Athlone Institute: BIM, Health, Safety, Sustainability

This thesis, submitted in fulfillment of a BSc in Environmental Health and Safety Management, examines Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its impact on health, safety, and sustainability within the construction industry. The research explores the principles of BIM, its implementation in government strategies, and its benefits in reducing accidents and improving safety protocols. The thesis delves into the various dimensions of BIM, including 3D modeling, 4D scheduling, 5D cost analysis, and 7D sustainability, along with case studies demonstrating real-world applications. It also investigates the history of BIM, its standards, and the opportunities it presents for the future of construction, particularly in Ireland, where the government is promoting its use. The project highlights the potential of BIM to integrate construction processes, enhance communication, and foster a zero-harm culture, ultimately contributing to a safer and more sustainable construction environment.
