Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment delves into the practical aspects of battery testing and flashlight troubleshooting. It outlines methods to determine if a battery is dead, focusing on voltage readings during charging and the physical bounce test for alkaline batteries. The assignment then explores common flashlight issues, such as dim lighting, flickering, and failure to turn on. It provides troubleshooting steps for each problem, including checking battery terminals, cleaning contacts, and addressing battery acid leakage. The document emphasizes the importance of proper assembly and maintenance for optimal flashlight performance, offering a clear and concise guide to diagnosing and resolving common electrical device malfunctions.

Solution
How to tell if batteries are dead
a) On charging it is noticed that the charging cannot reach higher than 10.5 volts, the battery will
be categorized as dead.
b) When Power is being unloaded at instant with greater production of heat on the event that the
battery has been fully charged.
c) Another physical test will involve when one drops an alkaline battery with its flat negative end
down from a length of some meters above the ground level if the battery bounces and fall
immediately it means that the battery is dead, because in the process hydrogen gas is produced
creating pressure and this will enable the battery to bounce and topple.
How to test flashlight
Flashlight is a simple circuit, that consists of batteries that provides electrical current which
flows through the switch, then outside the flashlights body through the circuit head light and
returns back to the battery
a) The batteries are checked at a point when the light is shining dimly this could be due to
weak batteries, which may require fresh set of replacement
b) Flashlight flickering
This could be caused by dirt at the contact, that will require a clean-up at the point where
the body touches the head at the tail cap
c) Flashlight not turning on
The battery should be checked if the terminals are correctly placed.
Improper assemblies of flashlights may cause the flashlight to be off, so always
proper assembly of flashlight must be considered.
Leaked battery acid leaked in the flashlight may insulate the conductivity of
electricity, hence no light will be produced, therefore a consideration of ensuring
that no leakage of the battery chemicals touches the flashlight should be in place.
