UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE AND ORGANISATIONS
Day 1 Reflection
1. I totally agree with the outcomes of the EQ Assessment quiz. In today’s context
emotional intelligence skill is very necessary for being great and successful leader as
it helps to understand one’s self awareness to control feelings and even manage and
interpret others point of view so as to guide ones behaviour and thinking (Akila &
Thangavel 2013). After taking the assessment my pressure score was high medium
between 32-38 which indicated that I could work well under pressure situations. It is
true about myself as when situations get tough I try to maintain calm and work out on
my own behaviour so that it does not affect others and do not get defensive of
criticism which helps me to handle situations effectively and this assessment result
even explained the same attributes of my personality so I fully agree with its
outcomes.
2. By completing this self-assessment I came to learn some of my known attributes like
my tendency to stay calm under pressure and not get affected by criticism and manage
my feelings to attain goals. Along with these I even learnt about areas where I need to
improve like I need to work upon my capability to handle tough conversations or
feedbacks to look at them as prospects of growth though I may not find them
comfortable. From this self-assessment I learnt that to avoid tough conversations
mainly oppositions my approach should not be too reactive which would help me
perform better under pressure. This new dimension I need to learn so as to control my
behaviour in better way. The assessment even recommended me to constantly learn
about human behaviour, read books or watch lectures or train under coach so as to
keep working and performing better.
3. In this module I have learnt about the significance of emotional intelligence and its
role in shaping the behaviour and thinking of successful leaders. Emotional
intelligence is the capability to control and manage ones own feelings and
accommodate with others feelings and perspectives equally so that the behaviour and
response to situations is effective (Sadri 2012). From understanding of emotional
intelligence concepts I have learnt that it consist of five elements such as self-
awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill and building EI is
highly recommended to monitor and guide ones behaviour. For example

understanding of self-awareness will help me identify my core strengths and
weakness so that I can control my weakness and overcome them with constant
training or learning to become successful in future. This awareness about myself will
even help to boost my confidence and plan ahead to perform better in future by
focusing on abilities effectively. From this module I even got to understand the
usefulness of self-regulation which helps to control the thoughts and react
appropriately which helps to build integrity as well as comfort in tough conversations
or under pressure. This understanding of emotional intelligence will help me work
effectively in team so that my behaviour can be managed with others perspectives
which will help me to collaborate in future thus helping to build trust with my
colleagues and avoid conflicts in working environment. Also low level of politics and
empathy with peers will help me to work productively in future by considering others
opinions and respecting them to avoid misunderstanding.
4. From this self-assessment I got an insight that I need to improve my ability to handle
tough conversations or feedbacks for which I will practice from now to control my
emotions under pressure conditions so that I do not get triggered. I will enrol in
emotional intelligence training program so as to learn various ways to deal under
pressure moments as well as connect with others in deeper level. Along with training I
will also watch online lectures to learn more about various types of conversations and
tactics to build my emotional intelligence level.
