Reflection
Introduction
This reflective journal is based on the course Bachelor of Business Information System
(BBIS). In this context, based on (Hickson, 2011), I will provide my self-reflection in relation
to self-awareness, effective professional networks, as well as the role of mentors in networks.
I find reflection as an opportunity for me to think over how my personal experiences along
with observations are having an impact on what I think about things. I believe that this
reflective writing is a tool to know how my thinking affects my career choices and thereby
the progress I make in my chosen career.
Reflection
This reflective writing is useful for me as it will help me to know my level of self-awareness.
In this context, based on (Heyrup & Bente, 2009), I am going to narrate my awareness of the
value of my personal experiences. In this way, this self-awareness will allow me to know
whether such awareness motivates me to make progress into my professional life or holds me
back from making further progress.
Firstly, I am here demonstrating my understanding of how people acquire self-awareness and
hence how it motivates them for future career development. To me, self-awareness is all
about knowing oneself concretely while covering all possible depths. I learned that being
aware or conscious of my own characteristics and real conditions will allow me to be a self-
aware person. Here, my own characteristics and condition mean my strengths, weaknesses,
threats, opportunities, personality, emotions and people’s perceptions towards me. While
learning about self-awareness I also learned about double loop and single-loop learning
theories. It made me realize that self-awareness always allows one to be motivated and
encouraged towards their life and career growth. My learning from the course BBIS course
suggests that when one gets feedback then they should not keep it in their mind but they
should take this as a wakeup call so that further investigations and up-gradation can improve
their personality. Thus, in aforementioned ways this module gave me an exceptional
understanding of concepts like self-awareness. Besides, based on (Durkheim, 2013), I also
observed that self-awareness always motivates and hence encourages people as it wins
people’s trust and thereby strengthen their personality with enriched confidence. Moreover,

post studying this module I can say that self-awareness assists coordination, cooperation and
optimal allocation of diverse resources.
As an application of self-awareness, the life of Mr Warren Buffett can be seen as a great
example (Charlotte, 2014). He is the CEO of the great MNC of US and he has successfully
applied self-awareness in his personal and professional life. In above case, he has used this
concept for adopting great leadership styles as per the situations, being humble and genuine
and most importantly self-reflective. Based on (Businessballs, 2019), I have learned that all
of the people who have applied self-awareness admitted their mistakes, found out why of
them and then corrected them timely.
In addition to that, I have gained knowledge about the principles and practices of building as
well as maintaining effective professional networks. Thus, I am going to reflect upon the role
of great mentors in networks. I realized that creating as well as maintaining effective
professional networks are always provides a boost to professional career of an individual.
While studying in this module, I utilize mentoring practice for improving my knowledge and
skills for future career endeavours. Based on (Brooks & Dunn, 2011), I also have mentor and
hence I know this fact very well that mentor always help you when you stuck in the process
of solving a difficult problem. According to me, mentoring while pursuing a job or studying a
course like BBIS, acts like a 2-way path which always offers huge benefits to mentees and
mentor as well. Being leaner, based on (Banks, 2009), I realized that maintaining professional
networks always helps in elevating the work-quality, enhance productivity and creating a
positive work environ. Apart from this, use of mentors and the benefits of mentoring have
been realized by me as it builds an operational partnership.
Moreover, based on (Hickson, 2011), I would like to reflect on my own professional
development program. It means this module helped me to know what I need to do along with
what I want to pursue increasing my professional development. From the business
communication perspective, I will enrol in different language courses as soon as possible as it
seems the best way to cope up with an intercultural environment while working in an MNC.
Based on future professional requirements, based on (Obrien & Marakas, 2009), I will be
attending workshops to become proficient in important software packages. For example, I
will participate in many security certifications, ethical hacking and risk management courses
offline and online so that I can become a proficient in my field as a certified information
security manager in near future (Obrien & Marakas, 2009). In this way, my reflections on
