INTRODUCTION
Sustainable business management means the decisions which are taken by the business on the
basis of impact of society and taking into consideration all the Corporate Social Responsibility
factors. With the ethics and sustainability companies also tries to maintain the profits and good
revenue so that the business idea can sustain in the market for longer term(Babiak and Kihl,
2018). The perspective of the business is based on the idea that the decisions and the policies will
not be made on earning the profits but it will also be based on how the ideas and the decisions of
the business will affect the environment, people, natural resources and other things. Many small
as well as big organisations are working on developing the ideas and decisions which will be
based on sustainability approach. Luton waste management is located in London and it is
basically a city also which covers the site of Airport, Europe single day carnival is held here and
is the city for administrative purposes. The businesses which are working in the Luton for them
they collect and recycle the waste to provide the neat and clean premises. The Luton only works
for the business waste management and not for the households waste and deals with every kind
of waste which is there in the businesses. The waste in which the company is dealing is day to
day waste, food waste, sanitary and many others. The team of Luton waste management is the
experts which works for the waste collection and ensures that the business does not have to face
the issue with waste. Biffa waste management is the another company which is also working for
the same thing and the headquarter of the company is in High Wycombe, UK. The main
objective of the company is to provide the waste collection to local authority of UK, the
commercial and industrial clients. This company is the UK number 1 waste service provider and
provide the best solution for the companies for the collection and recycling of their waste. The
company is listed in London stock exchange and the company was founded in the year 1912 and
working with the same profile and got the license for picking the waste from the business.
Viridor is the another business for waste management and recycles and collects the waste from
the business on a daily basis(Tyagi, Kumar and Kumar, 2018). The headquarters of the company
is in Somerset, UK and it was founded in the year 1956. This company uses the most unique and
innovative way to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste and take the major responsibility of UK to
work for the sustainability and to empower the society. They are the one who are providing the
ultimate solutions to people as how to develop the Zero waste society and works for the

transformation of the society my changing and transforming the domestic and the commercial
waste and converting it to the most productive and valuable raw material.
MAIN BODY
Sustainable approach to business strategy and management
Sustainable approach in business means the strategies and approach which has to be used by
business in an ethical manner which is to work in an ecological manner and to focus on the
society and environment. This the most important approach which the business has to work on as
this helps in improving the image and goodwill of the company(Høvring, Andersen and Nielsen,
2018). The business of Luton, Biffa and Viridor are similar and they work for removing any type
of waste which is their in the business so as to provide them the clean and hygienic environment.
The sustainable approach helps in making and providing the directions to the business to move
from the unsustainable work to the sustainable. There are different approaches and mechanism
which is mainly focused by these companies and they always tries to maintain it.
 Increased intention for sustainability- For inculcating the things of sustainability it is
important that the business must develop the intentions of using sustainable approach. It
means to develop the importance of sustainability in every dimensions of the business
including the management(Bolgov and et. al., 2018). Luton waste management works for
recycling the waste of the business which has been collected by them and works for the
sustainable and clean environment.
 Recycle- The business must adopt the strategy of doing or making the recycling of the
waste which have been present in the business. Those businesses which are having the
factories it is sure that they must be having the waste in the factory and if they will just
throw the waste then it will increase the cost of production because they have to collect it
again. the process of recycling will make the waste being used which are done by Luton,
Biffa and Viridor on the other hand collects the waste of commercial and domestic.
 Developing ethical standards- It is important for the business if they want to do the
work in ethical ways then for that they have to make an develop the ethical standards for
the success and growth of the business(Richter and Arndt, 2018). This is because ethics
are positive in nature and when the development of ethics are there in the organisation
then business will perform the work of sustainable activities. Biffa and Viridor are

performing the same thing of doing and helping the business so as to fulfil their ethical
standards by providing the clean environment.
 Sustainable objectives- The sustainable objectives of the business means that they are
focusing on the environment and society so that the business does not make any
mistakes. Sustainable objectives mean that how the business can make the development
of the things which will benefit the environment and the society(Chintrakarn and et. al.,
2020). Many big companies and business have made the objectives which focus on such
key factors. The main objective of Luton, Biffa. Viridor is the same as they provide the
collection, special waste services to the business and also for the local use to fulfil the
objectives of the business.
Different approaches to CSR their differences and the success measures of the CSR strategies
Corporate social responsibility is the ethical practice which is used by the companies to work for
the society and the environment. Their main motive is to develop the activities which will be
beneficial for the society and for that Luton, Biffa, and Viridor are working hard to provide the
business and the atmosphere neat and clean.
Approaches of Corporate social responsibility-
There are different approaches which are used by the companies according to the objectives
which the companies have set in the beginning. Luton, Biffa and Viridor are the same companies
with different objectives but the intentions of all the companies are different. Approaches of
Corporate social responsibilities in context with Luton, Biffa and Viridor have been discussed
below-
 Accommodating approach- This approach is used by the companies with the main aim
of working for the society and the environment. This approach mainly signifies the
socially responsible attitude and Luton works in this method. Luton is working with all
the legal requirements and have does not performed any actions which are against the
rules and regulations(Yahya and et. al., 2018). They are not profit motive and follows the
actions which are beneficial for the business and because of which they make the
recycling of the waste which is collected in the business. Luton under this approach
always change the policies depending upon the type of criticism which they might
receive.

 Proactive approach- The proactive is slightly different from the accommodating
approach as they are only focused on giving the best to the society and to the
environment. They are the one who develops the different approached for making the
recycling of the waste which in turn would not cost them much and the work is also
completed on time. Biffa is the company which follows this strategy and does not makes
the consideration of the criticism which the company might receive from the general
public and to the society(Hall, 2019). To work ethically is the main mission and to work
for the benefit of the society is their despite of the work which might not be liked by the
people.
 Defensive approach- The defensive approach is the considered to be not fulfilling the
objective of the Corporate social responsibility as their main aim is just to earn the
profits. But they work in a legal way and perform all the functions and actions in which
they will not be considered as the company which is not working for the society. Such
that they are in a neutral mode which are just functioning for the profit motive which
Viridor makes. Viridor is working for the companies and business in removing the waste
but the work which they are doing is just to work and bring more profits.
Differences of the approaches which are used by the three companies-
The differences of the of the three approaches are the main intention of the three
approaches are to work for the society and for the environmental concerns. Accommodating
approach of the Corporate social responsibility is the one which is working for the benefit of the
society(García-Segura, Penadés-Plà and Yepes, 2018). This approach which is used by the Luton
is the one which is aiming for the societal purpose and not considering the facts of earning the
profits. They works according to the legal purpose which the other approaches are also doing
and working harder so that they does not come on the point in the society. The main risky part of
this approach is that they are not focusing on the profits and considering that fact they might gets
the closure in the business and does not survive for long.
Proactive approach is only focused on the ethic terms and conditions and have involves
the ethical standard in the company also so that the management of the company does not
follows the other functions and standards. They are the one which is only focused on the
Corporate social responsibility factors and because of which they are focusing ion that criteria.
Their main objective is to just work for the society which the Biffa was doing and working.

Proactive is the approach which is working to remove the damages while the other two
accommodating and defensive are neutral in nature.
Defensive is the other approach which basically works for the socially responsible factors
while they are also working for the profits. This approach does not takes into account the
responsibility and does not even fights for it(Sass and et. al., 2020). While the proactive
approach is the one who takes the responsibility which Biffa was taking to work hard in
recycling the waste which was coming out from the business. While Viridor was making the
recycling of the waste both for the commercial purpose and also for the domestic purpose. The
business is only working to recycle the waste for both purpose but their main objective is to earn
the profits. The defensive approach is the different one as this doe not considers the objective of
working for the society but it might depend upon the business which the Viridor is working on.
The objective of Viridor is to make the recycling of the waste but with that they also wants to
earn the profits.
Measuring success with the use of Corporate social responsibility strategy-
The success of the business can be made by checking the performance and then making the
evaluation on that basis. The success can be measured by following the below mentioned steps-
 Benchmark the top performance- The top performance of the business can be
evaluated on the basis of the other companies performance(Cruz, Gaspar and de Brito,
2019). Luton, Biffa and Viridor are the similar companies who can focus on the
performance by making the evaluation of one another. On the basis of the evaluation the
business can make a change as to what are the things have to change and the policies in
which they just have to make the modifications. Setting the performance with the other
business helps in making the improvements.
 Refining of tools- The refinement in the tools is very important as it helps in providing
the right tools which needs to be worked in the right ways and directions. The tools
which are used by the business to measure the success impacts the calculation in a higher
way. Viridor makes the checking on customers, their clients so as to know that whether
they are happy with the performance(Lipina, Belyaevskaya-Plotnik and Sorokina, 2018).
It is the important part in the measurement of the corporate social responsibility factors.
 Using key performance indicators(KPI)- This tool is helpful in making the
measurement in the success which is considered to be the most important factor. Luton,

Biffa and Viridor takes the use of this tool so that their performance can be measured in
accordance with the success of the Corporate social responsibility. Biffa makes the use of
this tool as they are fully into the use of the CSR approach so they want to make the use
of this tool to make the evaluation of the performance(Guay and Waaub, 2019).
 Setting clear outcome- The most important factor which needs to be looked upon is to
set the outcome and when the main consideration is on the Corporate social responsibility
then the outcomes needs to be done on the basis of complete diligent research. The
corporate social responsibility is the main task which the business are using including the
Luton, Biffa and Viridor.
CONCLUSION
From the above it can be concluded that sustainable approach in the business is very important
because it tells about the objective of the business and also helps in improving the brand image
and reputation of the company. The sustainable approach is the business focus on the sustainable
planning and also on the corporate social responsibility which is also an important factor focused
by every company. The productivity of the business also increases and the companies also saves
the cost which focus on the sustainability approach as they saves the cost in the packaging and
also the recycling cost is reduced. Strategic planning on the other hand is considered to be very
important because of the strategy which the business prepares in advance and the strategic
planning helps in providing the directions as to which path the business has to adopt.

INTRODUCTION
Skills development is helpful for the individual to develop the personality and increase the ability
for career perspective. Skill development is continuous and it also enhances the behaviour of the
individual who is learning and developing the skills(Zatevakhina,Dedyukhina and
Klioutchnikov, 2019). The development of skills is helpful to the individual in its financial
growth and with this it develops the employment opportunity.
Communication- Communication was always my strength and I am good in making
conversation with other people. Both my verbal and written communication is good as I have
participated in many things which has ultimately helped me in developing this skill of mine. My

habit of reading and writing about any topic helped me in the development of my communication
skill. In the earlier phase I was not good in communicating with people because I was unaware
about how to frame sentences and what words needs to added while having an effective
communication. But reading and writing about new things have worked great for me and this
will be helpful in my career also(Rutkauskas and et. al., 2019). This is because for any job the
first phase which needs to be passed is the interview in which your communication skills and
personality is judged and nothing else. Communication is considered to be the most important
skill because in the school also one has to make communication with other to learn about new
things. I can talk effectively and can influence the other people with my words and sentences
which I frame.
Numeracy- Numeracy skill is the one which is helpful to solve the problems related with the
numbers and this skill is helpful for making the correct interpretation because the words is
changing and has been using different technology for which the numeracy skills becomes very
important. For my career it is very important because in every recruitment stage the numeracy
skills are checked. In the jobs also at some point of time it becomes very important to make the
interpretation of the mathematical data and at the other side my logical thinking is also not best
which is required in every day life(Grosse, M. 2020). For these skills I am very weak and
working hard to develop and increase the knowledge in these subjects which will be helpful to
me for the present time and also in the future.
ICT (Information communication technology)- It is the process of learning the knowledge
about the technology which at present time have become very important. In this skill I am very
weak because it might be considered that my interest in this subject is not much because of
which I was not able to develop this skill. My knowledge in regard with the technology, related
with the computer is weak and I know that for my career this skill is very important as all of the
things are done with the help of other software and with the use of computers. The web related
technology is also the other factor which I have to develop.
Problem solving- Problem solving is the methodology which requires knowledge in the field of
having good logic and imagination which can be helpful in solving the problems. In this skill I
am very good and I know that how to solve and provide effective solutions so that the other
person can provide the best solution(Mehta and Chahal, 2018). This skill is very important
because in everyday life also there are many things in which I face difficulties. Not just in the

daily life it is also very important in the career and jobs because there are many issues which are
faced by me and in the job there will be many in context with the work or some projects and in
that case I would be having enough knowledge to come out of that thing and found the best
solution. But for problem solving I would be having enough knowledge so that I can found the
best way and this at present time had helped me in my academics and I known that this will also
help me in my career.
Working with others- Working with others is basically to work in a team and that too in
collaboration which helps in sharing of ideas and knowledge(Oberländer and et. al., 2018). This
skill of mine is great because I believe that to work with others only increase the knowledge and
information which might at a time I might not be having but working in collaboration can
provide me the same. In the job also the teams are distributed which work for the same project
and in this every person have to share the information with one other so for this my
communication skill will be helpful not just this but collaboration and coordination is also very
important.
CONCLUSION
From the above reflective report it can be concluded that development of skills is very important
because it increases the opportunity of the individual to make growth and with that it also
enhances the personality. It helps in the personal growth and the confidence of the individual is
also increased as they know that their have developed the capability to compete with other
people.
