INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour is a set of culture, values and behaviour. It is the best way to
help people interact with others in a group or individual. This study is applied in company to
increase growth of business industry. Organisational behaviour is managed by workers. By
studying more about these functions, it provides knowledge about people behaviour in
organisation. It is base on fundamental concepts (Serrat, 2017). British broadcasting corporation
(BBC) is a news channel. It is the oldest national broadcasting industry in London. They
established there business in United Kingdom. BBC is a worldwide server. In this project it
explains the affect of staff behaviour in BBC recent, past, and today. It also evaluates how to
motivate team and individuals to achieve business goals. This unit explain organisational concept
which increase team performance.
TASK 1
a) Factors affecting employees within BBC
Organisational behaviour is very important in BBC, it effects the whole work
performance of company. Organisational culture impact on business growth. Thus, it can be
explain by using Handy's typology theory.
1. Influence of culture: this culture is divided into four parts such as power, role, task and
person. It defines the whole process of BBC. Power defines the behaviour of management in
BBC. They do not use there power equally to their employees. Higher authority members make
rules and regulations over the workers which affect in their work negatively. In the organisation
the manger miss used their power by treating employee badly. It also explains the role of
organisation. According to this culture BBC, manager does not play their role properly. By this
they need to control all the staff members with applying straight rules. Task culture is based on
project or specific problems. In organisation person culture, is unique to others, in firm no one
can focus on employee work they played their own role in themselves.
All these negative activity of organisation culture influenced employee. It also increases
employee turn over. According to Hofstede's dimension employees power distance,
individualism, muscularity and uncertainty avoidance are the points of which helps to explain the

organisational culture easily (Pereira, Malik, and Froese, 2017). The rise of new technology and
globalization influenced organisational culture properly. New technology increase competition in
marketplace which effect the overall culture of firm because it makes pressure by authority over
to employees to work hard more than other news channels. It gets demotivated workers and they
get irritated by this behaviour or managers. Organisational psychology is based on solving
problems of workers at workplace.
2. Influence of politics: In BBC organisation manger used their power by playing politics at
workplace. In BBC organisation make politics in their work, manger make decision how workers
perform their work and to whom they interact to the other people. They appreciate employee
who does not give their effort for making reports better than the others. Leaders does not make
focused on workers' performance (Acevedo, 2018). It creates negative impact on business and
employee as well. Leader supports some members at workplace that create unhealthy
atmosphere.
This type of politics by firm decrease employee efficiency or work and also let-down the
image of BBC at marketplace. All these negative environment get decreasing organisation
success power. Leader of management in BBC used there power of taking decision negatively.
They do not make decision which is unfavourable to employee. They make changes in
organisation without focusing on workers' need and requirement at workplace. It effects overall
business growth as well as employee. Thus, for creating this environment in company employee
turn over get increase day to day.
3. Influence of power: in every organisation power is used to manage employee work and to
achieve business goals or objectives. In BBC manager do not used their power equally at work
area. In company employees miss used their role and responsibility at workplace by pressuring
lower level workers for their work (Hur, 201). Individual person in firm played there role in
different way which highly impact on business performance.
Leader has a different type of power in BBC which they used to increase productivity of
business, such as reward power by providing reward to workers they get motivate them to
perform work better more than now. Legitimate power, referent power, informational power, and
expert power all these power is on in their hand, by having this powers they can take decision in
positive and negative way at workplace. They need to control their power in organisation to
mange the work of employees.

Influence of power, politics and culture affect the behaviour of BBC staff members in the
past. It impacts on their work performance that decreased the effective and also affect the
business growth. In the pastime used of politics and power minimize the interest of employee's
that decreased the service and products cost effectively and efficiency. This environment develop
people turn over and organization faced many issues during this activity. BBC business get
falling down and manager faced barriers within the process of communicating with its worker's.
All these influences affect in the present business environment as well. Misused of the power
manager play there role and give its support to few people that affect the behaviour of
organization staff members. Company positive and negative both culture and atmosphere directly
impact on profitability and productivity of business and also affect its growth and success.
P2 Content and process theories of motivation
Motivation is a process of making employee more creative in their performance. It helps
to achieve business objectives by workers hard performance at workplace. Thus, in every
organisation motivation is very important for increasing employee efficiency and affectivity. It
works at every level of management and department in company. Motivation is of two types,
first content motivation and second is process motivation. Both work together for developing
healthy culture and behaviour of staff members. Content theory of motivation explain employee
needs and changes with time. Intrinsic motivation means to do that work who give satisfaction to
themselves, like doing activity which person get enjoy (Burke, 2017). Extrinsic motivation
define work according to fill the need by others. Like reading books to prepare for exam. BBC
used some motivational theory which increase employee interest at workplace for doing their
work according to their roles.

Content theory of motivation
Maslow motivational theory: According to this theory it divided into 5 levels. BBC
follows this theory for motivating their employees.
11 Self actualization : in this process organisation motivate employee in their work
performance by supporting them and solving their issues and problems at workplace. By
applying this process it increases creativity among workers and they can work more hard

1 2. Esteem: by motivating through leaders' employee get self esteem in themselves. Leader
should appreciate workers for their performance at work area by rewarding and paying
incentives. It creates confidence in workers for making new achievements or doing
something different which impact on the growth of organisation.

1 Safety: BBC needs to provide safety tools to employees. They give training for their
safety purpose, like insurance policy, healthy or safety insurance etc. organisation create
environment which is related to their safety and health. This is the main point which firm
need to focused on it, to make atmosphere better than now at workplace. Safety is major
issue and concern of employee where they need to work.

1 Physiological needs: this is the last need of employee in organisation. BBC need to fill
this need on the base of food, water and cloths. Firm focused on employee basic needs
and try to fill it as soon as possible because every employee join company which provide
and understand their physiological needs.
Content theory of motivation help in providing contextual framework that dealing with
employee's. Under this theory manager need to offer job security, job increase and job
satisfaction that motivate worker's in such things like sense of recognition and achievement of

Process theory of motivation
Vroom Expectancy theory: it defines the expectancy of employees. BBC used this theory for
motivating employee at firm for doing there work effortlessly. This both theory is very beneficial

theory for increasing workers interest at workplace for doing their work effectively.
Process theory of motivation help employee's and BBC to achieve their goals and
objectives that they had in their profession. Through this they can make their innovative and

improve their performance and in the process of achieving aims.

Functional team: this team worked in a group within same goal of achieving success.
They shared their experiences and knowledge with others. Functional team control all the
activity of organisation and employees. They manage the functions of production and
department. The motive of this group is to discuss issues and problem that company has faced
over the previous and present months. Thus, after understanding the whole problems in
organisation, they make report on it and make comment (Cheruvelil, and et.al., 2014). In BBC
functional team play there role by managing the functions and activity of departments. They
make written report of overall functions in company.
Functional team is important for employee's and organisation because they share their ideas and
thoughts with them that help in work performance or in the activity of achieving goals.
BBC has drive there business with a lot of difficulty at present time, so functional team
help them to get all information about the issues and make their solution by make discussed with

Problem solving team : it is a cross functional group. All the members in this group are
related within different departments, for played there different roles but within same purpose.
Their main aim is to resolve problems permanently in organisation. Role of problem-solving
team is to analyse overall issues that has run in company recently. Thus, after examining
atmosphere at workplace they make report on it and resolve the issues. In BBC problem-solving
team played an important role by serving there best services through define the problems
between employee and other staff members or departments.
In this company there are a lot of people are working at same workplace with different
problems, manager of BBC is very dominating in behaviour, they miss used there power over to
employee, that create negative environment around workplace. This is the reason for increasing
employee turn over in firm. All this atmosphere effect there business negatively and stop the
productivity as well. Thus, at this time organisation problem solving team plays there role by
understanding why these all problem get arise and make them stop. This team work as a
motivation supporter to firm.
Problem solving team members play their important role in BBC by resolving the issues of
people and remove barriers in work performance that impact on employee's efficiency.
Project and virtual team: virtual team and project create for managing various department
work in organisation. Project team focused on making projects in good quality and virtual team
work for managing online process. In BBC they both played there important role at the time
when they face a lot of problems in running there business properly (Dulebohn, and Hoch, 2017).
Manager of this firm do not behave equally to employee they create negative environment by
playing politics. Thus, for resolving this issue project team and virtual team work as the other
team does in the company. Virtual team make online communication to customer's and resolve
their issues regarding the services of BBC. Project team handle the overall work of employees
and support them in doing there work properly.

the external environment which they need to manage. Thus, this team will help in completing

b) Tuckman and Jensen's model of team development and Beldin's team roles
At the time of crisis BBC need and effective team who helps them to resolve their
problems and make atmosphere of work better than now. Relation ship between employee and
manager are not so good in company, this will impact on growth of business and production.
Thus, by using Tuckman and Jensen's theory BBC made an effective team. Bruce tuckamn
published this models in 1965. Forming, storming, norming and performing process make
effective team or a group.
Tuckman and Jensen's models:
Step 1: Forming- this model explain the role of a leader or manger. Employee depends on
manager for direction and taking guidance in their work. In BBC leaders should follow this
model for increase employee interest in work (Senaratne, and Gunawardane, 2015). They give
proper guidance to them which help to grow at workplace. By following this forming process
leader of company prepared themselves for answering all the questions of employee regarding
the project work and others in firm. Thus, for caring this behaviour employee does not get
demotivate at workplace and also make an effective team.
Step 2: Storming- BBC used storming model in organisation to resolve problems. This
model help leaders to build strong relationship for making decision to achieve business goal or
resolving workers problems. Storming makes an effective team, which has to focused on
achieving business goals and objectives without distracting by any emotional issues or
relationships. This will increase productivity and growth of making success in firm.

workers. BBC applies this model in their company between employee and leaders. Thus, leader

crisis leader need to motivate workers and also give direction according to worker role of which
make an effective team in firm. This team make discussion about the projects and get developed
its process of work.
Step 4: Performing- BBC faced problems inside in their business. All these problems
increase employee turn over towards the company. Thus, that is the reason of firm following
Tuckman theory, all there models in theories help organisation for making an effective team.
Individually or group focusing on there problems and process of performance. In this model
BBC wants that their employees developed confidence in themselves for doing there work
without any support. Organisation need development in workers and make them able to handle
decision regarding task work. Thus, by developing these skills on workers make an effective
team in firm.

Successful teams need good behaviour in organisation, which help them to collaborate
with other staff members at workplace. By following Beldin's team roles BBC divided staff
members in team where they play there different role and characteristics. Resource investigator,
team worker, Co ordinator, plant, Monitor evaluator, specialist, shaper, implementer and last
completer finisher these are the 9 effective teams, who played their different role in organisation.
There aim is to manage the functions at the time of difficulty and raise the process of achieving
business objectives and goals. They all are worked within the same purpose, but different stages.
BBC makes an effective team by following models and also used motivation techniques that
increased its interest in performances. Organization support and understand connect with people
for a long term period and through effective communication firm identify their issues and resolve
it as soon as possible that make an effective team.

BBC need to resolve issues inside the company to achieve success better than other
broadcasting industries (Antonakis, and House, 2014). Thus, for it organisation do many things
to get improved employees relationships with their team leaders. The company following Path
Goal theory of leadership.
Path goals theory:
This theory is based on leadership and their behaviour in organisation toward there
employees. BBC need to improve their manager behaviour at workplace. According to this
theory, in organisation leader behaviour should be motivated and supportive regarding to
employees. Motivation is very important for workers because it increases efficiency among
them. In company manager need to behave very politely with their workers and support them for
completing their tasks. Leadership style is the best way to explain whole process of this theory.
4 types of leadership style:
1. Directive leadership: this leader have the knowledge hoe to manage work in
organisation at what time. Thus, it gives direction and guidance to employee and make them
clear for doing there work effectively. This process help to improve performance level of
workers and business productivity. This will help BBC to achieve their goals.

2. Supportive leadership: supportive leader role is to motivate employee at workplace for
the purpose of raising their performance levels. BBC leader give support to staff members in
their projects by motivating this will increase there performance levels more than now.
3. Achievement oriented leadership: BBC leader expect from employees to achieve the
highest stage of performance in firm and also increase productivity by performing hard work.
4. Participative leadership: in this type of leadership style, leaders of BBC played there
important role by working with their workers ans also take part in work by giving their own
ideas or opinions in there task decisions, its improves employee performance and firm
productivity.
Team performance and productivity will improve in BBC by using path goals theory. Managers
and leaders of the organization have leadership skills in their profession that help in the

b) Barriers of effective performance in BBC

unnecessarily consuming time of organisation, it is the barrier of making high performance and

and managers is a barrier which impact the overall performances of BBC.

individuals for achieving business goals. This unit present two types of motivation which helps
them to encourage employees towards their work performance. It also has to provide different
types of teams such as functional, project and virtual team, that play there role in different sector
for the purpose of improving performance and productivity of overall business.
