1BOTOX THERAPY
The purpose of Botox is mostly popular for cosmetic enhancements such as wrinkle lift,
facial spasms and to diminish facial lines. It is also used for the removal of glabellar lines in
people below the age of 65 years but due to new advances and technical facilities, there is a new
growth in the area of musculoskeletal disabilities for people below 65 years of age. There is a
widespread purpose of the botulinum toxin for several issues for almost every age group. Due to
the skin changes, multiple complications in the health of elderly people and potential risk to side
effects in geriatric patients it is recommended to conduct certain assessments by the medical
professional and nurses.
Injections of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) is the most popular treatment for cosmetic
surgeries and several procedures. After the approval from FDA, Botox therapy became the well-
known treatment for this area of work. Whereas, other cosmetic procedures started becoming
extinct due to the success rate of this pharmacotherapy. BTX-A is a blocking agent used for the
neuromuscular system by producing dose-dependent, transient, focal weakening of the facial
muscles that causes the wrinkling of the skin and forehead during old age (Kumar, 2018). The
people who need this injection is between the age of 40 and 60, who are vulnerable to facial
contractions. Due to several complications in the period of old age such as weaker skin, thin and
elastic skin and gravity induced skin sagging and not muscle contraction, people in old age are
not very approachable to this treatment because it is not effective.
However, other than cosmetic procedures Botox toxin is also used for treating
musculoskeletal pain as it is essential during pain management. Musculoskeletal pain is
recognized as the major complication in geriatric patients and the pain is extremely unbearable,
which needs urgent treatment and interventions (Matak & Lacković, 2014). The injection known
as BoNTA is used for Botox therapy for patients who have neuromuscular, neurodegenerative or

musculoskeletal disorders. A study conducted showed that intra articular injections of botulinum
toxin is utilized for refractory knee joint pain including clinical knee osteoarthritis. Three
randomized control trial and 3 non randomized control trial suggested that a single intra articular
injection is useful for reducing pain and increase the functioning of patients who suffer from
osteoarthritis, knee refractory pain and restless leg syndrome (Moeini-Naghani, Hashemi-
Zonouz, & Jabbari, 2016)
The key elements in the poster is the use of Botox therapy in more complications than
cosmetic procedures. People in old age are friendly to the BoNTA injection, which is beneficial
for various bone pains and disorders. It also helps in increasing the longevity because it helps in
elevating the level of functionality in patients. The topic chosen for this poster is Botox Therapy
due to the misconceptions around this treatment and people need to be aware about the
advantages of such therapy in geriatric patients (Oh & Chung, 2015). Medical professionals and
nurses should be more aware about this plan because they will be the people who will help in
removing the preconceived notions about Botulinum Toxin or Botox Therapy.
