INTRODUCTION
Organisation behaviour is a way of interacting individual with others within organisation.
It is a scientific approach which is applied to the workers of business enterprise. Positive
behaviour of employees towards company and its operations result in growth and success. It is
the process by which workers contributes their efforts to achieve company goals and objectives
in allotted time frame (Miner, 2015). It is an essential concept for management and functioning
of all companies. This report is prepared in context of BBC which refers to British Broadcasting
cooperation. The company operates its business in UK by John Reith. The company provides
British news and current affairs to its consumers. It supplies overall news of country through
various channels such as, radio, television and online news, etc. This report covers impact of
power and politics which affects behaviour of BBC staff. In addition to this, some theories of
organisation behaviour along with improved level of motivation which helps BBC in attaining
their goals are also been evaluated under this project.\
TASK 1
A. Organisation culture
Organisation culture refers to beliefs, customs, values and behaviour of individual
towards management. Culture plays an essential role in organisation to achieve goals and
objectives in time and also to run business operations smoothly. In this regard, the organisation
culture of BBC also affects behaviour of staff in recent past and today. The power and political
behaviour of managers affects company's environment. Discrimination in gender, castes and
religion affects business and relationships between employees performing within BBC. It is
important for company to have positive atmosphere. There should be no discrimination between
employees which helps them to stay for longer period of time and also maintains coordination. In
order to improve culture of organisation, manager of BBC opted theories of Handy.
Charles Handy's model
Power: In organisation, power remain in hands of higher authorities in company. There are less
people in business who have higher powers such as managers who helps company to accomplish
their goals and objectives (DuBrin, 2013). Higher authorities are responsible for making
decisions at workplace. The manager of BBC also holds power to reach company targets and
desires.

Task culture: This model of Charles Handy's is followed by organisation to solve critical
problems and issues. In this, employees within business enterprise forms teams and
groups to resolves situations together. In BBC, the managers also form teams and groups
so that they can achieve goals with their efforts.
Person culture: In this, employees of company feels their own importance within
organisation. The workers are more concerned about them instead of organisation goals.
The main motto of this culture is that workers company to office only for money. They
are less attached to organisation and its culture.
Role culture: It is an approach in which every employees is concerned towards their roles and
responsibilities. They put more efforts in accomplishing tasks and projects in time frame (Miner,
2015). In BBC, the employees of company are responsible about their works and assigned tasks.
They perform their activities according to their specialisation, education qualification and
interest to give their best. This helps company to easily reach their goals.
B. Power and political behaviours of managers in BBC
Power is defined as ability or capabilities to so something. Power holds the position of
authorities within organisation which helps them to achieve their goals and perform well. On the
other political factors includes employment laws, discrimination, etc. which affects atmosphere
of company. In BBC, the environment of organisation is also affected by power and political
behaviours of managers. These factors affect the gaols and operations of management. Thus,
there are some power of French and Raven which is considered by BBC.
French and Raven bases of power
Legitimate power: This power is derived from formal authority or position within
organisational hierarchy. In this, the higher authority of company gives commands and
orders which is important for employees to follow. In BBC, the managers of company
also take use of legitimate power which affects employees working in firm.
Coercive power: In this, the higher administration force individual to do something
against their will. The main objective of this power is compliance. In BBC, the manager
of company has power to give orders to its employees. They have an ability to punish and
threaten employees if they do no follow the orders. This also affects organisation culture
of BBC.

Reward power: This is an essential power which is hold by higher authorities of
company. In this, the manager of company motivates and encourages employee to
perform their tasks easily and in allotted time frame. In BBC, the managers of company
give rewards to workers which makes them motivated and complete their tasks in time.
Referent power: This power is hold by leader of company. They have interpersonal
skills, abilities and relationships with employees in organisation. In this, the leader have
full trust upon its employees and managers. This power is also considered by BBC which
helps company to accomplish their goals.
Expert power: Members who have this power are very experts, intelligent and also perform
their activities smoothly (Luthans, Luthans and Luthans,2015). They are expert in making
decision according to requirements. This form is also used by the leader of BBC which is
essential for company to accomplish goals.
Political behaviours of company managers also affect environment and culture of
organisation. Due to this, employees cannot perform their activities well. They have negative
impact on whole operations of organisation. The revenues of BBC are also affected by political
environment and behaviour of managers. They do discrimination between employees by their
gender, religion, caste, etc. The organisation of company is also affected by certain cases such as,
harassment, bullying, etc. which affect worker’s performance. So, to overcome with this fact it is
important for managers to provide equal opportunities and treat all workers equally.
TASK 2
A. Content and process theories of motivation which helps BBC to achieve their goals
Employees efforts is very important for every organisation to achieve goals and objectives.
The manager of company motivates and encourages its employees so that they perform their
task well and effectively. In this regard, manager of BBC also plays a dominant role in
encouraging employees of business enterprise. So, company considers process and content
theory of motivation of individuals to run their organisation smoothly and successfully.
Content theory of motivation
It refers to theory which explains why human needs and demands changes from time-to-
time. This theory is given by David McClelland and Abraham Maslow. This theory helps
company to motivates employees in order to accomplish their goals and objectives. In

addition to this, some theories are considered by BBC to encourage workers which are as
follows:
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Psychological needs: These needs include basis necessities of human such as, sir,
water, nourishment, sleep, etc. These all are psychological needs which are required
by an individual to sustain their lives. It is important for BBC manager to fulfil
psychological needs of their consumer’s so that they can perform their activities
well.
Social needs: These needs include interaction with other people such as need for friends,
belongings, receive love, etc. These are also important for an individual to perform well in their
tasks and achieve goals (Fisher and To, 2012). The managers of BBC should also focus on social
needs of their employees.
Safety needs: It refers to security and protection of individuals form all aspects. This
need is one of an important need which should be considered by all companies. The
BBC managers should focus on safety of their workers which includes safety of their
jobs, areas in which they are living, medical insurance and financial reserves, etc.
This helps them to retain in company for longer period of time and do efforts to
achieve their goals.
Esteem needs: After fulfil all above needs, esteem needs are also important to be
satisfy by company. These needs are divided into two groups and they are internal
and external esteem needs. Internal includes, self-respect and achievements. While
on the other hand, External needs includes attention, recognition, reputation, etc.
These needs should also be fulfilling by BBC in order to retain employees and
achieve long term goals.
Self-actualisation needs: These involves, justice, trust, wisdom, etc. These are also
important for company to be gratified so that more employees stay in company for
long term. The mangers of BBC should also make trust on their employees so that
they feel good while working in company.
So, these all are needs given by Maslow’s which helps company to motivate and
encourage workers of company towards achievement of goals and objectives.

Process theory of motivation
In order to achieve and accomplish goals the managers of BBC also consider process
theory of motivation of employees within organisation. This theory is divided into
three factors which are as evaluated below:
The Expectancy theory: This theory is given or developed by Victor Vroom which explains
motivation which company makes to maximizes pleasure and minimises pain (Avey, Palanski
and Walumbwa, 2011). This theory explains that company should motivate its employees to
work in teams or act together in groups to resolve issues of specific tasks. This also helps BBC
staff members to be motivated towards achievement.
The Equity theory: This theory is given by John Stacey Adams in 1962. In this,
author explains that employees are motivated only fairly treatment. Company should
treat their workers fairly at their workplace. It is also important for BBC managers
treat employees in equitably and properly. This helps them to make more efforts and
improve their performance to achieve company goals and objectives.
B. Improved level of motivation within the BBC help to achieve its organisational goals
In every organisation, it is important for company to increase the level of motivation so that they
can achieve their goals effectively and efficiently. Motivation is one of an important aspect for
business enterprise to stay competitive and at top in market place (Lunenburg, 2011). But this
will be successful only when company gives encouragement to workers to reach their targets.
This also helps company in their production process and satisfy needs of consumers. Along with
this, firm can also increase their sales turnover and profitability margins. In context of BBC,
mangers can motivate their employees through feedbacks, incentives and promotion channels.
Positive feedbacks help company to retain their workers for long time and promotions helps
business enterprise to make their workers more effective towards their work. In addition to this,
organisation culture also motivates members of company. Positive environment of company
makes positive and helpful behaviour of employees. On the other hand, negative atmosphere of
company leads to negative results and employee will not be able to reach their goals. So, it is
essential for managers and leaders of BBC to encourage their workers with aim to accomplish
company goals and objectives in allotted time frame.

A. Different types of teams within BBC and their importance
Teams refers to group of individuals perform tasks and projects commonly to achieve corporate
goals. Teams are considered to be an important part in every business enterprise and firms
(Hershcovis, 2011). By efforts of teams or groups, company can easily achieve their goals and
maximises their profitability margins and sales turnover. In BBC, teams also play dominate role
and help company in gaining competitive advantage. There are different types of teams in BBC
which helps company to accomplish their goals which are as evaluated below:
Functional teams: It refers to group of members who perform activities with
functional expertise towards achieving common goals. These teams are also known
as cooperate teams as they work with cooperation. Company managers of BBC
compose these teams to act in several vertical levels of organisational hierarchy and
performs in specific operations.
Problem solving teams: These teams are also created by mangers of BBC so that
they can easily deal with the problems and situations which arises at workplace.
They resolve all issues together with their efforts.
Virtual teams: It refers to group of individuals who perform their function from
different geographical locations. They rely on channel of communications such as
FAX, video and audio conferencing, etc. to share information with each other.
Project teams: These teams are also composed by mangers of BBC to accomplish
organisational goals. Employees of project teams are assigned with specific project to deal with
it and complete within time frame (Malik, 2013).

Storming happen in company when there is conflicts between workers of firm. In this, team’s
members put their efforts to solve conflicts between them.
Norming: After sorting conflicts, in this stage members know each other and
socialise together. They also ask for help and provide positive feedbacks. This helps
them to make strong commitment to team goals.
Performing: This is the final stage in which company members work hard to
achieve their goals. This also helps BBC in reaching their targets in time and makes
an effective team.
TASK 4
A. Suggestions by which team performance and productivity could be improved within BBC
To improve performance and productivity in BBC the leaders of company uses path goal
theory. This theory is given by Robert house in 1974. According to author, path goals
leadership theory is effective for improve the level of performance of team and
productivity.
Path goal theory of leadership
Directive: In this, the leader of BBC gives directions and guide team members to how to
perform task and project. This helps company to make coordination between employees and
improve their performance level (Song and Seomun, 2014).
Supportive: The leader of BBC also supports employees in completion of their
projects. They show some concerns, become friendly and approachable with team
members.
Participative: In this, leaders give opportunities to its followers and other
members of company to participate in decision making process. This also helps
organisation to improve team performance and productivity.
Achievement: According to this stage, the leader of company assigns some
challenging tasks to members to company and expects to give their best in task to

B. Barriers to effective performance within BBC
In BBC, there are barriers which effect performance of staff members within company.
Due to these obstacles, it becomes difficult for BBC manager to achieve goals and
objectives of business enterprise. Some barriers to effective performance are as follows:
Time consuming process: In this, the performance of BBC staff members can be
affected by time consuming process. This process includes, paper based work
which takes and consumes more time and lead to barrier to effective performance
within BBC. Completing paper forms consumers more than sharing through online
sites. This will affect performance of employees within BBC.
Poor communication: This is also an another barrier which effects performance of BBC staff. If
communication skills of manager are poor and not appropriate, then it will cause delays and
cause significant bottlenecks (Hausknecht and Trevor, 2011). So, it is important for managers to
have proper and effective communication skills to improve performance of teams within BBC.
Faulty assumptions: This factor also affects performance of team members within
BBC. If leader of company, make faulty assumptions rather than accurate then
teams within cannot perform their activities properly and will effects their
performance.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded form the above report that organisation culture of company should be
positive which is helpful for employees to perform their tasks easily and effectively. The
political behaviour of managers can affect the whole organisation and its operations. In
addition to this, motivation is an important factor which helps companies to achieve their
objectives in allotted timeframe. Some important teams are also being discussed above in
report for development and growth of company. Lastly, some barriers which effects team
performance within company are also discussed in this project.
