Background of the Problem
Janine Allis, an Australian woman without any experience of business opened a juice
bar in 2000 at Adelaide in Australia only with support from her family and unlimited passion.
The main idea behind this was to make living not only healthy but also fun and tasty
(Boostjuice, 2019). The main problem Boost Juice is focusing on right now is replacing the
plastic straws with paper straws and with this process educate the customers to live
sustainably and be environmentally friendly.
Operation Management
The administration of any business organization for creating as much of efficiency as
possible into that organization is known as operation management. The managers of
operations develop, deliver and acquire goods for the clients based on their needs (Slack &
Brandon-Jones, 2018). Boost Juice wants its labor to use paper straws as well along with
producing the services required as efficiently as possible. The company’s team of operations
management has the duty of balancing the revenues with cost for producing paper straws
required for reaching higher profits (Nakamura et al.2015). The operation management of
Boost Juice is not meeting the expected potential for manufacturing or producing enough
number of paper straws to replace the plastic straws. Balancing the cost and revenue required
to produce paper straws in all of the existing outlets is getting really tough as producing paper
straws requires more time and as the sustainable option is time consuming it gets hard to meet
the number of requirements overall. They want to make a difference into the industry
(Kiehtreiber et al, 2018)

Many business organizations have an approach that leds to processing of some
problems regarding the behaviors of system and an analysis, which aims on the constituent
part of system that is system thinking (Mjema, 2018). The management of a system thinking
or analysis of a system thinking is described as an analysis traditional in nature, and through
this boost juice helps developing an understanding for different systems and dividing them to
numerous separate elements. (Mutale et al, 2016). The Boost Juice Company is an Australian
juice company that promotes sustainability and healthy living. They are trying to improve
their packaging by replacing the plastic straws with paper straws to make the production as
sustainable as possible. For this particular purpose, the team of boost juice has undergone a
thorough research on how to develop this aspect with the help of system thinking. The main
aim of their company is to educate the customers to be environment friendly. The company
has analyzed which areas require to change and the process will be undertaken by dividing
those areas into parts undertaken by labors of different department who will work on the
changes the company is making. Marketing department is the key for making this
transformation smoothly (Eilam & Reisfeld, 2017)
CATWOE Model
The main matter of concern for Boost Juice is facing currently is replacing of plastic
straws with paper straws and educating its customers to be environment friendly. CATWOE
stands for Customers, Actors, Transformation process, World view, Owner and
Environmental constraints (Pereira, 2015).
Customers: For any organization, one of the most vital stakeholders are the
customers of that company. They hold the existence of organization because they are
the buyers of the products the company is producing. Looking at that, the problems of

boost juice faced by the customers, problems of the organization are directly related to
the customers. If they are not getting services that has attracted them towards the
brand then all fingers are to be raised at the organization (Indahati, Fitriani &
Munajat, 2017). The store employees of boost juice are its customers too along with
the regular customers are the ones who will be affected by the introduction of this
new change of paper straws. The customers are to make a choice between the types
of straws but it is advised to the store members for recommending the paper one first.
Actors: The different stakeholders of the company are referred as actors. The actors
of boost juice consists of its suppliers, both employees of lower and management
level and the customers. The suppliers who supply raw products that is plastic straws
face problems too when the company is trying to bring a change with paper straws..
(Trongtortam et al, 2018). The members of Boost Juice must educate all the external
and internal people for using the paper straw to make a more sustainable approach to
the environment.
Transformation Process: Any organization wants to adapt some new techniques
for their business. Currently, Boost Juice is changing from providing plastic to paper
straws. Finding the suppliers in Sydney for introducing the straws in Perth, Melbourne
and Brisbane is the main concern. Educating the clients and staff on why to choose
paper straws and the environmental issue should create an impact. Social media and
blogs can be used for this (Sowden, Primgle & Gabora, 2015).
World View: Boost Juice must keep being the favorite juice bar and with the use of
paper straw should create a new trend in Australia. It is actually a change of long term
that is going to affect the customers and the employees as well. Only plastic suppliers
will be affected by this environment consciousness by the company. For the longer
run, the company will solve problem of waste management of Australia too.

packaging. However, the company is conscious of the changes in climate and the
impact it is having on nature. Logistics and finance should be considered to be
cautious of cost done per paper straw. Also, a problem is that paper straws tend to get
soggy and people complained of it but that can be solved with a better quality of
straws that has extra layers and good raw products.
Root Definition
Looking at the problem, after analyzing it the root definition of the problem faced by
Boost Juice can be addressed by educating the customers to make an ideal choice and get
conscious about the environment. The problems are educating the people on why to use paper
straws and how it can add up to contribute less production of waste in Australia (Fountas et
al, 2015).
Recommendations
Replacing the plastic straws with paper straws will help and contribute in
management of Australia wastage and pollution too. The company can improve the services it
already provides with this change. The customers now get better packaging along with the
product. Health and sustainable living goes hand in hand now with Boost Juice. It also affects
thee competitors too that more customers will be drawn towards a better it is providing.

Existing customers are getting educated creating an impact all over the world. Moreover, it is
getting more green customers that affects the competition. This can improve the lives of the
customers because they get to live healthy too. There was a complaint with the sogginess of
straws but the company is resolving that with using raw products of better quality and
thickening the paper straws. This is a long process but constant efforts are being made. It
does not depend on one industry because the raw material suppliers are a part too and they
are working together as a broader team to address this issue. It is making the people more
conscious about sustainability and huge climate impact. Boost Juice is also investing
marketing research to keep the customers happy and introducing incentive for using paper
straws. Obtaining the straw suppliers to continue with the sales of drinks is also helpful.
