INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management can be defined as an ability of individual’s to motivate,
influence and monitor others so that they can contribute towards organizational goals (Hewitt
and et.al., 2021). This present study is based on Wilko, British high street retail chain that sells
homewares and household goods. It was founded in the year of 1930 and has headquartered in
the UK. This present study is going to discuss effectiveness of management principles and ways
in which it can make leaders as well as managers able in accomplishing their goals and
improving performance. It will further discuss good practices model along with skills and
competencies that make people professional. It will discuss some skills and competencies that
are required to become an effective leader and manager. Managers play a vital role in improving
overall performance and development of strategic direction as well.

Management principles play a vital role in improving overall performance of companies.
Principles of management needs to be aligned with leadership and management models. Some
principles of management that can make Wilko retailer able in accomplishing organizational
goals include:
Systematic problem solving: As per this principle, employees are encouraged to follow
consistent method for solving problems, using data and statistical tools rather than assumptions.
When employees make decision as per the specific problem solving principle then it makes them
able in increasing productivity and decision-making process (Vlasenko, Evdokimov and
Rodionov, 2020).
Learning from experience: It is other effective management principle according to which it is
believed that by learning from experience, employees can protect themselves from errors.
Experience plays a vital role as leaders can improve strategies and can lead in effective manner.
Experimentation: Experiments are ways to test ideas in small steps. Experiments let companies
test new knowledge. By using new ways, leaders and managers find easier in bringing innovation
and creative ideas within business. It can make them able in taking competitive advantages and
improving overall performance.

Learning from others: As per this management principle, leaders encourage employees for
learning from others. For this purpose, they promote team working. It is believed that when
employees work in a team then they increase their knowledge and learn different ways of
performing functions. It improves their relations, and they are more likely to stay with business
for the long run.
Focus on change: It is leadership and management principle according to which employees are
being encouraged to adapt changes and performing functions accordingly. There are number of
factors that can led changes within business and employees need to consider all those factors
(Aryal and Nathan, 2019). By working as per this principle, managers and leaders can help out
Wilko in accomplishing goals and improving performance.
So, on the basis of above discussed principles of management, it can be said that Wilko can
accomplish its goals and can make its employees productive.
Explores the good practices models
Good practices in leadership and management includes for just knowing about how to delegate
work assignment. Supervisor and manager also demonstrate about the skills to make the use of
people management skills which keep employee engaged with addition to functional expertise on
how they rune with their departments.
Mentor relationship- Wilko company culture includes the positive environment to grow and
good manager and leader will go beyond and above for providing training, opportunities and
support for their workers in showing about strong potential. By adopting the different styles
which keep the best accommodation for the best employees is an excellent instance of good
leadership practices (Martín-de Castro, 2021). In present time, when many employees in
organization are struggling with having effective adoption to remote their work, strong and clear
mentor and also have the support system for employee seems to be essential.
Encourage employee- A good leader and manager practices for their employee when they
advance through having some new challenges and new job. While high turnover of talent
employee on any team leader or organization manager is generally not for something a leader
strives and betterment of the company with talent pool is regarded as succession. This also keep
the employee for working with some effective rewards and make their organization success for
having growth and development and take the market position. It seems to be important for the

Vries, 2021). It means about the professional leaders who might be adopting the changes and
ensure for developing business decision and considering the satisfaction of their employees.

Contingency theory- This argues about the ideal decision or choice which may offer
differ one organization to another. Moreover, about the selection of dependent on various

analysing business situation and then acting with addressing challenges or issues. It could also
help the organization for working with some growth and estimated for developing their acting
accordingly work completion.
Motivation theory- This includes the study about inspiring and drives member of Wilko
organization for working towards their own professional goals. It also keeps support for the
approaches in arguing with employee for performing their job duties and productivity when

This keep increasing company productivity on basis of their appropriate employee for
performing more and increasing their production for performing more efficiently. In having such
things this could keep employee for working with more and keep them engaged with various

Business performance management is metric for determining the overall business

whole department for working with right decision about their company. This provides the
manager, business management and owner teams for creating valuable information on their

management which keep the opportunity for making some necessary changes and have their

assess for working with individual and also play the important role in developing method for
analysing the financial aspects of business but also consider their customer satisfaction and

This is also seems as highly valuable because it could also create the company with
collecting data and bring out some changes for growth and development. Wilko that can make

alternatives might be better approaches because this can be considered with having some
additional management and data team learns about their previous experience.
Stratgies direction in organization which need plan for implementing progress towards its
vision and fulfil its goals. This is also seems to be important and also ensure for owners and
management that can communication with their employee about their work and make sure for
having their effective contribution in achieving business objectives. While in case of innovation
and development towards the better needs and wants of customer, this could be required for

which keep company focused on most strategies as this can be possible while continuing the
growth with both products and services offered to customer and revenue.
Wilko organization can easily make sure for having individual department for working
together towards about achieving the goals. When the management team make the use of
business performance, they keep employee more accountable. Along with this could also result
for manager and supervisor assessing about better employee performance and results for having
employee tend to consider the Wilko organization goals. In having such things this seems to be
important about the business hold the employee accountable and ensure them for working with
some estimated sources (Adomako, Ning and Adu‐Ameyaw, 2021). When the company makes
the use of business performance management, it could keep the assessment for the company
which is being more frequent. Moreover, about the employees are better aware about the
organization methods and what manager expectation of them. This could make the organization
for working with some estimated sources and ensure them for working with effective strategies'
direction. This also seems that management is the process which keep guiding about
development and allocation of effective resources through which attain of organization goals can
be done easily.
It can make the organization for working with resources and evolves to meet needs and

practice and outlining the improvements. In having such things this seems to be important about
