Reflection essay on my motivation to studying human Biology at The University of Sydney
When I was growing up, I was interested in how the human body operates and that is one of the
reasons I chose the nursing-related course. During my learning process, I came to understand
human biology refers to the study of how human organisms relate with other multiple fields
according to Birke, (2017). Some of the areas include anatomy, anthropology, physiology and
nutrition, among others. Studying human biology at Sydney University will shape my career as a
nurse. For example, many of the units that I will complete in the university will rely on human
biology topic, therefore, to achieve success in the upcoming branches of biology. The
achievement will ensure that I have the basics I need to respond to other forthcoming topics. The
other thing that motivates me in studying human biology is that I believe it will answer multiple
questions that I was missing since childhood. For example, human biology will assist me in
understanding the best types of foods I should consume and those that are not appropriate in my
life. With that knowledge from human biology, I will change my lifestyle for a healthy living.
On the other hand, taking this course at The University of Sydney will pave my way to
investigate and innovate many things related to human biology. It is another critical factor that
motivates me to study human biology at this University. During the learning process, I will
understand multiple things. After the study, I expect to do several experiments and learn both
exciting and significant facts that were initially doubting. It will be a considerable mileage in my
career as a biologist since I will be exploring many things about life. Apart from the above items,
the other thing that motivates me to study human biology is the ability to illustrate and prove the
changes that take place in human beings. For instance, during my previous study, I was taught
that apes and human beings have similar characteristics in terms of shape and speech, according
to Knight et al., (2017). However, I have not gotten a chance to prove such scientific facts.

REFLECTION 3
Studying human biology will give me the best opportunity to investigate and prove the
illustrations. Apart from that, there are other several changes in the human body that I have not
understood up to date. For example, infants unexpectedly experience multiple changes in their
physical appearance. They grow taller and change their sleeping patterns. These are some of the
questions that I have, which motivate me to do human biology.
Two qualities and their importance to me in achieving my goal.
The University of Sydney offers nine qualities that are important for every student in achieving
both life and career goals. However, among the nine qualities, one of the qualities that touch my
life is oral and written communication. Communication is important in my life in that I will be
interacting with people through written and verbal communication. However, Sibiya, (2018)
stated it is essential to understand how to pack the information. It will help me build a positive
relationship between other people and me. Apart from that, when working as a nurse one not
only communicate with the colleagues but also the patients. According to Silva et al., (2016), my
ability to present information in a manner that is clear to both nurses and patient will assist me in
achieving job satisfaction. Other people will also be satisfied with the services I deliver.
Communication involves both written and verbal. Having communication skill will assist me in
understanding how to present information in multiple ways that my clients can understand.
The second quality that is important to me is critical thinking and problem-solving. Critical
thinking involves evaluating ideas that one has been presented to make a decision. The skill is
essential to me in that; I will be faced with multiple challenging scenarios, I need critical
thinking and decision making skill to analyze the situation then come up with a definite
conclusion according to Allen et al., (2017). For example, there is the issue of ethics in nursing.
Kamerer & Russ, (2017) stated that when faced with an ethical dilemma, one has to think and

generate a decision that is to the best interest. Besides that, during research in human biology,
multiple scenarios require decision-making skill. When I am equipped with this skill, I will be at
a position to analyze and respond effectively. Another important thing from this skill is that it
will help with the ability to analyze alternatives and make the best move. These are some of the
issues that I had encountered in the past; however, I would like my future career to be effective.
