Introduction
The report is based on research about biometric systems based on Facial Recognition
Technology (FRT). In general, the face is the easiest way to differentiate someone among so
a group of people. In this way, the facial recognition device (FRD) senses people’s faces
without repulsion as it authenticates only by recognizing their faces (Clodfelter, 2010). There
are so many facial recognition technologies that help with easy, fast, as well as intuitive user
authentication while offering diverse possibilities (Soyata et. al., 2012).

In the world of biometric devices, there are various ways to identify an individual by using
information about that individual (Gates, 2011). Usually, facial recognition is executed by
comparing chosen facial features through a given image with real-time faces in a database.
All of the biometric systems rely on particular data about the unique biological traits of a
person. In this context, the facial recognition system refers to a technology that is capable of
verifying or identifying a person with the help of a video frame or a digital image coming
from a video source. In this era, there are so many methods with which facial recognition can
be done (Gates, 2011).

It is worth knowing that, these facial recognition devices use facial recognition technology as
the way of recognizing a human face through technology. In other words, it can be said that
facial recognition technology is a Biometric Artificial Intelligence based application which
can identify a person uniquely through analysing different patterns on the basis of that
person’s facial shape and other textures.
In addition, a facial recognition device or system often uses biometrics for mapping facial
features through an image or video. There are some real-life examples of facial recognition
technology application, as follows:
Global colleges use this technology in the classrooms for attendance
U.S. government uses facial recognition devices at airports as facial recognition
devices can easily monitor people in airports (Freire-Obregón et. al., 2019).
Contemporary businesses are using facial recognition devices at entrances as well as
restricted areas
Retailers use FRDs within their stores as they usually combine facial recognition and
surveillance cameras for further scanning the faces of shoppers (Sae-Bae et. al., 2012)
Today’s airlines use FRDs at departure gates so as to scan people’s face
Recently, churches have started using facial recognition technology to scan
congregations for seeing who is present there which ultimately helps to tailor donation
requests.
In this era, social media websites, for example, Facebook often uses an algorithm for
spotting faces whenever someone uploads a picture to their platform. It is worth
knowing that Facebook can effectively recognize faces with 98% accuracy (Dong et.
al., 2010).
Apart from this, there are some key reasons to be concerned about privacy while using FRDs,

In whole, it has been found that FRT is a type of biometric technology that maps a person’s
facial features mathematically while storing the data as a face print. Based on the above
discussion, it is evident that FRD uses deep learning algorithms. In addition to that, it can be
used for comparing a live captured image or digitally available image to the stored face print
to verify or identify that person’s identity.
