organized efforts that are undertaken by large
groups of people (Taylor 2016).
Social movements are undertaken to achieve a
specific goal, be it is a social goal or a political
one (Taylor 2016).
The purpose of any and every social

Broader issues such as police brutality,
racial inequality and racial profiling are
addressed by Black Lives Matter, as a

VALUE SYSTEM OF BLACK
LIVES MATTER
Black Lives Matter is a social movement that is greatly
inspired by a civil rights movement that took place in
America prior to this one, the Black Power Movement.
Some of the well-known protestors of the Black Lives
Matter movement, are seen to distinguish themselves
clearly from the previous generation of African-
American leadership.
The reason for stepping away from an identification
with the previous leadership lies in the fact that the
present leaders of BLM are averse to a wide range of
middle class traditions like respectability politics,
Democratic Party involvement and church
involvement (Ince et al. 2017).

VALUE SYSTEM OF BLACK
LIVES MATTER
In the most essential sense of the term, Black
Lives Matter is a present day civil rights
leadership and movement that aims to bring
about a reduction in the violence that is levied
against black people in America.
The purpose and scope of the movement is to get
all Americans to recognize the importance and the
value of black lives, to treat black people with the
dignity they are entitled to, and to regard them as
equal partners in the citizenship process, instead
of as people who are unequal, marginalized, not
worthy of mainstream affairs, and consequently of
human rights (Ince et al. 2017).

GLOBALIZATION AND
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Black Lives Matter is a movement that
did not remain restricted to the country
of America for too long.
As such, BLM is a movement that is
global in its scope and purpose, which is
why the tenets of this movement came
to be widely embraced by civil society
actors in other countries of the world,
that are home to a substantive black
population (Hope et al. 2016).

GLOBALIZATION AND
BLACK LIVES MATTER
The impact of Black Lives Matter as a social
movement came to be felt within the first three to
four months of its operations.
One of the most crucial features of this movement
was to draw attention of the American public to the
indiscriminate killing of black people that was taking
place in police custody.
The extra judicial killing of black people by vigilantes
and the police is what the movement is primarily
against, which is why the movement came to be well
accepted not only across the length and breadth of
America, but in other parts of the world as well
(Taylor 2016).
