INTRODUCTION
A business can be referred to as economic system where products or services are
exchanged for money. It is basically a occupation where sales and purchase of goods as well as
services are done in order to make profit. The main aim of establishing business is to earn
profit. Business can also be considered to be as an enterprise facilitating trade practices in order
to earn revenue.
The report will have focus on identification of the functional areas in Brooklands
company. It is basically a UK based company which offers accommodation and food services to
customers. Study emphasizes on analysing the significance of communication in context of
leadership and management. It will also highlight the current drivers of globalisation.
TASK
1. Identification of functional areas of Bookland hotel and its hierarchy of management.
Bookland is UK based small medium enterprise in UK. An organisation offers
accommodation and food services to customers. Business entity consists of team of highly
skilled and talented workforce. Brooklands hotel is among the top ten small medium enterprises
in UK. The manager in an enterprise is highly supportive and all the team members are highly
motivated. In context of Bookland hotel, employees has plenty of opportunity to foster their
professional growth. Line manager in an enterprise directly appreciate workers for making their
significant contribution in accomplishment of business objectives (Burke, 2018.). The mission of
an enterprise is to fulfil the expectation of their team member and also to provide quality services
to their customers. Vision of an enterprise is to achieve leading position in an industry.
Management in an enterprise provide equal treatment to business owners, team members,
shareholders and customers. Bookland is among the companies which has high level of
engagement. There are number of organisational structure. The structure of companies basically
dependents of the size as well as nature of business. Different types of organisational structure
are hierarchical structure, matrix structure (Weerakit and Beeton, 2018. ). Line organisational
structure, divisional , network structure, team based organisational structure. In context of
Brook land hotel, an enterprise has functional divisional structure. Bookland firm consists of
few functional division which are mainly responsible for performing the different tasks. In
context of Brookland have only few functional areas these are lobby, meeting room , pool and

dining areas which can be utilised for different purpose. The different types of functional areas
in Brooklands hotels are :
Human resource management : The human resource department in Brookland hotel is mainly
responsible for managing people and other business activities. In addition to this, main duty of
Human resource department in the Bookland hotel is to recruit highly skilled and talented
workforce. They are responsible for developing policies, regulations and for providing training
to workers. Performance management and salary processing is also the core tasks of Human
resource manager.
Marketing: It is the functional division in Brookland which is mainly responsible for
promoting goods or services offered by an organisation. They are mainly responsible for
ensuring that goods are being delivered to customers at right time. It is the duty of marketing
department in Brookland company to collect the information related to the customers needs and
provide the same to an enterprise (Koo, Kim and Kang, 2018.).
Food and beverage service department : The food and service department in Brookland hotel
is mainly responsible for delivery the food services to customers on their desks.
Food production department : It is the functional division in Brookland hotel which is mainly
responsible for preparing the food for guests.
Finance and accounts department : Role of accounts functional division in Brookland hotel
is to prepare the financial report and record the all business transactions on routine basis. It is
the duty of finance department to arrange the funds that are needed in order to fulfil the
requirements of different business operations.
Housekeeping department: It is the functional unit in Brookland hotel whose duty is to
manage the guest rooms and to make sure the cleanliness at public areas.
Front office department: This functional division in Brookland hotel is mainly responsible for
welcoming guest and for providing them with information about the goods or services which
are offered by an organisation.
