BPM AND IT MANAGEMENT
1. Article to be reviewed:
Business process management and IT management: The missing integration
2. Introduction
Retaining a synergetic relationship is very much significant among the business
processes and the use of emerging IT-based technologies such as Artificial Intelligence [7].
IT-based technologies are very much important to maintain the business strategies, goals and
objectives. Most of the global organizations have an effective BPM-IT plan so that the
inconsistencies in the business are minimized [5]. The accountability issues of the business
occurs primarily due to the overlapping of the Business Process Governance in the IT
decision making procedures.
On the other hand, as stated by Mendling et al. (2018), the incorporation of the BPM-
IT plan in global organization can have a negative impact on the existing business process as
this plan does not support the incorporation of any new IT-based technologies. New business
process are not aligned with a previously accepted BPM-IT plan [8]. Lack of radical
innovation is one of the other limitation associated with the collaboration of BPG and ITG.
3. Outline of the discussion
Business Process Governance (BPG) and Internet Process Governance (ITG) are one
of the keep aspects of corporate governance. Both the tangible and intangible assets of any
global organization can be managed in the first place using corporate governance plans.
Aligning the business processes with the IT systems can provide a huge competitive
advantage to any global organization. The performance of an IT organization can be
enhanced due to IT value delivery which is considered to be one of the foremost facets of
ITG. The IT investments can also be examined using the BPG plans. The article has focussed
primarily on the coordination of the BPM and IT management functions.
However, as specified by Harmon (2019), over-dependency on the IT expert as well
as the subject matter exerts are the prime limitation of the corporate governance plan which
considers both the ITG as well as the BPG.
4. Intention and content of the article
The most significant intention of this article is to identify the effectiveness of the
collaboration procedure of the BPM activities and the IT management which are deployed in

business environments. The content of the articles discussed how collaboration of the BPM
activities and IT management function might have a lasting impact on the organizational
objectives of business organizations. The entire collaboration procedure was provided in this
article using a case study description.
5. Research method used in the selected article
Secondary data collection method is the data collection method which was chosen in
this article. Literature analysis and comparative analysis was conducted based on the data
collected from Web of Science and Scopus. Data analysis was conducted on three stages.
However, qualitative data analysis procedure could have helped to improve the findings of
the paper.
But, according to Change (2016), the incorporation of the primary data collection
procedure could have improved the findings of the paper. Considering the reliability of the
primary data collection procedure it can be said that description from any personal view point
could have enhanced the effectiveness of the findings of this article [3]. Personal interview
from one of the line managers of Gamma Corporation could have been more useful to
understand the complications associated with the collaboration of the BPM and IT
management.
6. Findings of the research
The collaboration of the BPM and the IT management functions are the prime
findings of this article. A detailed case study description is provided in this article which
highlighted that BPG and ITG frameworks are very much useful to enable the collaboration
between IT management functions and BPM. The case study description was conducted on
Gamma which is one of the leading multinational corporation having the experience of
managing business process and a wide range of IT systems. The functional manager of this
corporation uses a well-defined organizational structure [9]. The incorporance of the ERP
system was done in an organized manner using data integration procedure and business
process standardization. A centralized ITG structure was maintained in the business
environment of this corporation which led to the successful enactment of the ERP system [4].
The functional managers of Gamma treated BPM as the holistic approach to ensure the
continuous adaption procedure is not disrupted. The process organization which is maintained
in the Gamma Corporation are project owners, project managers, process consultants and
process networks [2]. The organization of the IS systems are IS board, business process

owner group, business area forum, subject matter experts, IS delivery manager, IS application
consultant [10]. Collaboration between the IS board and the IS management is very much
significant so that the confusions between each of the stakeholders who are involved during
the incorporation of the ERP systems.
However, according to Chang, Srirama, and Buyya (2017), additional investments are
required from the steering committee of global organizations as constant monitoring
procedures are required during the collaboration of the BPM and IT management. The
researcher of tis paper stated that lack of communication is one of the most significant
drawbacks associated with the collaboration of BPM and IT management [1]. The paper was
very much useful to identify that managing with any sort of changes such as the technological
change is one of the foremost disadvantage of BPM activities which are practiced across
various organizations.
7. Issues highlighted by the authors
The prime issues which was highlighted in this article are the complications
associated with the integration of BPM and IT management in terms of dealing with the
changes in the structure of a business. The most significant issue associated with the IT
governance plan is the security issues. There are different categories of employee issues
which are associated with the deployment of both BPG and ITG. The other issue which was
highlighted in this article is the maintenance issues which are associated with the enactment
of ERP systems in leading business organizations such as Gamma Corporation.
However, the limitations of BPG and ITG in terms of the conflict of interest, ethical
violations and oversight issues was not highlighted among the issues which were highlighted
by the authors of this article [6].
8. Discussion of the conclusion of the article
This article has provided an in-depth discussion regarding the integration of the
process governance and IS governance. The collaboration of the integration procedure which
is followed in Gamma is highlighted in this article using a pictorial diagram. The diagram
helped in understand that project managers of the process governance structure is directly
associated with the business area forums and the subject matter expert of the IS governance
structure. The article was very much useful to understand the IS managers and consultants

must be playing a key role during the integration of the process governance and the IS
governance.
The conclusion of this article stated that IT involvement in the BPM activities are
very much required so that IT enabled business value is maintained in business organizations.
Corporate governance process models are also very much required in most of the decision
making procedure which are associated with the incorporation of any sort of IT systems such
as the ERP system.
However, as conversed by Alotaibi and Liu et al. (2017), there are few factors which
might play a huge role during the integration of the process governance and IS governance in
terms of the cost of regulations, illegal financial statements of the IT systems, relationship
between each stakeholders of the business.
9. Relevancy of the article
This article was very much significant to understand the business strategies of the
commercial establishments such as Gamma Corporation must be converted into IT strategy in
order to enhance the decision making procedure of the IT systems. Synchronization of the
BPM and the IT management function is required in both strategic level as well as in
operational level. The articles was very much significant to understand the significance of
planning level of integration, direction of integration and role of IT which are deployed both
in the strategic level as well as the operational level of business organizations.
On the other hand, there are few limitations associated with this article as the case
study which was selected in this article was not very much superlative in order to examine the
issues associated with the collaboration of the IT management and BPM activities. Only the
positive aspects of the collaboration procedure was highlighted in this article [12]. More
established approach was required in order to identify the complications of the BPM and IT
management functions.
10. Conclusion
Involvement of the IT strategies is very much required for each of the BPM activities
in business organizations. Horizontal interactions and connections are required between the
IT management and the BPM in order to align both the operational as well as the strategic
decisions. Value-based delivery can be provided from the global corporations if IT
involvement of the BPM activities is verified successfully by experienced IT planners.

BPM AND IT MANAGEMENT
Business strategies must be created in such a way so that IT strategy can be created from
those strategies. Thus, it can be said that IT strategies must be created in a planner approach
so that it does not have any effect on the existing business process if any sort of changes are
made. Thus, this report was very much useful to understand the significance of the IT
involvement in the BPM activities in any business organization.
