about Big Data and Cloud computing. There are the latest tools of upcoming technologies and
mostly in demand. They are utilized to improve the functioning and performance of this cited
firm. There are many advantages of these concepts in improving the decision making and
knowledge management. There are so many impacts of Big Data and Cloud computing in the
company to cope with the new trends of the world. In the last section there is a discussion about
collection of data and its processes. There is great importance of how data is being collected and
accessed.

INTRODUCTION
Information management system is a computer based database system containing
financial information in an organised manner (Alter, 2006). It performs programming in such a
way that helps in producing regular reports that determine operations for all types of
management levels in the company. Also, special reports can be formed through this system.
This report is based on Facebook which is an American profit building organisation that is
basically an online social media and networking services. This website is basically launched by
Mark Zuckerberg along with his fellow students and room-mates. Main purpose of this report is
to discuss the information of cloud computing and Big data in today's world. There are various
challenges and benefits of using these in IMS. In this report, it is also explained about the
importance of Big Data in increasing business intelligence and advancing of analytical tools. All
these factors lastly affect decision making and knowledge management for Facebook.
TASK 1
1.1 Cloud Computing and Big Data analysis.
Cloud computing is a type of internet based computing that provides processing of
resources and data by shared computers which connects with other devices according to clients
(Barki and Hartwick, 2011). This is a model which basically provides a platform of ubiquitous
network on demand access for shared pool of configurable resources like the server, networks,
storage devices, applications and so on. This system has facilitated users with so many
opportunities like capability of storing and accessing the data in their own private cloud. There is
also a provision of providing some access mechanism which makes the work more easy and
reliable. There are times when data centres are located at very far off place where user cannot
easily reach then cloud computing is used for sharing of resources to encounter economy of scale
and coherence.
Big Data is basically data sets that are so large in size and complex in nature. Its job is to
do traditional data processing through application software. There can be many challenges while
dealing with this type of data, those include data capturing, storing, analysis of data, search and
sharing then transferring data, visualizing them and updating the information for privacy. This
data also helps in doing some typical analysis like predictive analytics, user behaviour analytics

and many other data analytical strategies which extract value from data given. Such type of data
analysis provide new correlations to find latest business trends, diseases, crime and so on.
1.2 Influence of cloud computing and big data.
In the current scenario, Facebook as being the most reputed and established organisation
across the globe which has focussed on important initiatives of today's generation in fields of
information technology department that is Big Data and Cloud computing (Bashein, Markus and
Riley, 2012). Both of these concepts provide valuable insight that create good performance even
in competitive world and helps in generating revenue.
Big Data: It is currently one of the most emerging technology which is very critically
used every now and then. It is basically a concept which handles the new data sets which are in
bulk amount that are unable to be handled using traditional data methods in this company. They
are also responsible for improving productivity and efficiency with reduced costs of Facebook.
Cloud computing: It provides many servers, storage containers and various networking
resources. It is based on concepts of consolidation and resource storing. This concept seems to be
the perfect vehicle for hosting big data processing. This basically helps Big Data to process the
large amount of voluminous data with high velocity and easy processing. Still working on big
data over the cloud is itself challenging concept. The capability to store large amount of data in
various formats and techniques that too in very large speed can guide business ideas of cited firm
and education system to a large extent.
1.3 Impact of big data in advancement of business intelligence and tools.
In this digital age, Facebook is an organisation which generates massive amount of data
on a continuous basis (Dhillon and Backhouse, 2006). There is process of transforming data into
meaningful and useful insights for regular operations for carrying out future plans. In this form
the stakeholders get benefited from the external and internal data driven decisions which
basically depend on real life information system. Management of large data volume can be only
done through Big Data concepts which helps the organisation to integrate, rationalize, normalize,
analyse, store and access data very easily and in an organised manner. The latest process used by
this firm to perform all these tasks is to integrate all the capabilities into one complete single
solution that delivers data management and advancement in analytical tools.
The use of Big Data helps in improving the analytical tools like earlier traditional tools
worked on reports based on historical data whereas today with the help of Big Data they can

focus on forecasting future events and behaviour. This allow the business of Facebook to
conduct “-if” type of analysis and predict things and effects of future challenges and the changes
that should be potentially made to benefit the company (Gallagher, O'Brien and Marakas, 2006).

Goal of knowledge management with time is always been to integrate the information
from various perspectives and provide them with one insight which is valid for decision making.
Facebook do not make decision on any factor or issue that include revenue, employee salary,
interest rate for commercial roles etc. the basic factor by which a decision is developed and
decided is done by measuring the whole scene. The total scene drives to a conclusion or a
decision (Peterson, 2004).
Knowledge management for this company has increased as till now for company like
Facebook the cost of collection and storing has limited the enterprise to obtain comprehensive
information that was required to create holistic picture. But now with the concept of Big Data
there has been automated collection of digital information and cheap storage of files which
basically removes the barrier of making large data to be accessed. This has made possibility of
data availability in abundance but relational database is still trying to reach its limits and their
ability to make sense with the information. All these concepts that arose due to Big Data has
improved in decision making for Facebook.

3.1 Effects that occur while using Big Data and cloud computing.
In current scenario, big data and cloud computing has crossed barriers of technologies
which could never even imagined. It is responsible for handling huge quantity of data very
quickly and securely. The size of data is drastically increasing day by day by with the help of
cloud computing technology there is much improvement in the fields of variety security and
storing of large amount of data (Premkumar, 2007). Cloud computing is the newest type of
distributed computing system which has so many features. It has many merits like handling large
amount of data in cloud. It provides a workflow system which access data very easily and
perform applications over it.

Health facilities and various other services require continuous and systematic innovations
basically required for balancing cost factors, efficiency, times constraints and also provide high
quality facility. Cloud computing has mostly affected the health care services. There are lot of
benefits in health care research departments due to this concept as it has changed the face of
information technology (Robey, 2011).
3.2 Methods of data collection and storage in the organisation.
A well planned and designed data collection process has a significant impact on quality
of the information and making use of that data for later use. That is why best methodology of
data collection should be used in Facebook for better processing of files and statistics. For
storing of data first of all there is large chunk of space is required. Once it is achieved then it
needs to ensure that there should be proper protection of data and its privacy and some kind of
confidentiality. Some methods used data collection process include:
Registration: This process includes entering of the details of the person and it is stored
for later use in storage files. Licencing is also one of method of registering a person’s detail to a
particular entity (Sprague Jr and McNurlin, 2011).
Questionnaires: These are those types of forms which are completed and returned by
respondents. This is an inexpensive method which is useful for solving any problem arising to
clients or customers.

influence of these concepts. It has helped the company to grow large and bring latest
