INTRODUCTION
Employability skills are core traits, knowledge and skills that are essential or important
in every job in order to perform task in best possible manner. Employers are always search of
candidate that are highly qualified, talented and determined to work for growth and success of
company. Employability skills or soft skills are important for individuals as it helps it to stay
calm, handle difficult or challenges situation in effective manner for better outcome. The main
aim or focus of creating report is to understand key employability skills that are present in me
and needs to improve so that I can get better professional career in future. The report has make
use of Driscoll –model of reflection for development of key employability skills.
MAIN BODY
There are number of skills and capabilities individuals must have in order to grow and
achieve success in both professional and personal career. Driscoll model have been developed by
Terry Borton in 1970 that include key steps such as what?, So what and now what (Driscoll -
Model of reflection. 2014). So, in order to analysis key skills and capabilities that has been
developed or learned through activities or completing Task 1 Driscoll model is used such as:
Use of Driscoll model in context of written communication skills
Written communication is one of the most essential skills that need to be present in each
and every individual in order to effectively share or exchange its feeling, view, ideas and opinion
to one another. With innovation in technologies, maximum numbers of individuals are making
use of email, Sms or message or internet connection to share or exchange lot of information with
one another. For better written communication, individuals must have good command on
language, words that should be used so that receiver understands it in similar manner. Driscoll
model is used to describe one of skills i.e., written communication that I have learnt while
performing Task 1.
What: It is first stage of Driscoll model that describes situation or reflect on what happened,
observed, situation and circumstances and number of people involved. Like our lecturer has
given a task to make project or complete Task 1 related to the way social media impact
positively and negatively on students in word document. Initially I observed that it is very boring
and easy activity to make point related to impact of social media on students as now – a day,
everyone or most of the people know about impact of social media (MacDermott and Ortiz,

2017). But as soon, I pursue the task I find it is quite interesting activities as I able to gather
much or more detail information about what can be positive and negative impact of social media
on students. So, we have assigned a task to write on impact of social media in presentable format
with appropriate Harvard referencing style.
So What: It is stage of reflection in which individuals analysis what it have learn, feel or share
its respective experienced and the way it have contribute in satisfaction of needs. When I was
given a task to write on impact of social media on word document I found lot of difficulties and
challenges. In starting or initial stage I was quite confident but as soon I start collecting
information and writing it on word document unable to organised main body so that lecture can
easily understand the content. Overall I get to know that I have not good written communication
skills as content was written but not well organised or presentable (Nguyen and Hoan, 2019).
The project helps in meeting my needs as I want to work on my poor written employability skills
in order to get best career opportunities in future career.
Now what: It describe about future outcome or impact of particular experienced of individuals
like things that person have learnt, key areas in which it have planned to work or alter so that
best outcome can be gained. So from the above experienced I have learnt and decided to work
on my written communication skills so that in future I can easily exchanged information with
any trouble or challenges. I need to work on my presentation such as include heading, sub
heading in written communication so that reader can easily understand information in limited
time frame (Mishra and Mishra, 2020). Effective organisations of content make information
more useful for other individuals so from Task 1 I have learnt important of writing and
presentation. At the same time, If in case in future I have been given to write something on
particular topic, I would first segregate content into parts or make heading with proper font size
and colour so that readers can quickly understand and make use as per its requirement.
Use of Driscoll model in context of Critical thinking skills
Critical thinking is another employability skills that can be also known as power of
judgement thus it is a ability of individuals to rationally and clearly think about the way
particular task need to be done. Thus, individuals before coming up to particular judgement
needs to evaluate alternative options thereby select or decide appropriate course of action that
can be taken for benefit of organisation. Critical thinking is also important as individuals is able
to analysis situation, find possible solution or creative ideas, it also enhance its language and

presentation skills (Tyson, 2020). So, critical thinking is also skill that I have learnt in my
previous Task 1 which will be discussed in detailed using Driscoll model of reflection.
What: It is description of one of my experience such as my lecturer has given us a project or
task 1 on positive and negative impact of social media on students as class activity. In the project
we also given guideline to include conclusion that summarise key issue and recommendation or
suggestion that can be used by centre manager to effective manage several task (Permana and
et.al., 2019). So, it is time at which I have to make use of my critical thinking skills in order to
effectively judge and find appropriate course of action that can be taken for attainment of
specific objectives.
What So: I was not able to judge or select best alternative options or unique idea that can be
included in suggestion or conclusion part of task 1. I feel lot of confused and somewhat
challenges to evaluate and analysis situation, its outcome and suggestions. It was the worst
experienced as I was unable to find right suggestion that can be useful or fruitful for centre
manager or University. But as soon, I able to started reading each and every information is able
to evaluate and decide or list number of suggestion that could be used for effective outcome. So,
that experienced have realised me importance of critical thinking in life or the way it can helps
me to find new and different idea that I can use to gain competitive advantages (Sari and et.al.,
2019). For making report I have to include suggestion, so I tried to evaluate various gathered
data and information in order to identify key recommendation or action that can be used by
centre manager or university.
What Now: Feedback of lecture also helped me to identify that I am unable to suggest clear
recommendation that University can make or specific action that could be taken by centre
manager by reading report. So, after the above experienced, I have planned to work on my
critical thinking ability in order to stand out or different from several individuals (Wechsler and
et.al., 2018). I have decided to improve my critical thinking through several ways like reading
books, deeply analysing situation and by finding clear alternative that could be useful for
achieving particular outcome. So, in future if I am given to task to suggest or recommended, then
I will clearly judge or evaluate alternative options and find suitable course of action that is
beneficial.
Therefore, it can be understand from above reflection on critical thinking skills that I
needs to work on it in order to get reputable position in large organisation.

Use of Driscoll model in context of Researching skills
Researching skills is ability to extract or collect, organise and identify accurate and
correct information relevant to particular topic. Now – a days, most of the employers are
searching individuals that have good researching skills so that they can effectively collect and
evaluate information regarding specific topic. Such as researcher skills helps in finding person
about recent trends and taste and preference of people or any other information that is useful for
employer as well as for business (Roberts, 2017). So, the way researching skills have been
developed and learned by me can be understood or explained through Driscoll model of
reflection like:
What: One day our lecture have asked us to make a report or conduct research on most crucial
and recent topic that is social media. As maximum number of people across worldwide are
making use of social sites to have fun, enjoyment or learning new skills, knowledge. So, lecturer
has asked student to search and collect valuable, correct information pertaining to impact of
social media on students. Therefore, it was a stage or experienced where I was able to find why
research skills is important, its uses in both personal and professional career. Lecturer has said to
collect information from reliable source and make use of citation so that other users can easily
trust on it.
What so: It can be stated that I have more interest to research or find new and new information
by making use of secondary sources like books, articles, magazines and internet. I feel happy,
excited and satisfied while searching information related to social media as it contributes in
enhancing my skills and capabilities. The main reason that has differentiate myself from others is
using making use of different sources or method in order to get valuable information for task 1.
At the same times all other student are less interested in researching or gathering new
information so they are not able to put as much efforts as they can. So, my interest and
motivation have contributed in finding useful data pertaining to topic (Guimarães and et.al.,
2019). The thing that mostly I liked while making project on social media is finding key and
interesting facts and figure in context of positive and negative impact of social media on number
of students. It was one of the most interest and new topic that motivate me to gain more unique
and valuable information to make better project than other students.
What Now: I have learnt lot many thing from my above experienced such as I needs to built
capabilities to use keywords that helps in enhancing my researching skills on specific topic

through internet or any other medium. I have also understand form previous experienced that
what are different uses of researcher skills in numerous professional, the way it can be improved
for better future (Kennan, 2016). For making research on social media, I have maximum use of
search engine and internet connection as it is most quickest and easy method to gather lot of
information in limited time frame. I have further decided to do work more on my research skills
so that it can gathered large, valuable information in minimum cost and time. I have also
decided to make use of tool such as CRAAP trap in order to enhance my research or information
gathering skills.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from above analysis that employers is always in search of best
suitable candidate for firm that have capabilities to devote high time, efforts and its knowledge
so that it can gain competitive advantages. Driscoll model of reflection through including several
stages contribute in effectively analysing or understanding skills that are present or have been
developed and learned in activities or Task. I have good research skills but needs to work on my
written communication, presentation and critical analytical skills in order to get numerous
employment opportunities. At last it can be summarised that reflection has helped in improving
my employability skills so that I can achieve greater success in my future career.
