COMMUNITY RESEARCH
Introduction
Bronx is one of the community areas of New York City. This area especially the zip code
10455 comprises of 1600 yards or 0.71 square mile (Unitedstateszipcodes.org, 2020). Based on
the census data it has been seen that the population of the community increased with time and the
current approximate population of the community is 39,665 and the population density is 55,696
per square mile (Unitedstateszipcodes.org, 2020). Hence, it can be stated that the demographic
data regarding the population is highlighting that the population of the area is very much dense in
consideration of the land area of the community. Based on the community data in the following
section community will be assessed.
Discussion
It can be seen that the Bronx community of New York City is a densely populated
community and it has a very small amount of land area. Moreover, the whole community does
not have a water body. The total housing unit of the community is 13,851 and among this
occupied housing unit are 12,880 (Unitedstateszipcodes.org, 2020). On the other hand, the
average housing rent of the community is $318,600 (Unitedstateszipcodes.org, 2020). However,
the average household income of the community is $22,609 (Unitedstateszipcodes.org, 2020).
Based on this data it can be found that the economic structure and the employment in the
community are not in balance. Furthermore, the population has grown from 2000 to 2010 in a
rate of 11.5 per cent and there is a presence of the multiple religion and ethnic cultural people
(Web.archive.org, 2020). Based on these data it can be found that the White Non-Hispanic,

community (Web.archive.org, 2020). It has been seen that the community is a multicultural
community. The community area is comprised of railway station and bus transport along with
the subways for walking. As the land area is small, walking in the neighbourhood is easy.
However, in order to travel to other places of New York City community people have the option
of the train and bus. As per the residents of the neighbourhood or the community it can be found
that the area has scruffy buildings, rental houses, easy parking areas and large roads. There are
areas in the neighbourhood that is under the construction of the new houses and buildings
(Hughes, 2020). According to the response of the people of the community 28 per cent of the
community population is suffering poverty (Hughes, 2020).
It has been seen that the Bronx community also comprises of different open spaces and
also the parks that is 99 per cent of the population has the open access to the parks
(Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). Moreover, the people from the community have
an opportunity of clean streets. 90 per cent of the streets of the community are clean
(Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). Educational qualification of adults of the
community showed the statistical data that is 10.3 per cent of the adults have bachelor degree
(Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). However, limited English proficiency is high
among 30.4 per cent of the adult population (Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). It has
been seen that the community has 19.47 per cent of industrial and manufacturing companies
(Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). Public facilities and institutions are present in
10.48 per cent area of the community. 6.11 per cent of commercial places are present as well
(Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). There are some vacant land is present as well at
least 3 to 4 per cent of the community area (Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). There
are 38 public schools present in Bronx community and 4 public libraries as well (Andrews, &

Saint Hilaire, 2017). A total of 37 hospitals are present in the area and 12 prominent pars are also
found (Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). Hence, it can be stated that the
environmental and health related resources are present in the community area in adequate
amount. However, there is economic imbalance or poverty is found as well. Gustavo Rivera is
the senator of the Bronx district and under his government the district board is responsible for the
development, advocacy and the improvement of the community health and other perspectives
(NY State Senate, 2020). Thus, it can be stated that the community is well resourced and
developed with effective facilities. However, the multicultural and racial profile of the
community people can be marked as the cause of the educational gap as the cultural beliefs are
different and impacting factors in this aspect. Based on the data it can be found that the education
and subsequently the employment factor of the community are affected by the aspect (Futterman
et al., 2016). Hence, the improvement of the educational condition is required with the
consideration of the development of the employment of the people. In this context, it can be
found that the rate of unemployment is high among the community people and the housing rent
is higher than the average income of the people as well. This factor leads to the development of
the negative health condition which highlighted that the lower life expectancy rate. As a result
the population is comprised of 28.4 per cent of people under the age of 18 and only 8.5 per cent
over the age of 65 (Communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov, 2020). Hence, despite of being the
community is filled with health care facility and the educational institutions along with other
government facilities the people are affected with negative social aspects. Hence, the
improvement of the situation is very much required for the community. Moreover, it can be
found that the process of the development or improvement is dependent on the government
developed planning of reformation of the community (Fiori et al., 2019). Thus, it can be stated

COMMUNITY RESEARCH
that the reformation is required with highest priority and should be focused on the improvement
of the health of the community people. In this context, it can also be found that the
environmental situation is better for this population. However, the negative cultural beliefs and
also the improper education is the main factor that affects the mental and physical condition of
these people. The community has several hospitals however, there is no nursing facility found in
the community as well (Laniado et al., 2020). Hence, it can be stated that the health care access
is also lacking the competence of the improving community health and supporting the health
needs of the community people. Thus, it can be stated reformation and the change in the health
care facility and the educational department would be needed with consideration of the effective
policy development. Thus, government should be focused on the improving this situation of the
community (Rodriguez et al., 2017).
Conclusion
Based on the above discussion it can be concluded that the community research of the
Bronx community showed that the community has enough environmental resources to sustain the
health condition. However, the factors of the health of the community have been seen to be
affected by different factors. Thus, the improvement of the condition should be considered by the
government with priority and effective evaluation of the context should be prioritised as well.
Moreover, the context of the improvement should be focused on the effective reformation of the
education and employment aspects of the community population. Furthermore, the financial
context should also be considered for the reformation and the health policy for the people of the
community should be reformed. Other than this the importance should be given to the health care
access development for the multicultural community people.
