcome. As Barcelona is not politically stable, it can be a risk to travel there. The safety and
security of our group can be a matter of concern due to this issue. It is necessary for us to use
internet-enabled device like Smartphone and tablets to stay connected with each other.

3. Project phases
It is required to have careful preparation, accurate planning and proper implementation in order
to achieve the desired outcomes. Travelling entails several operations and activities that need to
be performed in a specific time frame.
Preparation
As stated by Kerzner, (2017), Careful preparation is the key for the project as it set the
foundation of the project. Preparation is an essential tool as it enabled organisations and
individuals to be prepared for the task. We did our preparation cautiously. At first, we got a team
with five members. We have discussed about the learning contract and the deadlines. Then we
discussed about the suitable destination for the project and after a lengthy discussion we all
agreed to make this project on the city, Barcelona. Before we choose the destination we had to
research properly and the reason of choosing Barcelona was the attractiveness of the city. The
city has offered various tourist attractions and usually there has been a pleasant weather
condition throughout the year.
Planning
Planning is an important part for making a project work successful. With accurate planning, a
project can be successfully done. The project entailed proper research concerning Barcelona to
make sure that this is the best destination to visit. We have come up with the accurate planning
and the procedures to execute those plans in better manner. We researched to get the information
regarding the political, economic, social and cultural, technological and environmental factors of
the chosen destination.
Implementation
Implementation is the final and vital part to make the project work happen. It is necessary to
implement the plans for achieving the desired outcome. The project involves several activities
and that should be done by exploring various places of Barcelona like city’s attractions,

entertainment, shopping destinations. The first day, the plan is to arrive in a hotel and refresh in
its well-furnished guest rooms. Everyone needs to ensure that everything they required is
provided. After that, we have to join our other participants for a reception whereby interactions
can be done and important information and experiences can be shared. Then, we need start our
work as a team and the work should be done in constructive manner. The same schedule should
be followed by us up to 7th week.
4. Skill developed for solving work-based problem
There are some skills that need to be developed to solve work-based problems. The purpose of
the project is to learn and develop professionally and academically. We need to learn and apply
the skills to solve the work based issues and challenges. These skills are-
Communication skills
It is important to have good communication skills for the growth of career. Good communication
skill may improve individual’s interpersonal abilities which help to self-develop academically
and professionally. I have learned about the communication skills through this project. I learned
to communicate with each other in the group via email and whatsapp. This helps me to enhance
my ability to communicate with others. I learned to communicate with the people of Barcelona
and for this I had to learn the respective language of the city. This has certainly helped me to
learn new language and that should enhance my communication ability.
Team work skills
Strong teamwork can make the work better in quality and it can be finished within the given time
period. I like working as a team that can benefits for improving my management skills. I have
understood the importance of working as a team. I met with my teammates for several times and
discussed the project requirements. We shared different ideas and made plans for developing the
project. My skill has been improved and it must help in the future projects.
Technical skills
Technology is the key to make a digital project successful. It is necessary to have good technical
skill in order to make the research project successful. Through this project, we have used

technologies to collect data regarding the travel and tourism of Barcelona. Personally, I gained
more knowledge about the technology by using mail, whatsapp, videos and that should enhance
my technical skill.
Interpersonal skill
Through this project, I have learnt to interact with others and that helped me to build my
interpersonal skill. I got the opportunity to meet new people and I have learnt the importance of
working as a team. With the help of this project I have learnt how to negotiate with each other
and make appropriate decisions. I have understood that the skill is needed to interact with the
people of different cultural background in the chosen destination. The study trip has helped us to
meet new people, make a good relation with new friends and share new experiences.
5. Analyze and evaluate the action
The action entailed the variety of activities which includes preparation, planning and
implementation. I have taken part in all the given activities to learn about the process of making
the project work. I have participated in several discussions. I have shared my point of view while
choosing the destination for the project. It was important to have a proper team work to finish the
project successfully and we worked as a team. Every procedure was to be classified with the
guiding study material and objectives. The action has focused on encouraging everyone to take
part in this project by performing their assigned responsibilities. The team anticipated that the
members would be satisfied and the trip would be successful.
Most activities were efficiently executed in order to get the positive outcomes. The activities
were managed by ensuring that everyone should remain obedient to tasks. The research process
involved documentation, making proper arrangements, discussion of issues and challenges,
seeking commitments from individuals. The main focus was directed towards learning and it was
expected that this project would benefit all the members. The participants would be equipped
with the skills, knowledge and experience that may help them in their future projects.
Nevertheless, it was tough to get the proper collection sometimes as the management of the
respective destination is weak. Due to the political turmoil, we had to face some issues to explore
the city. But apart from that, the trip was successful.

6. Learning from the project
This project offers the opportunities to learn that relates to educational achievement and career
development. With help of this project I have learnt various type of skills that can be applied to
overcome the work based issues and challenges. These skills are communication skill, technical
skill, team work skill and interpersonal skill.
Since the start of this project, I have been active and through this project, I have come to know
about the political, economic, society and its culture, of the chosen destination. I have researched
about the impact of travel and tourism of Barcelona on the socio economic condition of the city.
The city has offered a vast scale of tourism services and products which includes sea beaches,
hotels, museums, galleries, Barcelona football ground. In this way, this project has enlarged the
perception of individual regarding travel and tourism sector of Barcelona. As per the strength
and the opportunities that the city has, it can be said that this city can improve in the travel and
tourism sector. New technologies are coming in this part of the world and with the help of these
technologies things may change in a positive way.
I have learnt to negotiate and make proper decisions that may help in the future projects. I have
learnt how to do self assessment on myself and improve my skills. I learned about the different
theories and models that supported my research work. I have identified my strengths and
weaknesses and learned to enhance my strength and reduce my weakness. I have improved my
research skill and ability through this project. I have learned about the difference between
primary and secondary research which helped my research skill to be improved.
Team work was important for this project and we have worked as team. Personally, I have learnt
to adjust in a team and work with my teammates. We met in the class and discussed about the
project requirements and the procedure of making the project. We have shared our thoughts and
ideas through mail, whatsapp and videos and made several plans for the project. According to
me, that has helped to improve my communication skill which is very important in every sector.
It has helped me to interact fluently and freely with others.
The skills that I have gained can improve and develop my career. I have gathered a lots of
experience which is required to manage the project work.

Conclusion
The aim for this project was to engage the students in travel and tourism management and learn
several skills from the trip to Barcelona, Spain. It involved various procedures such as
preparation, planning and implementation, which needed to execute carefully and professionally.
Hence, the activities were aligned with the students’ learning objectives. It has been identified
that Barcelona is a city of full of tourist attraction. From the above discussion, it can be analysed
that the particular destination was politically unstable. That issue is leading to the poor growth of
the economy and that may affect the travel and tourism sector in negative way. Hence, there are
several skills that have been mentioned like communication skill, technical skill, team work skill
and interpersonal skill. These skills may improve the students academically and professionally.
