Business Process management is used in the organization to improve its current
business processes. The stages of BPM will be discussed in sync with the largest e-
commerce player Amazon.
Planning & Strategic Alignment
This is the first stage of BPM, where all the documents related to the current products,
services or the practices of the business organization are studied with a view to bring
improvement in its practices. The steps pivotal to the step are; Profile of the
organization, understanding of the primary, secondary and support services,
identification of the key performance indicators and process analysis (Buh, Kovacic &
Indihar Stemberger, 2015).
Amazon in this case, identified the gap in its practise of delivering the product to the
customers. The company wanted to deliver the goods and services to the customers in
the minimum time possible and increase the Customer satisfaction.
Process Analysis
This stage helps in visualizing the current practice in the system, or how things are
being done at present in the organization.
Amazon here realized that it takes products from the sellers, packs them and ships them
to the customers which are a time consuming process.
Process Design
This is the step when the organization has identified the bottlenecks or lacunae in its
current practices and it works in bring the change in its existing process.
The change Amazon brought at this stage is linked with launching Amazon Prime and
opening up of warehouse to stock the products from the sellers.

Process Implementation
This is the actual implementation stage in the BPM cycle, implementation can be done
by the use of software and technologies, and the goals of the organization are put into

Process Monitoring and Refinement
This is a continuous process in the business organization, and helps the organization to
refine the process by bringing changes which are significant to the new process.
