INTRODUCTION
Business communication is important for the organisations to develop healthy and productive
working environment. Business communication is the process of sending and receiving the
business information in effective manner at right time and right place (Koporcic and Ivanova-
Gongne, 2020). In the organisations the Covid-19 has caused negative impact on the
interpersonal communication of the employees due to occurrence of some significant barriers. In
order to prevent the spread of the covid-19 the UK government has a taken the measures among
which the organisation where transformed into work from setting. The present report is based on
the Brit- Tech – an UK based IT company has is working in work from setting from nearly two
years. But, now company wants their employees to come office for two days a week but with this
company has been facing some serious barriers in its business communication. The present
report will outline the different theories of organisational communication. Further there is the
evaluation of the barriers of communication which made the employees unwilling to return to the
office. In end the Brit-Tech strategies to overcome the barriers are discussed.
MAIN BODY
General theories of organisational communication
Brit-tech organisation is the wide space IT technology company that has diversified
workforce, roles and operations. In order to operate the company effectively the company must
foster productive and better organisational communication. There are different theories that
organisations utilize for implementation of the effective communication (Kasemsap, 2018). For
the Brit-tech company the different organisational communication theories are used that are
discussed underneath:
Verbal communication theory
The verbal communication is the form of communication in which the exchange of
message is carried in the form of words through word of mouth from one person to another or to
a group. The verbal communication theory is the most common and highly used for of
communication in the organisation where the people communicate with each other through oral
or written communication. In relation to the Brit-tech company the company build their effective
communication by communicating through E-mails, internal texts, letters etc. also there is face
to face conversation among the employees. To foster the effective communication after the work

from home scenario the company should use this theory of communication as this will make the
employees comfortable wot the system again and also there will be avoidance of
miscommunication. The company can gain benefit from this theory by gaining quick feedbacks
from employees through one to one communication (Abdolmaleki, 2020). The advantage of this
theory to Brit-tech is that it provides the clear and compete understanding of the message and
information.
The Grapevine communication theory
The effective communication is vital for the productivity and profitability of the company.
Commonly in an organisation, the message or information travels from top level management to
the lower level management. By implementation of the Grapevine communication theory the
communication is conducted in the Non- hierarchical order. Under this form of communication
theory, the Brit-tech build organisational communication that is transparent and open and
information is mostly travelled in the form of gossip (Tuleja, 2021). Through this form of
communication theory, the Brit-tech will be more comfortable and capable in making their
employees feel communicative and flexible to communicate with others and to form cluster
chain in which the first person will communicate second one and so on. This theory is highly
useful and suitable for the Brit-tech after the work from home setting as this will build flexible
channel of communication for the employees to stay free from formalities to communicate.
Evaluate the barriers of communication
Communication is the easiest form of building relationship within an organisation.
Therefore, organisations pay he attention in fostering the organisational communication to
increase productivity, employee engagement and most importantly to retain the employees (Van
Praet and Van Leuven, 2022). For the organisational communication there are different channels
that the Brit-tech use to develop healthy communication within the workplace. But, after the
company has announced the two days working at office in a week after the work from home the
employees and company has identified some barriers of communication that are evaluated
below:
Physical Barrier: due to the threat of employees, the employees are facing the huge
physical barrier in terms of using the public transport to reach to the office for the working. It is
evaluated that the employees are still not used to in using the public transport for their mode of

convenience which are causing a barrier for their coming office. Due to this Brit-tech is not able
to opt for the face to face time of employees at office for the better communication.
Emotional Barrier: after the convergence of form of working as the work from home due
to the covid-19 the employees are highly happy and comfortable in this working pattern.
Therefore, when the Brit-tech is again calling their employees at office mode of working they are
facing emotional barrier. The employees are preferring to work from home as they believe they
are more productive when they work asper their schedule (Hossain and et. al., 2019). This
emotional barrier is showing resent in their behaviour to join office gain for work rather they
want to continue work from home.
Organisational structure barriers – employees are worried about the lack of ventilation and
social distancing measures at the workplace. Staff are unsure what is expected of them and how
the new return to office will be managed. It is evaluated that in Brit-tech the employees are
facing this huge barrier of communication as the company organisational structure does not meet
the protection and measures of the covid-129. This is the reason for the employees prohibiting to
join offices for the work.
Perceptual barriers – some employees have chosen not to be vaccinated and are worried about
discrimination in the workplace whilst those who have been vaccinated are worried about
interacting with the non-vaccinated workforce. This is the huge perception that the employees
are carrying for not coming back to office as they want to keep themselves safe.
Interpersonal barriers – after a long period in lockdown employees feel they have lost their
interpersonal skills and are nervous about engaging with colleagues. As the employees have not
met each other from nearly two years and has only interacted over the video calls and personal
calls. This is huge barrier for the employees of the Brit-tech as they have lost personal touch and
are hesitating in one to one and face to face communication.
Brit-Tech strategies
Building motivation: The Brit-tech is using strategy of motivation to encourage their employees
to work from office. The company is using rewards, promotions and appraisals as their
motivational tools for employees to come to office in order to achieve all such benefits (Trivedi,
Trivedi and Goswami, 2018). Employees are also motivated with the ease of working from office
such as less working hours, free food and company will also provide mode of transport at their

own expense. All these factors of motivation are highly effective in encouraging the employees
to come to office for work.
Transparency of communication: while working from office the Brit-tech has used strategy of
transparency in their communication to encourage the employees and also to make them
comfortable with the workplace again. To reduce the perpetual barrier, the employees are
provided with full transparency of vaccination of each employees and their daily temperature.
Regular sanitation and full facilities: in order to remove the organisational structure barrier,
the company has adapted the full facilities strategy. This include the employees will have
separate cabin, full ventilation, 50% strength, fully sanitized floor and much more. The
employees are also provided with free testing service, accommodation for the employees coming
from other places, mode of transportation and all the other social distancing measures.
Fun interaction programmes: For the employees the fun interaction programmes are arranged
by the Brit-tech to increase the employee’s engagement with the company. This strategy is
highly effective and has huge potential in increasing the attendance of employees (Visser and
van Scheers, 2018). By this the company will able to remove the emotional barrier of the
communication.
CONCLUSION
From the above information it is concluded that the communication is important for every
organisation to develop a productive and highly engaging working environment. From the above
discussion it has been analysed that after COVID-19 employees of the company are least
interested in coming back to their office campus because they are now comfortable in working
from their homes. It could be seen that with the help of various communication methods
company could convey relevant information to its employees about importance of working from
workplace. It has also been observed from the above report that employees experience barriers
such as physical and emotional which stops them from returning back to their company premises.
It could be evaluated that company has taken several precautionary measures in order to
encourage its workforce to resume their work from office.
