INTRODUCTION
Healthcare refers to organized provision of providing a wide range of services to the
people who are a part of the community (Agbo, Mahmoud and Eklund, 2019). Maternity unit is a
sector in Healthcare in which the focus is put on the pregnant ladies who are expecting their
babies. Therefore, it is quite important that the specific focus is put on them which will help in
meeting out the needs and requirements of these ladies. In this report, a detailed focus will be
made on Basildon Maternity Unit and the different types of challenges which are present under
it. Thus, in this report the focus will be made on the analysis of these challenges. Also, the
solutions which can be developed to meet out these challenges will be discussed as a part of this
project.

Challenge 1- Delivering of the experience according to the standards.
In Basildon Maternity Unit, the experience which is being delivered to the pregnant
ladies who are expecting their child is not according to the standards which have been set. These
ladies have to face plenty of problems in dealing with this particular challenge (Ahmad, Eckert
and Teredesai, 2018).
In the Maternity Unit, there is a lack of staff and thus the Doctors and Nurses are not
available sometimes to look after the patients. This leads to an increase in their problems and
makes them vulnerable to facing diseases.
Thus, the lack of concern and awareness displayed by the Doctors and Nurses towards
these problems only adds up to the challenges which are faced by these ladies. Therefore, it is
quite important that the Doctors and Nurses are able to take proper care of the patients by using
proper techniques and methods (Alhadhrami and et.al., 2017).
The Challenge has been identified using the Research Strategy of Databases and Search
Engines through which the records of the patients have been created and their opinions have
been identified. Thus, in this way it can be said that the feedbacks which have been given by the
patients have been assessed and this will be quite helpful in ensuring that a strategy is developed
to provide a solution to this particular challenge. The model of Critical Analysis has been
identified to be used here which will be quite helpful in ensuring that the overall assessment of
the patient needs and requirements can be made and a right way of meeting them can be used.
Challenge 2- Lack of availability of beds in Basildon Maternity Unit

In Basildon Maternity Unit, there is a problem of the availability of beds. This creates
problems and issues for the pregnant mothers who are being treated at the hospitals. Therefore,
in this way it can be said that the authorities of the Maternity Unit are not able to ensure that they
provide the beds to the patients according to their specific needs and requirements. This is
affecting the overall level of standards of the hospital which are set for the purpose of providing
of the treatment to the patients.
The analysis of this particular challenge was done by making the use of Research

Through the model of Critical Analysis, the analysis of this particular problem has to be
carried out in detail and an appropriate solution for the same has to be developed. This will be
quite helpful in ensuring that the assessment of the problem is made and the appropriate steps are
taken in order to solve it. Its use will be recommended in Basildon Maternity Unit so that the
treatment is provided according to the healthcare standards which have been set in the country

Challenge 3- Lack of refurbishment in the Maternity Unit

Solutions
It is quite necessary that a solution to the challenges can be developed which will be
highly helpful for the hospital in ensuring that the functioning of the Maternity Unit can be
maintained in a proper manner. The solutions which can be used are explained as follows-
Solution 1- The hospital has to make sure that it is able to deliver the services according
to the set standards (Chen, Liu and Peng, 2019). This can be done by ensuring that a detailed
analysis of the maternity standards can be made and thus the services are improved. The use of
performance-measurement techniques like KPIs, Benchmarking and Balanced Scorecard can be
made so that the overall level of performance can be assessed in the right manner and therefore
the desired level of improvements can be made.
For the problem of staff, it is required that the recruitment of the Doctors and Nurses can
be carried out within the hospital so that the needs and requirements of the patients can be met.
This can help a lot in ensuring that the staffing problems can be resolved quite effectively and
efficiently.
Thus, it is also quite important that the Doctors and Nurses are told to display concern
and awareness towards the patients so that they can be treated properly. This will be helpful in
ensuring that the problems of these patients can be resolved in a right way.
Therefore, Basildon Maternity Unit’s administration has to look forward towards this
particular solution as it would be highly helpful in ensuring that the appropriate medical

equipments can be used for the purpose of providing the best medical treatment to the patients.
A checklist can be developed for this purpose and the areas in the need of an
improvement can be ticked so that the development of appropriate approaches can be done for
the purpose of bringing an improvement.
Overall, a Budget has to be set in detail for these activities because it will be helpful in

that the right solutions can be developed for this particular purpose which will be helpful in
ensuring that the different types of goals and objectives related to providing the best treatment
and facilities to the patients can be met which will result in a higher-level of patient satisfaction
level.
