1LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
The paper discusses the case of the Breitt, Starr and Diamond LLC. The paper
analyses the leadership behaviour portrayed by Brad Howser, the general manager of
operations of the company. Along with that, the paper analyses impact of the leadership
behaviour portrayed by Brad on the advertisement agency and at the same time, it evaluates
the effective leadership style that would have suited the company in the best possible way.
Apart from that, the paper includes my own leadership style for evaluation in this case and
focuses on the changes that I will consider for the management.
Effective Leadership Style:
As the general manager is a new post evolved in the organization, the situation inside
the organization will be subjected to a change. Hence in order to manage a change inside the
organization, the best approach that the management can undertake is to introduce a manager
with democratic leadership (McKeown & Carey, 2015). The democratic leadership style will
be helpful in inspiring the employees to exchange their opinions and information among their
colleagues and with the manager. The democratic leadership style of the manger will be
instrumental in integrating the employees of the organizations for a higher growth of the
organization. The management of the change will be significantly easy with the mentioned
form of leadership and at the same time the exchange of the comments regarding the business
operation of the organization will be notably simple (Iqbal, Anwar & Haider, 2015). The
mentioned form of leadership will increase the ease of operating for the employees and will
make them feel involved with the organization.
Leadership Behaviour of Brad Howser:
The leadership style that Brad Howser exhibited was autocratic leadership where Brad
was trying to be the centre of attention of the company (Naile & Selesho, 2014). Brad
Howser was trying to dictate all the business operations through him. The organization was

not able to observe much strictness regarding the operational hours and was seen to have
flexible operational hours. Brad did not like it and wanted each of the members of the
organization to start at 9 a.m. at the morning. On the other hand, the shopping for the
requirements of the employees of the organization for conducting their operations efficiently
was observed to be conducted by the employees earlier. However Brad was not too impressed
with it as he changed it and started to conduct the shopping on their own. His style of
leadership was able to create a sense of fear among the employees of the organization and
that was pretty evident with the generation of the apathy among the employees in exchanging
the work related feedback in the Monday morning sessions (Nanjundeswaraswamy &
Swamy, 2014). The ineffectiveness of the leadership style portrayed by Brad was visible with
job quits of the top sales person and the social media expert of the organization.
Own Leadership Style:
My own leadership style is democratic in nature and I consider it to be effective in
this case as it would have been significant in managing the workforce happily. During the
change inside the organization, the management of the employees becomes the most crucial
factor. Hence the appreciation to the preferences of the employees and the exchange of the
ideas regarding the business operations of the organization was much needed. The mentioned
requirement of effective change management can only be satisfied with the democratic
leadership as it considers everyone to be of the same status. The change in perspective for my
leadership style will be regarding the speed of occurrence of the change. Majority of the
changes introduced by Brad was good for the centralization of operations of the organization.
However, the speed with which, he wanted to implement the change was notably risky for the
organization and I want to reduce the speed of change in my leading of his case.
