the organisation. It is the tool for human benefit. In this topic we cover the various fields of
Organisational Behaviour like an organisation culture with in the BBC, what is the kind of a culture
that prevails in BBC how that culture affect the working environment, it discuses about the power,
organisational politics that affects the employee behaviour and its performance. In this topic

within the BBC. It will also cover how different levels of motivation will help BBC to achieve its
goals, the barriers faced by BBC for its effective performance. Report will also use different
concepts and theories to enhance the productivity and performance of employees within the BBC in
order to achieve its goals and smooth functioning of its business.
TASK 1
1. Culture, politics and power of BBC influence individual and team performance
Culture theory of Charles Handy-
Organisational Culture influence employees of BBC-
First one is power culture which used in the BBC by limited people who enjoy the power of
their position. They have power to take decision. They are responsible for any critical decision and
they have authorities to take decisions of other employees regarding to their designation. It affects
on the staff because some people use their power in wrong way and demotivated employees
(Anagnostopoulos and Papadimitriou, 2017).
Another one is task culture which depend on the task. The work which will complete by a
team and it also makes effect on BBC because some people work for achieve goal, some works for
critical cases some of are interested and less interested so it makes bad effect on the employees and
it breaks team building capacity. They have to work with coordination.
Person culture is also influence to BBC because in the organisation some employees are
dedicated towards the goal of organisation and a few employees are less dedicated to the
organisation, they only think about their personal profit rather than organisational profit.
Role culture is a model in which the employees are selected on the bases of their education
and skills. In this culture the employees does not satisfy with their designation because they can't

take opportunity to express themselves.
Influence of Power and Political Behaviour of Managers on BBC :-
BBC has influenced by internally politics and power. It affects badly on employees at work
place. It influences directly on decision making capability of BBC. Due to this, overall productivity
of BBC will affect. This factors create both positive and negative impacts of BBC.
Some employees who have more power and high designation take advantage of their post
they do what they think. If they want, then they can help other employees to achieve their goals and
if they don't' want then they can affect anyone by their power and politics.
Higher level employees have to motivate other to increase productivity to achieve goal of
BBC. If an employee use power negatively and demotivate another one then it is depends on
employee that what to do (Anagnostopoulos and Papadimitriou, 2017).
Ignorance is the best policy to live in a company. Avoid negative vibes and gain positive. It
is also possible what they do partiality in gender and don't give a chance to promote any men or
women and it happens in mostly places. So it impacts both positive and negative ways.
TASK 2
2a content and process theory of motivation
BBC is undergoing with significant changes. Recently its poor culture affects the overall
working efficiency of business unit to great extent. The major goal of BBC is to develop a culture
where employee be more committed and they give their best output.
Content theory of motivation
Maslow's hierarchy of needs:
It is a five tier pyramid model of human needs. For organizational structure it is important to
identifying that those are relevant to work environment or not.
It divides as the priority :-
1.Psychological needs – Food, water, air, shelter, clothes these are basic biological requirement
for human to survive. In workplace BBC can provide simple things like snacks, clean water, and
coffee or tea will go in a log way to meet your employees basic psychological needs .
2.Safety needs - Job, financial, health, personal are some securities which employees need from
their workplace.
Supervisor can make sure that the environment contains no safety hazards. They can also provide
mental security by explaining how to become more effective and efficient in the workplace, helping
them feel safer in their position with the company.
3.Social needs - This theory deals with love, friendship, and communication. BBC can address

that employees have to socialize and feel part of a group by creating a work environment that gives
opportunity to interact and participate. Additionally, celebrates birthdays and anniversaries.
4.Esteem needs - It includes personal ego, self respect, achievements given to the employees.
BBC can appreciate the work by a simple round of applause time-to-time to meet this need. It will
encourage employees to do more better. They can also give employee awards in a year will create
goal oriented organisation.
5.Self-Actualization It includes personal growth, self-aware of employees.
BBC can apply this theory by identify where their employee hope to go as achievement in the
company and help them to get their. But remember that what motivates one employee does not
necessarily motivates others (Motivational theory, 2018).
Fredrick Herzeberg's Theory of Motivation:
Also known as the two factor theory of job satisfaction.
1.Hygiene Factor- It includes salary, relation between supervisor and employees and with
colleagues.
BBC's managers can take care of the fact that what makes individuals feel good or bad about their
job. And by take away the dissatisfaction and create conditions for satisfaction.
2.Motivational factor- It includes sense of personal achievement, status, promotion. If the BBC
work well with these factors it results in high motivation and strong commitment of employees and
motivate them for a superior performance.
Process theory of motivation
Expectancy theory
This is considered as most essential motivational theory that explains that companies are
required to understand expectation of individuals working in the organisation. Performance of
employees is highly depended upon various factors: skills, knowledge etc. Efforts of person,
motivation and performance are highly associated. If BBC enhances its efforts to motivate people
then it will be able to retain skilled workers in business unit for longer duration. This will support in
developing healthy workplace culture (Hashim and Wok, 2014).
Goal setting Theory
This model states that in order to fulfil goal of business unit, companies are required to take
appropriate feedback from workers. This enhances performance of workers to great extent. Clarity,
challenge, commitment, feedback and task complexity are major principles of this theory. If BBC
Company raise incentives for the staff members then it would be beneficial in order to accomplish
task quickly and in efficient manner (Motivational theory, 2018).

TASK 3
3aIdentification of different types of teams which BBC should include and their importance -:
The company BBC is falling down because company has not different types of functional
units. Company has not its proper unite structure because each functional unit handles one aspect of
the company like product and services unit, information technology, marketing, finance , research
and development etc. which helps to balance the work load equally. Here is the case on BBC which
is suffering from big losses. Company can not overcome from this loss if BBC will not include all
departments.
Functional unit: It includes information technology marketing research and development
(R&D) finance, HR. There are some basic functional units where finance department hendls all the
financial activities and release all the funds requirements, this department makes the salary of
employees and all the import export financial terms. Marketing is a functional unit which provides
all the marketing facilities. This department control's on all the marketing activities. Like supply

products and how their development should for future aspect. Information technology is one of the
most important and useful unit which provides all the information of market, equipments, and keeps
connect with another useful companies and units. This unit keeps up to date. this involvement of
functional units will be helpful to overcome from bottom.
Problem solving unit-: BBC must include problem solving departments. Which can be
helpful to solve any problem inside or outside. Problems among employees have seen several times
so that's why they do not interact or help each other. so it could be also a reason of falling down of
company.
Project unit-: There is another requirement of project unit which work for the projects
which has to be given. project team makes raw diagrams for future implementation (Kitchin, 2017).
BBC should include research and development department also because the graph of the company
is falling down so this department can be helpful to research about new products according to
market trends (Hashim and Wok, 2014). This department will also helpful to give innovative ideas.
Social department can also include in functional unit which can engage the company from society
to know their feedback for future. All the functional units are somehow inter-relates to each other.
so it is an integrated management system. Every functional unit has its own aspect for the company.
3b Analysis of effective team
An effective team has effective process, good communication, appropriate leadership. In
effective team people express their ideas to each other, good balance of skills and abilities.
Tuckman model of team development -
Model of tuckman refers that team building also build ability in an individual, develops
quality, develop relations. Four stages of team development are following -
Forming -
In this model a team leader allocate the work to the employees on individual bases. High
dependency of employees on leader regarding work in BBC. its is also good for workers because
they do the work which allot to them and on the bases of this they improve themselves and create
ability to understand the work that what the company BBC wants. But workers faces many of
problems like looking outside for guidance.
Storming :-
In this phase many ideas come from team members of a specific team and they try to know
that how they make existence in the organisational structure. It is called idea generation stage in
which the employees generate new ideas and talk to each other that how to perform for it. It might
be possible that idea is good or bad (Kitchin, 2017).
Norming :-
In this phase the process of team development starts. after idea generation it is the stage of
Document Page
implementing the idea. How to implement the idea with rules and regulations in BBC. This is the
stage in which everyone exchange their problems to each other. The team of BBC is ready for start
a new task with coordination of each other (Hashim and Wok, 2014). They start to ignore the
differences between individuals. and accepting one another.
Performing :-
In the stage of performing the team is able to perform with ability of decision making. They
are able to solve the critical problems with coordination of each other. No need of instruction, team
of BBC became more comfortable and flexible. Resources are allotted for perform the task.
Other contributing factors :-
1. Role of leadership -
-motivate to employees
-Admitting mistakes
-Promoting positive thinker
2. Communication :- It is the process of transforming information from one side to another side.
Sending or receiving information.
3. Personality :- It is defined as the characteristics of the person which gain from the internal and
external environment. It indicates behaviour of an individual.
4. Goal clarity :- Ability to set objectives which clarify the actuality of goal.
TASK 4
4a Improvement in team and their performance
Path-goal theory is also known as path-goal theory of leader effectiveness or path-goal model. This
leadership theory was given by Robert house in 1971 and revised in 1996. According to this
theory, leader's behaviour is contingent to the motivation, satisfaction and the performance of his or
her subordinates.
According to this theory, leaders are responsible for the motivating, supporting, and inspiring
their subordinates which also means that they are able their improve performances and make them
more productive in the work place. The team performance and productivity can be improved in
BBC as this theory focuses on various leadership behaviours but it has examined Directive,
Supportive, Participative, and Achievement-oriented leadership behaviours.
Directive Leadership: By adopting this leadership behaviour the leaders of BBC must give its
followers instructions about their tasks and also gives the guidance on the regular basis how the task
is done, what is expected from them within given time frame. It will set a clear performance
standards and targets can be achieved properly (Wood and et.al., 2016).
Document Page
Supportive Leadership: As per the supportive leadership behaviour, leaders should adopt friendly
approach towards its sub-ordinates within the BBC. Supportive leadership behaviour will treat its
followers as equally important, gives them respect, therefore such behaviour will improve the
performance and the productivity too.
Participative-Oriented Leadership: Through this leadership behaviour BBC's leaders can invite
its followers to take part in decision making process. So the employees of the BBC can share their
opinions, ideas, suggestions etc which will be welcomed by the company such leadership behaviour
will improve the performance and productivity of the company as the followers will feel that their
ideas, opinions suggestions etc are valued by the company.
Achievement-oriented Leadership: Leaders of BBC should establish high standards of
performance to its followers and should also seek continuous improvements from them.
So Path-goal theory provides the useful framework and will help the leaders of BBC to
understand how different leadership behaviours will affect their followers satisfaction, performance,
and improve their productivity. Such theory will motivates the followers and also get committed to
their work. It assumes that leaders are flexible and help them to adapt their leadership style to the
situation.
This theory will ensure the leaders of the BBC to improve their organisational output by
influencing their employees and guiding them in achieving the goals. As all employees are
motivated intrinsically or extrinsically I.e. monetarily and non-monetarily, it will also improve their
team spirit and will also be able to carry out their work independently.
4b These are some main barriers to effective performance within the BBC -:
Organisation culture culture has became a liability for BBC because rules and
boundaries has not allow the company to change its organisation structure. Usually this happens
with already well established companies which has based on the old culture company can not adopt
new things. Culture as barrier to diversity when culture restricted the company for the selection
process where nepotism is still in existence. these type of company does not carry their selection
process for applicants. diversity is required because many people comes from different different
places. they have uniqueness, experience, innovative ideas much better instead of people of similar
backgrounds.
Barriers of communication - communication is the life line of any business. But some time
it can cause of barriers .noise inside the company can be cause of barrier.
Lack of planning- some times lecture takes a lot of time instead of short presentation can
also a barrier of communication.
Wrong assumption- some times we act on assumptions suddenly without knowing anything.

words can affect badly.
Language barriers- semantics, poor message, verbal, non-verbal communication. Language
barriers at different different place.
Psychological barriers- filtering, fear, emotions. In this barriers another person can play with
your emotions inside the organisation.
lack of trust and respect- trust and respect are important factors inside work place. because
businesses are built on relationship, trust, faith. Strong relationship among the employees can
increase the productivity. Trust can increase the ability to work more in team rather then
individuals.
Applying Social capital theory in case of BBC-: meaning of social capital is participation
, position, in working place of any person. contribute to their lives in certain ways. perspective of
this theory is social scientists, social capital emphasizes commonality for the community strength.
social capital keeps strong effect of physical and cultural capital. This was the positive side of social
capital. social capital is a some kind of an organisation include the trust among the employees and
their satisfaction level with their job and their relations with superiors they can found.
CONCLUSION
From the above, study it has been summarised that Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and
Fredrick Herzerberg's theory of motivation has impacted BBC's work culture effectively by
empower and build trust and commitment in employees for the organization. The theories had
identified the needs of employees and ways and importance of fulfilment by BBC. It helped to
create effective environment of the workplace which resulted in the better performance of the
employees. Although individuals have their expectations, it is the leadership's responsibility to
develop and align with theories that are suitable to bring job satisfaction to their employees.
