Skills are the qualities or abilities required in order to perform a specific

activity or job. Although personal skills are the person's quality which helps to interact
positively with others. These skills are not gained from formal studies rather it is naturally
adapted by the person from their surroundings or through some practise (Yossef and
Rakha, 2017). It is important to know the personal skills because it helps in understanding
the knowledge, abilities and skills which helps in future career. The report will include
the concept of personal and professional development along with the values of short-term,
medium-term and long-term goals with respected examples. Further it includes the value
of personal development plan by using an example of identified goals.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personal development is continuous process which helps the individual in improving
skills and capabilities for getting successful in future career. It helps in defining the personal
abilities and skills along with the consideration of life goals. This contributes in both
satisfaction and successful in life. It develops the positive attitude of a person's to accept
challenges in positive manner rather than considering as problem. An individual consist of
negative attitude will feel burden and sophisticated in every challenging situation (Lejeune,
Beausaert and Raemdonck, 2021). It encourages to overview on positive sides of life's.
Personal development is naturally constructed in human's nature and is not gained from any
book's knowledge. Their are certain skills which are already learn by the person either from
surroundings and peoples to whom it regularly interacts. Such as effective communication
skills allows the person to convey the thoughts and ideas with good confidence level.
Whereas, interpersonal skills helps the person to build personal relationships and makes good
impression on others. Problem solving skills helps the person in finding foremost solutions.
And the leadership skills enables to guide and mange the team effectively.
Professional development is a process in which training and learning sessions are
provided to improve individuals knowledge and skills for attainment of organizational goals.
This helps the person to stay updated and flow with current trends in the industry. It main
purpose is to provide professionals with various opportunities to learn and adapt new skills,
knowledge which further helps in their job performance (Sprott, 2019). It opens many new
doors or opportunities for individuals to have great success in professional career. By
providing enough training will develop many peoples to learn and respond right skills in their
job roles which ultimately leads to business growth. There are many professional

development opportunities such as workshops, conferences and various networking events
allow professionals to meet the expectations of the industry. By providing professional
training the individuals gets self-motivated and helps in improving their overall personality.
With the continuation of education and learning programs helps the person to stay updated on
industries trends and technology.
3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
These goals are short duration which needs to achieve in near future. Generally the
time duration of these goals are one day, week or month and is less than 12 months. These
goals bridges the gap between the current situation where the individual stands and future
situation which needs to be achieved for the long-term goals (Roberts and et.al., 2020). It
helps in focusing more on achieving the target and minimizes distractions. This makes the
person to think creative and innovation of new ideas takes place during the work
performance. Short-term goals access with quick feedback which signifies positive or
negative performance. The quick response makes the planning process to have modification
and improvements to achieve the organizational goal. Short-term goals must be specific and
measurable which needs to be achieved shortly. Setting these goals require regular or weekly
planning which makes motivated to achieve the goals and objectives. These goals help in
managing the time according to the priorities of work. Managing time effectively facilitates
the person to work smarter rather than doing harder. These goals give energy and encourages
to achieve the set targeted objective in the future.
By achieving short-term goals boosts the confidence level and makes the momentum
to achieve bigger or long-term goals. Short-term goals makes the individual behavior
disciplined and punctual in the workplace. However, setting short-term goals helps the
persons to achieve the organizational goals with proper planning of activities. The division of
work according to time facilitates the professionals to flow with the recent trends and
activities. Short-term goals helps in proper-utilization of resources with minimum wastage as
these are measurable goals and provides fast feedback of overall performances. These goals
are simple and easy to accomplish and doesn't include long-term commitments. The duration
of goals short which facilitates the person to stay on the track and focused on work action. It
is helpful tool used to track the progress towards the long-term goals. Short-term goals are of

term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Focusing on medium-term goals provides them an assurance of effective long-lasting
future. The medium-term goals are the base for setting up the long-term goals. Mid-term
goals mainly involves the process of making money and the process of focusing on the self-
development. The time-management of these goals is generally six to one year. Some
medium term goals are of 2-5 years. These goals help in giving a new direction to the life.
(Szifris, 2018). Focusing on these objectives enables a person to become more innovative.
There are certain goals which can not be accomplished within a short-period of time but
within that such goals do not take much time in the completion. Those goals have been
described as the medium- term goals. These goals focus on the current aspects that results in
setting future aspects.
With the help of these goals, an individual can set multiple goals and easily can
achieve them. Breaking up big goals into small goals has been considered as the part of this.
The mid-term objectives helps in making aware the person about their future goals. These
goals enforce the people so, they can take their future as a priority. Having a keen focus on
these goals is mandatory as it helps in setting the career and helps in developing the person.
Setting and performing these goals enables a person to form a path towards achieving their
life objectives. These goals are different from person to person but, what makes it common
in, this helps in analysing the needs and wants of the people they are expecting from their
life. The major benefit of the mid-term goal is that, it can be set anytime. (Arandia, Caranto
and Padagas, 2020). These goals are such goals which can occur during any time in the life.
These goals can be made at any point and can achieve by putting a keen focus. For
understanding this with clearance, here are the personal examples of mid-term goals.
Completion of the graduation- This objective enables in taking further career decision
which leads to set a good future.
Becoming HR manager- This goal has been considered as mid-term goals as achieving this
objective results in creating a better future.
Buying a house- It has been considered as the mid-term goal as buying a house leads to
taking a step in the direction of bettering the life.

The long- term goals involves those aims, that a person is planning for achieving in
the future. These goals focus on the future aspects. These involve, family planning, career
planning and the plans after the retirement. The short and medium-term goals are performed
in order to achieve the long -term goals. These objectives involve every single aspect of life,
weather it is finance, education, family, work, or personal relations. Setting long term
objectives from starting ends up becoming much beneficial for the people. The major demand
of this goal is that, it should be specific from the starting. (Ionescu, 2017). The fluctuation
under long term aims creates lots of confusion and reduces the efficiency of an individual in
the achievement of the goal.
These goals are bigger than the short and medium term goals therefore it takes much
time. It requires large amount of dedication and focus. It can become achievable by parting
them into different parts. The process of long-term goal is started from setting up the goal and
then making it specific. Then the long-term goal should be divided into different parts so, it
can become easy to understand. Afterwards, all parts should be performed individually in
order to achieve the main objective. The main factor which require under this is “ do not give
up”. This is a time taking process therefore, it is hard to stick into this. It requires patience
and dedication. The long-term goals are mandatory as these are necessary for shaping the life
of the people. Along with this, it also helps in shaping an individual. (Pickard and et.al.,
2017). The career aspect is completely depends upon this. The stability in terms of finance
and security derives from the process of long-term goals. These objectives give a high
assurance to the people in order to have a long better life as it covers every single aspect. For
understanding this concept, here are the personal examples of long-term objectives.
Financial stability- Securing the funds for the family.
Commitment towards the healthy life style- this is a form of self-development.
Increasing the productivity- This has been done in order to gain the promotion at the
workplace or for becoming an efficient person.
6. Description and discussion of the value of a Personal
Development Plan
The concept of PDP is utilized in order to make plans related to the personal
development of the person. Such as, changes in career, actions required to gain talent and
skills, choosing the education stream, self-improvement. The PDP is the part of the short-
term, medium-term and long-term goals. It helps in establishing and finalizing the aims and
objectives that are needed in order to provide an efficiency in the life. (Varlejs, 2017). These
plan focuses on both the aspects whether it is personal or career related. It enables the people
to look upon their strengths and weakness. Along with this, the plan helps them to improve
their weakness by using their strength. It has been done by setting the goals.
The PDP plays an important role in the life of the people as it guides them to have a
better career option. The people can learn something new and innovative while making their
career. These plan keeps people positive during the process of achieving the goals. It helps in
making the person more dedicated towards their objectives. (Aliaga-Herchel and Aliaga
Robles, 2019). The people with proper PDP has been proven much effective as compare to
those who are not following the concept of PDP. This clears the confusion of the people and
enables them to have a decision regarding “what they want from life and how will they
achieve it”. The personal development plan boost the confidence level of the people so, the
people can present themselves in efficient manner.

The PDP is created by measuring the rate of the success a person desires. Then, the
ways under through which the success can achieve should be analysed. And then the ways
has to parted in different parts. Such as short-term, medium-term and long-term goals.
Afterwards, a keen focus is required in performing all these goals. While performing these
goals, the person learns many skills and talents. (Makhmudzhanovna, 2020). And within this
it helps in knowing, the level of confidence a person carries. The process of PDP adds up the
morals in an individual's life by opening the path for self-development.
7.0 Conclusion
From the above report it has been concluded that, the concept of personal and professional
development plays an important role in making the people more efficient and effective. The
development process adds more glory in the life of the people. The report also describes the
concept of short-term, medium-term and long-term goals. Each set of goal plays significant
role in shaping the life of the people. These goals enable the people to experience self-
development and a better life. Apart from this, the report highlights the values of personal
development plan. PDP results in adding of more skills and innovations in the people.
