Introduction
The report discusses the Human resource management of British Airways airline industry as the
human resource officer. The report is prepared by the human resource trainee at British Airways
worldwide that is likely to run flights between various tourist destinations. For meeting the
business needs and deliver travel services, it offers severe flights service in the day. The roles
and the responsibilities of British Airways are describe along with the HR plan on the basis of
supply and demand of an airline. The current employment relation in the UK prevailing with the
airline industry has mentioned which also provide the employment legislation which affects the
HRM process of the airline is described. Job description and the person specification of city flyer
captain at British Airways have discussed in the report. The comparison is made on Hotel Hilton
and British Airways for the selection process which helps in analyses differences of the HRM.
The training, development, benefits, and needs are also discussed in this report. The report helps

planning are described briefly in this report.
AC 1.1 Analyse the role and purpose of human resource management in a selected service
industry
HRM (Human resource management) is the most significant field that is to be present in almost
all organization that function is to hire the employees which provide profit to the organization.
Before taking the employee into the organization they have to pass through different test levels
that include a written test, group discussion, interviews and so. Human resource management
provides the benefits to employees like incentives or appraisals which develop the employee
personality. Human resource management in organization plays a centric role in an organization
which is very much efficient for any business strategy. Newly, British Airways have signed the
contract the flight's agreement from Heathrow to the Madeira. For managing the flights and
customer queries the HMO (human resource officer) can be appointed in the organization which
helps in achieving the goals. The role of HMO is to coordinate with the people in an
organization. The departments of the human resource have been communicated with employees
and also provide cultural comfort in the organization (Wright, 2018).
Functions of human resource management are:
Solve customer queries for achieving organizational goals.
Listen and replying to the employees in order to satisfy within the organization
perspective.
Training and development for recruiting employees.
Human resource management binds employees with the organization through severe policies and
processes that provide the development or benefit to the organization as well as employees (Cui,
Khan and Tarba, 2018).

In British Airways the duration of the flights between Heathrow and Madeira is four hours which
is to be provided by the four flights in peak season and in non-peak season three flights are
available. So, HRM has to manage the flight's timings for the employees and also manage the
coordination of the employee with the organization. The two major functions for the
management of British Airways are:
Hard HRM
Soft HRM
Soft HRM treats staffs as the important resource of the organization whereas hard HRM treats
organization staff is just as the single resource of the organization (Reiche, Harzing and Tenzer,
2018).
Secondly, the soft HRM concentrate over the rewards and needs of the employees whereas the
hard HRM focus mainly over the organization requirements (Kasemsap, 2018).
Thirdly, the soft HRM concentrate on giving profits and rewards to the employees whereas in
hard HRM give the little pay to employees which give little empowerment. Hence both the soft
and hard HRM are good at their respective places with the different functionalities. The HRM is
making the laws and policies which has to follow appropriately by the organization (Collings,
Wood and Szamosi, 2018).

Another function of the HRM in British Airways is:
1. Recruitment: The most important aspect of HRM is recruiting new employees in an
organization whose main aim is to recruit employee that fit into the required position. The
things that need to be the focus while recruiting is free positions, skills required in person and
expectation of employee.
2. Training and development: On continuous basis training and the development are required
by the employees for the enhancement of knowledge and skills in them. Training is the most
important aspect for both fresher as well as old employees. The fresher know that which
process is run in an organization and from training the old employee get the skills or
knowledge through it. Human resource in an organization needs to measure employee
performance as well as analyze the skills and knowledge that is needed further (Song, et. al.,
2018).
3. Professional development: In an organization with personal professional development is
also one of the major aspects of the development of the organization in a better way (Talib,
et. al., 2016). This can help the employee to participate in corporal responsibilities, seminars,
and trade show so, they identify the things which are important for the employee in
professional development.
4. Performance appraisal: In the organization, performance is one of the most important
aspects for the employee that works. Through it, the improvement is analyzed that is
required. Through it, the appraisal is also be given on basis of performance.
5. Ensure legal compliance: In an organization the HRM is ensuring that all the policies and
laws that they follow should be legal. The department knows the legal compliances so no
technical issue is faced relating to it (Einarsen, et. al., 2018).

The relation of employees is defined as the indulgent and the co-operation of the industry
