Research Proposal: Barriers to Transition in Sickle Cell Disease

This research proposal outlines a study designed to analyze the barriers that patients with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) encounter during the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare settings. The study aims to identify specific challenges, such as the lack of support and educational resources in adult wards compared to pediatric wards, and to propose recommendations for improving the transition process. The literature review examines articles published within the last ten years, highlighting the importance of family and nursing support, as well as the effectiveness of tools like SMART in improving the transition. Using Kurt Lewin's change management model as a theoretical framework, the research hypothesizes that implementing the recommendations will ensure a smoother transition. The study will employ a qualitative research design, using semi-structured interviews with experienced nursing professionals in adult SCD settings, and will utilize Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis for data treatment.
