Positive aspects of using a cellphone in the classroom
Introduction- In this age of information, cell phones are a must have as it brings the whole
world under the 6-inch screen, and it’s used in the classroom can be super beneficial for students.
Though cellphone was introduced first as a business tool and its usage was very limited, but in
today’s life, using a cellphone has become very common, and even children can operate a
cellphone with ease. And considering its uses in studies, it can help a student more effectively to
prepare their tasks, and on another hand, it is time-saving too. Cell phones should be used
constructively in the classroom, as an audience response system, to gather necessary information,
or as an emergency tool to communicate and many more ways.
It is a good option to use Cell phones in the classroom as an audience response system.
According to research performed recently at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, 92% of students
admitted that they find it easier to use a cellphone to enhance their studies and access to
information. Almost 95% of students told that using a cellphone, they can communicate faster
with their teachers and classmates. Quoting one student’s comment about mobile
technology-“helps research and allows for quick and easy feedback from supervisors”
(Adeboye). By this, it evident that the tasks teachers will give can be collected seamlessly, and
students also can submit their question and doubts using a cellphone while the whole process
will be digitally documented. So, the use of cellphone in the classroom as an audience response
system will help students to do their task more efficiently.

As nowadays, cell phones come with the latest technology of internet connection, so students
can use it as a tool to gather necessary information and can store them digitally. According to
one comparative study conducted across two schools in England in 2012, where one school
permitted the students to use cellphones, and other does not. The study shows that 43% of
students from the school where cellphones are banned still using it to get help and to gather
information for their studies, whereas 74% of students in the school where cellphone are
allowed, use it for learning (Russell). With internet connectivity, students can get the use of
learning apps and tools from which they can prepare their tasks, conduct subjective research.
Besides, it helps students to grow skills like time management, organising things etc. In this way,
using a cellphone in the classroom, a student can have good control over their studies.
Students can communicate with their parents or family members or their friends, in case of
any help or any emergency and vice-versa. Suppose Johan came to the school but forgot to bring
his notebook where he did his home task, or the parents of Maria want to communicate here as
there is an emergency at home- in these situations cellphones are helpful and make the whole
communication process easier.
Conclusion: Therefore, concluding, using a cellphone in the classroom can be a blessing in
disguise to the students. It can reduce the hassle of carrying bunches of books and notebooks and
hence, makes the study more fun and easy.
