The article which appeared on the Global News’ online portal, ‘Quebec government
‘happy’ after Supreme Court declines to hear Bill 21 challenge, premier says.’ about the
decline from the Canadian Supreme Court to hear the challenge on the controversial Bill 21
of Quebec, which was implemented a year back (Laframboise, 2020). The reason why the
article stood out among the various news among the ongoing pandemic around the globe is
the fact that the state of Quebec, though under the Liberal government of Trudeau runs under
the coalition government. The article shows the influence of the promise, which was made by
the Francois Legault during his 2018 election campaign, which won him the seat in Quebec.
The reason behind the choice was the understanding of the power visible at the topmost
executive of law in society and how it works and how it is manipulated under the term of
social equality. The article shows the win of the coalition government, which will further lead
to the restriction and ignorance towards social acceptance in society.
Response to Question 2
The Canadian Party which falls in line with the view of the article, as well as that of
the subject of Bill 21, is the Liberal Party of Canada under Trudeau’s leadership. The stance
of the libertines could be seen as being against the Bill as it was the Liberal government back
in the day that implemented the course in the high school level to facilitate the understanding
towards others to make people aware of others which will further lead to the growth of
empathy in them (Bilodeau, et al., 2018). The Liberal Party and its standing leader heading
the government for more than five years now has been an avid supporter of multiculturism
and has supported all the cultural groups living in Canada. It was his acceptance and respect
towards other cultures among other achievements of his that made him one of the most loved
politicians in the world.

Response to Question 3
The impact of the implementation of Bill21 has been seen as detrimental to the
standing society in the sense that it has resulted in the loss of sectors and fields where
individuals have given up their jobs of teaching, a practitioner of law such as police-officer or
judge rather than changing or giving up the religious symbols that they wore on them daily.
Most of these individuals have transferred themselves out of state and is serving in a new
place which reflects the loss of Quebecer who supports the Bill in the fact that they loss
skilled individuals (Zine, Chakroun & Abbas, 2019). If I were to be responsible and had the
right, I would ban the Bill and reverse all the job opportunities which have been denied
because of individual’s religious and cultural preference which is legally wrong to deny
under a democratic form of government.
Response to Question 4
Bill 21 and its notion was propagated under the laicity of the state of Quebec, which
implies that the state of Quebec represents secularism and view all its citizen under the same
image irrespective of their religion. The whole issue is built around the central concept of
democracy as value for as its central tenet the Bill propose to ensure the equality of freedom
towards religion and while in democracy as a process each citizen has the right to follow their
religion, the Bill stands against it. The declaration of the ban on wearing religious symbols
within any public sector shows the inclination of the government to curb the religious
freedom of its citizen under the pretext that the state aims to display its laity (McKercher,
2018). The political ploy of laicity of the state has been played against the very concept it
favors and has been turned volatile with the interpretation that wearing religious symbols
attracts and influence impressionable and young people towards religion and culture.

Response to Question 5
The protest takes the violent form when the voice of dissent is tried to be suppressed,
so violent protest can be counted under the expression of democracy in which the citizen
loses their patience and are unable to show their dissent through non-violence medium any
longer. It has been observed that violent outbreaks are most of the time sudden, but they
neither shocking nor surprising because the government elected by the people fails to assess
the demands as well as their displeasure (Lord, 2020). Protests have been observed to be
effective and contributing to the working of democracy as it shows the government where it
goes wrong as well as draw the line of limitation which would not be accepted by the society.
It has been effective in several cases, and it is also present in various forms such as the
expression of the displeasure of Trudeau when he lost in many states he won in the last
election.

The impact of media and the influence of which it is capable of comes full circle
when it comes to politics and its coverage by media. The extent of the reach of media
coverage now does not know any bound with the presence of online pages of every major as
well as minor media houses. However, due to the growing independence of society on the,
they have been as the mediating agent between capitalists trying to make it work in politics to
fulfil their own needs (Froc, 2019). They have also been seen as the major contributor to
inequality and the creation of trend in the way they can erect and destroy the image of an
individual or an organization in front of society. The coverage of media also relies heavily on
the acceptance of society. It reflects the societal pressure and approach towards a topic
because they adhere to it on account of being accepted in the market.

The presence of social science in every individuals’ life gives an idea of how one can
approach life and helps to understand its working in society. As a student, I can see the
appeal of social sciences and its understanding as it provides me with the perspective to see
how political views are propagated by manipulating the social issues. The value of social
sciences can be measured with an individual’s ability to understand whether a political
approach or a public servant and his works is in favor of the society as a collective entity or
not (Bilodeau, et al., 2018). The formation of the concept of democracy and the blatant
misuse of the term secularism under the pretext of guarding the state against its violation
shows how social sciences leads how one can differentiate between words and actions.
