ACADEMIC PROJECTS
While studying Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering in September 2006; I designed and developed a
manually operated paper recycling machine. The aim of the project was to help in the conservation of the
environment while improving efficiency. The machine would be used to help in the conversion of waste
paper into more useful products economically. The aim of the designing was also to reduce the cost of
acquiring automated paper recycling machines that are complex and require elaborate skills to operate.
Further, as an undergraduate in January 2017, I designed a hydraulic bearing removing machine. The new
design was aimed at alleviating the need for hammering associated with high human effort demand,
damage to the high precision surfaces of the bearing and failure to remove the bearing. The hydraulic
bearing remover reduced chances of damage to the surface of the bearing as well as increasing the safety
of the process.
In February 2008, during the masters in Engineering Management, I undertook to determine the
measurement of the quantity of waste Biomass of wheat, Canola, Maize, Barley and Soya bean in Canada.
Large scale bioenergy production requires adequate biomass. In that spirit accurate measurement for the
quantity of biomass for the selected plants would help in making strategic decisions about desired crop
production to sustain the bioenergy production industry. I had an idea about conserving the environment
to promote the use of green energy as a way of combating global warming effects.
Masters in Mechanical Engineering I undertook a project on solid state fermentation. Under this project I
applied and utilized key mechanical engineering aspects to design the fermentation technology useful for
the production of microbial products. This was achievable through the understanding of mathematical
modeling techniques and design of bioreactors.
ACTIVITES
Event Management: Participated as an event manager during the State University’s Technical Festivals in 2016. I
had to mobilize for participants and necessary resources for the University event. At first, I imagined it would be a
difficult task, but with the team work and management skills I successfully managed the event.
Voluntary Engagements: Volunteered in National Service Scheme (NSS) and some other NGO’s, I am a firm believer
in service to the community and improving the lives of people. Most NGOs and the National Service Scheme mostly
act to serve the vulnerable and less fortunate in the society. Volunteering boosted my passion for engineering to
improve the lives of people by engaging with their problems directly.
Workshops and Conferences: I have engaged in many national and international conferences and workshops
especially on the roles of engineering towards improving the lives of people. Through the workshops I have gained
experience about the process of influencing policy towards areas of engineering that are unexploited.
Academic Tour: I have visited the Jeffery Power Plant in Kansas State, USA. During the visit I got to learn and
appreciate the power production dynamics. Further, I appreciated the impact of industries to the environment that
includes lives and health of people. The tour also enabled me to better appreciate and understand the aspects of
quality control and the need for production efficiency as an engineer. I got challenged by the need to innovate and
improve sources of green energy to save mankind.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Internship in Power Plant Engineering and Machine Design for a period of three months. The exposure
gave me an opportunity to appreciate the significance of quality control in Engineering practice, aspects
of safety and design skills. Further, I learnt to appreciate communication and decision making frameworks
within the work environment and adherence to the set protocols and regulations. I believe, the
experience of the three months internship opportunity would be crucial towards working in a future work
environment.
