INTRODUCTION
Behavior of an organization encompasses various elements which are demanded for
effective functioning of a business. It covers the power, culture, role and management existing in
the company. It is further necessary or the entities to possess an organizational culture that
motivates employees. This motivation is highly required in effective functioning of the firm
(Carpenter, Berry, and Houston, 2014). The present report will cover all those that impacts upon
an organizational behavior. For this required leadership theories will be analyzed. Further,
significance of working in tem will be explained in this undertaking. Moreover, tactics of
improving performance of teams will be discussed.
The present report is based on the culture of BBC. The selected firm British Broadcasting
Corporation belongs to mass media sector. The entity was established 95 years ago and in
present date it is serving the people worldwide. Thus, in order to manage such a large company,
the power, role, culture, etc. should be effective. However, earlier from the report of Smith it has
been observed that the organizational behavior of the firm is affected due to some reasons. In this
assignment, these issues will be identified.
TASK 1
P1 (a) Using Handy’s cultural typology , identify and discuss the earlier culture of BBC.
As per Handy’s cultural typology, there are basically four types or cultures existing in antithetic
organization. These are role, power, task and person. In role culture, organizations are abided
with strict rules and regulations. All business operations are bases on certain roles and
responsibilities. In context to task culture, teams are formed in companies to address specific
projects. In case of the person culture, all the employees are regarded as significant assets
(Tuckman Forming Stormin Norming Performin model. 2017). Whereas in case of power culture,
the authority of influencing the overall organization is held by only few individuals,
In context to the selected company it has been observed from the reports that earlier the entity
had power culture. The high level authority of the entity used to influence the employees of
various departments. There are few rules and regulations in this culture. The power used of the

employers is the actual decision of the firm. There exist some benefits of implementing power
culture in an organization. However, it should be recognized that for the selected fir, this turned
toxic. It brought various adverse effects on the effectiveness of the working environment (Path-
Goal Theory of Leadership. 2017). The employers had started influencing employees negatively.
Further, negative impacts of this culture were observed in the wages of employees too. There
were many complaints regarding this issue were recorded. This has resulted in lower employee
motivation which is the major reason behind the work ineffectiveness that caused at that period.
P1 (b) Affect of culture, power, behavior in BBC
Earlier, the culture of the selected company was not effective. It has been observed that the lower
level employees were highly affected due to this organizational environment. The major reason
behind this type of business culture is the ineffective strategies and influence of high level
employers (What are the barriers of implementing performance managements?. 2017). In
addition to this it has been found that earlier in 1950s the legislation of the country was not much
effective in context to the employment. Besides this, the culture initially was centered on the
high level authority only. This disengagement of employee in decision-makings and other things
used to de-motivate employees. This impact of this reduced level of motivation is in turn affected
the work quality and performance. There are numerous affects caused due to the culture, power
and behavior. It has been observed form the reports that most of the women working in 1950s
have faced some form of sexual harassment (Pinder, 2014). From this information, it should be
considered that the inappropriate compliance with the laws plays a major role in damaging the
working culture. In addition to this, it has been observed that various complaints were filed
against the high level authorities by the lower level employees. This reflects the negative impacts
of the culture existing in that time. Further, the culture of the entity before was highly male
oriented. Females had received no or less importance in 1950-1960. Besides this significance and
respect, it has been noted that there were also large variations in the wages of males and females.
Moreover, a large number of sexual harassment cases were recorded for women working at that
time. However, it should be recognizing that later after the imposing of sexual harassments act
1975, equal rights acts, etc. this biasness’s were reduced (Miner, 2015).

TASK 2
P2 (a) Content and process theories of motivation.
Motivation in employees plays a crucial role in improving work performance and thus
productivity of an organization. It is required in making workers to stay committed with their job
role. There are different theories of motivation that can be used by the selected firm, BBC in
increasing level of dedication of the people working there. On one hand, concept theories does
emphasize on the reasons for changing human needs frequently (Klotz and Neubaum, 2016). On
the other hand, process theory concentrates on the psychological processes which directly
impacts upon motivation of humans with regards to desires, expectations, etc.
There exist several content theories that can be used by BBC in increasing the motivation of
employees. Some of them are Maslow’s five level needs of hierarchy, Alderfer’s three level
hierarchies, Herzberg’s two major factors called as “hygiene motivators”, etc. However, it should
be noted that implication of these theories in practical life is somehow challenging because
individuals are unique in many ways. Hence, employers are required to be aware of different
needs, desires and goals of employees. In context to process theories, it includes a system of
ideas that states an effective method to change and develop an organization (Wagner III, Jand
Hollenbeck, 2014). They deal with the process of motivation rather than the content or theories.
In these various rewards, accomplishments, etc. are provide to the employees on the basis of
which, workers do farm their opinions. In context to the BBC, process theories s the most
effective method that can be used to understand the process of motivation. Several tools of this
method involve reinforcement and goal setting theories, expectancy and equity theories, ABC
analysis, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards, etc.
P2 (b) Benefits of content and process theories helped in improving team effectiveness.
The content and process theories of motivation mentioned above are very effective. BBC can
make use of these models in establishing goals to direct behavior of employees. These theories
helps in indentifying needs and demands of employees from the job role which in turn develops
an understanding of creative effective strategies to increase effectiveness (DuBrin, 2013). In
addition to this, as per the rewards system of these theories it has been identified that employees
do compare their rewards with the other workers in similar job. This will create a healthy
competition in the working environment. This in turn will help in increasing team effectiveness

of the organization. Besides this, these models will help in understanding behavior of different
individuals working in the company so that effective strategies can be prepared considering them
all.
P2 (c) How improved level of motivation will help the organization in achieving its goals?
Motivated employees are the most fruitful addition to an organization. There are various
ways in which these workers render assistance in achieving organizational goals and objectives.
Motivated employees are way more dedicated and committed to the job as compared to others.
This commitment to work role influence them to deliver their best in their function (Czaplewski,
Key, and Van Scotter, 2014). It should be recognized that each and every employee of an
organization is integral part of the overall effectiveness in the operations performed in the entity.
In addition to this, there are less chances of resignation and termination of motivated employees.
This thing also saves a huge amount of money associated with the recruitment of new people,
their training & development, etc. Dedication of workers will make them put their best in their
work (Bolino, Klotz. and et al 2013). This will thus enhance the quality of the functions
undertaken by them. This increased quality is essential to assure productivity in the business
operations. Further, presence of motivation in employees creates an environment of healthy
competition. This type of business surroundings boost up the effectiveness of the business
operations. Further, motivating employees by using various rewards will create a competition
between employees that will help in achieving organizational goals in promptly manner. These
rewards are also responsible for increasing interest of employees in work. This in turn will boost
the work performance and hence, profitability.

intention of solving various problems that rise in business. The does include working
committee for a specific event that comes together to resolve a particular issue.

the leadership which will be helpful for BBC in making the adequate or efficient performing
team.
Tuckman model:
The theory was presented as to have better understanding in regards with the organizational
behavior and the team development which in turn fruitful for organization in having favorable
team support as well as changes in the behaviors of the leader (Greenberg, and Colquitt, 2013).
Hence, to understand the theory the following key elements of such model are as follows:
Forming: This is the initial stage on which the high dependency of workers is over the
leaders. Hence, it can be said that leaders are responsible to take the initiative as well as they will
develop the vision or mission on which the employees will make their efforts. Thus, there will ne
independent thought or ideas such as the individual though will not make any incurrence in terms
of achieving the organizational objectives Champoux, 2016). However, in terms of BBC it can
be said that the company must have the efficient directors who will make the adequate or
attainable plans for the business.
Storming: The second stage of such model which facilitates the information regarding
the team and the relationship, emotional bonding between them (Tuckman Forming Stormin
Norming Performin mode, 2017). Hence, such kinds of team development will belongs
emotional bonding or the organizational relationship between employees or the leaders which in
turn will be fruitful in executing the work or it will be harmful as it is disgraceful or distracting
the professionals in attaining the aims and objectives of BBC.
Norming: By considering this kind of stage where the organizational decision were made
y having the group discussion as well as agreement and acceptance by all the individuals. Hence,
these kinds of leadership and team development will helps in creating the interest towards the job
or duties of employees as well as create the faith in their mind in regards with BBC’s operational
activities. BBC needs to obtain such techniques in making any efforts for the attainment of the
organizational goals.

Performing: In accordance with this stage here, team is more enthusiastic and has the
strong bonding which in turn reflects the high ambition to fulfill all the major tasks of BBC.
Hence, there will be several loopholes of such team is that there has been many views or ideas as
well as many arguments while performing any tasks. These arguments not only deal between
employees but it will also being faced by leaders.
Jensen’s measures:
However, in accordance with measuring the team efforts or performance, with the help of
Jensen Model or measuring the performance can be helpful for BBC in analyzing the operational
activities and duties performed by the workforce. Hence, such operational will represent the
actual return BBC will have over the amount of investments.
TASK 4
a) Organizational theory that improve team performance of BBC
Path Goal Theory:
In context with making the improvements n the organizational performance there is need
to understand the behavior of leaders, employees and the environmental condition in the firm.
Hence, BBC must focus over understanding the requirement of their workforce as well as make
adequate solutions to cure their obstacles. The key elements of such technique are:
Leader Behavior: to complete the organizational tasks the leader must be supportive with his
workforce as well as have better direction which in turn helps employees in making the adequate
decision making as well as understanding his view or thoughts. BBC must appoint a leader who
should have the participative nature as well as who must be achievement oriented which in turn
helps the individuals to get motivation as well as make the valuable efforts Cortina, 2016.
.
Employee behavior: In order to have the highly efficient performance from employees
these is necessary that they must have favorable skills and adequate qualifications which in turn

make it easier to deliver the leaders thoughts and they will have the resultantly adequate
outcomes (Path-Goal Theory of Leadership, 2017).
Environmental conditions: BBC needs to focus over the internal environment of the
organization such as task structure and the team developments. Hence, these things will be
helpful for the firms in making the adequate decisions in relation with the operational activities.
Effectiveness of leader: To achieve the goals of the organization there is need to have an
effective leader who has favorable leadership quality which in turn helpful in making the
effective business transactions as well as understand the efficiency or requirements if the
workforce. They must motivate workers as well as give effective solutions in terms with
satisfying them (Hogg, and Terry, 2014).
b) Evaluating the main barriers that influence team performance in BBC
In terms of less motivated workforce, which are due to the various barriers which enables
them to have adequate work environments as well as make the efficient efforts in performing any
duties or tasks. Thus, such barriers need to be understood and overcome by BBC in context with
having the adequate work environment (Ashkanasy, Becker, and Waldman, 2014). Hence there
can be various barriers which in turn influence the team development or performance such as:
There will be inappropriate performances acquired by the employees which are due to
poor communication as well as the manners in which leader delivers his thoughts.
If the vision or goals set by owners which are unclear or unattainable then it may become
obstacle in achieving the operational targets (What are the barriers of implementing
performance managements?, 2017).
Lack or knowledge and the poor managerial efforts will effect in inadequate duties or job
performed by the workforce.
CONCLUSION
By considering the study based on the organization behaviors, team development and
efforts which in turn helps the organization in achieving the objectives are the most effective part
of an entity. Hence, the reports shed lights over the internal operations of the business as well as
