INTRODUCTION
Assignments are the task that are given by teacher to their students that are to be
completed out of the class timings. It may include online submissions, quizzes, graded
discussions etc. These are very important as it helps to improve skills of the students such as
analytical skills, writing skills etc (Marx, Wilson and Swiontkowski, 2015). The Essay will
outline the objectives of doing an assignment, reasons due to which lecturers provide assignment
to students, benefits of submitting assignment and importance of submitting it on time.
MAIN BODY
There are various reasons behind doing an assignment. One of the main reason behind
completing assignment is that it helps to improve learning capabilities of the students. The more
students use their brain, the more it will develop. In my view, it is a proven scientific fact behind
providing creative and involving assignments in the study at higher education. Another reason
due to which lecturer provide assignments to students is that it helps to improve learning and
practise habits of the learners.
Teachers often provide assignments consist of writing, reading and problem solving
which are to be completed after class that is generally they have to complete the assignments at
home. The main purpose is to reinforce what was taught by faculty in high education institutions.
Sometimes, the objective of teacher behind providing assignments is to assist students in
collecting extra information beyond what was taught in the class (Harackiewicz, Smith, and
Priniski, 2016). In my opinion, another major aim due to which lecturers give assignments to
students is that to help learners to express their own views, ideas and understanding in more
creative and effective manner.
There are various benefits of submitting assignment to the lecturer. Firstly, it helps to
create awareness and knowledge of students regarding technical topics that are difficult to
understand in theory. It also helps to improve cognitive skills of the learner. Assignments also
help students to improve writing skills because for completing the assignment, student have to
present their ideas in a legible manner. Through assignments, I get an opportunity to perform
research on particular topics that are included in the assignment (Pereira, Flores and Niklasson,
2016). Further, it also helps to improve critical thinking ability, analytical skills of the students
etc.

Assignment should be submitted by students on time because it was given for a reason
and it shows respect for lecturer who has provided the assignment.
CONCLUSION
The Essay has outlined that assignments are given by faculties due to various
reasons. It helps to improve various types of skills of the students such as analytical, cognitive,
writing and research skills etc. It has been concluded that, one of the major reason due to which
lecturer provide assignment is to help students to express own ideas, views etc. Further, it has
provided opportunity to improve the level of performance in the class.
