perform the task. Your assessor
should observe your conversation face to face.

Role Play Scenario

Relate this scenario to your real work role.

You wish to negotiate an increase in salary.

You need to approach your manager and present your case.

The current economic situation is very difficult, and the company is looking for ways to

reduce costs and so your manager needs to hear very good reasons to grant your request.

Plan your proposal, using the prompts in the following table to focus your ideas.
Why do you think you have a right to approach your boss with the proposal?

I think I have a right to approach my boss because every employee has right to talk to the

boss about any issue or any requirement so that it can get resolved on time and the

employee can give his 100 percent to the organization without compromising on anything.

What organisational protocol will you use to approach your boss?

I will firstly send a meeting invite to my boss by mentioning appropriate subject and block

his/her calendar so that he can have an idea about the discussion. There should be a proper

formal organizational protocol so that everything will be done in a systematic manner.

How can you communicate that you deserve special treatment – over and above your

colleagues – without breaching confidentiality and in an ethical manner?

I Will communicate that I deserve a special treatment by introducing all my achievements

and tasks that I have done in past with efficiency and effectiveness. I will not start bitching

about other employees and instead I would like to introduce my qualities in an ethical way.

What motivations drive your boss – that will influence his/her decision?

I think I will explain every compromise to my boss I have been done to get everything

complete on time and will be doing the same when it comes to work. I think this can easily

influence the decision of the boss because I think he is not aware about the same as he only

looks at the results.

What key points (with examples) will you present in your proposal?
There are many key points that I will present in my proposal like I will explain to my boss that

I am an employee who worked whole nights with full dedication so that there will be nothing

left pending and there are times when I made some mistakes as well but I overcame my

weaknesses in past some years.

What arguments might your boss present against your proposal?

and there cannot be any possibility to increase the salary of any of the employee. Boss can

also explain that if we will increase your salary then we have to answer other employees as

well.

What can you say in response to these arguments?

I will give a response by explaining that I am different from all the other employees and if

company increases my pay then I will be surely contributing in the recovery of the company

with my full dedication and will never back out till everything will get resolved.

What common ground do you and your boss both have, that you can build upon?

I and my boss have certain common grounds like he also works with full dedication without

compromising the quality of work and both of us are always being honest and loyal to the

organization and he knows me that I am a little bit of him.

What compromises would you be prepared to consider giving?

There are some compromises that I can be prepared to consider giving like I can stop taking

unplanned leaves and will increase my working hours and start my involvement in some

other ongoing projects as well by giving extra hours. I will also start taking short breaks for

Assessment Task 2
This task requires you to communicate clearly and lead a meeting effectively.

Read the following
This task is a role-play. Discuss with your assessor the people who will work with you to

perform the task. It will be a meeting, which you lead, with at least 3 people. Your assessor

must observe you conducting the meeting. This may be face to face or via electronic

means.

Role Play Scenario

Relate this task to your own workplace environment or a workplace you are familiar with,

assuming that you manage a department in the workplace. (If this is your actual role, relate

the task to yourself and your team.)

Your team is overworked. Several of them are working very long hours to achieve the

workload on time. They are frustrated and tired. One team member is very frustrated and

thinks he/she is carrying a higher workload and the other team members don’t help. You

have various options to overcome the problem. You could streamline processes and

procedures, introduce new technology or equipment or employ further staff.

You decide to hold a team meeting to discuss the problems and consult them for ideas. At

the same time you need to de-fuse the frustrations and influence the team to work more

closely together and help one another.

Document an agenda for the meeting. This will involve:
Researching the systems and procedures of the team at the selected workplace
Listing options for discussion at the meeting
Convene and conduct the meeting, observed by your assessor.
Note: Meeting participants in this role-play may be colleagues, fellow trainees or

friends/family. You will need to brief them on their roles, the fact that they are frustrated,

tired and overworked and one participant feels they are carrying a heavier workload.

Make notes during the meeting of key points.
Document the minutes of the meeting (this can be an informal format rather than formal
minutes). The minutes need to list the date and time of the meeting, the participants and

the key points discussed. If the participants prefer, they may use a different name to

protect their privacy.

This task is based upon a scenario where you are required to make a presentation to an

audience at an industry seminar or conference. You should base your presentation on your

own industry or enterprise. This will probably involve researching what is acceptable as best

practice within your own industry.

Scenario

You have the opportunity of representing your own company or organisation at a seminar or

conference of the industry group. You need to deliver a 10-minute presentation, followed by

5 minutes of question time to an audience which may be up to 100 people in an auditorium.

The purpose of your presentation is to enhance the profile and reputation of your company,

and place it in the minds of the audience as an industry leader. You need to describe how

your company is an example to others of best practice for the industry.

NOTE: You can invent the actual company you represent. The company will be in your own

area of industry or enterprise and therefore you should be able to research the meaning of

best practice as it applies to the industry. You can also invent your actual position within the

company and any credentials you think you might need in order for the audience to accept

your credibility.

Use the table below to prepare for your presentation
What is the industry/enterprise area?

The industry is Telecom industry and the enterprise is the services used for communication.

It includes prepaid as well as post-paid services. There is a strong competition within the

industry and there is a huge scope of growth as well.

What is your position and what are your credentials that will indicate to the audience that you

are an expert?

My position is an HR executive and I represent my organization in front of many people like I

communicate with external people for different purposes like interview or some marketing

campaign so this is the reason that indicate to the audience that I am an expert.

Describe the company in a way that will impress the audience

Company can impress the audience by making them know their value. This organization is a

customer oriented organization and customer satisfaction matters a lot for the same so it can

start showing this to the customers. It helps in impressing the customer as well as attract

them towards the organization.

Explain the purpose of the presentation – focusing on best practice

The purpose of the presentation is to make the audience know about the company and its

products and services as well. There are many companies offering the same in the market

but I want to make everyone know why our company is different from others.

Identify one key area of best practice that you can focus on for your presentation (e.g.
employee relations, use of technology, customer relations, supply chain influence,

sustainability practices, financial management, safety.)

One key area of best practice that I can focus on my presentation is customer relations. My

Company always tries to provide quality products and services to the customers. We always

take feedback of the customers seriously and make improvements according to the same.

From your research on best practice in the key area you selected, list the key points for your

presentation – focusing on what constitutes best practice.

The four points are-

It is important to make customer happy and satisfied.
Customers contribute in the reputation and branding of the organization.
Customers are the asset for the organization.
If customers are not happy with the services then no marketing strategy will work.
Referring to the key points, identify how you will lead your audience to the conclusion you

require by focusing on the benefits of best practice

I will lead the audience by asking them some question regarding the services and get their

feedback. I will make the audience realise that we will work upon the areas or weaknesses

as per the audience. Making consumer happy automatically increases the sale and market

share so these are the benefits of best practice.

Provide a minimum of one example of how best practice in this area operates in your

company.

In my company, we frequently ask for feedback to customers and request all of them to help

us in improving the services. There is a feedback form that is provided to each customer on

the website as well as application so that they can easily share their views.

Give a short summary of the essential learning outcome that you wished your audience to

reach.

The essential learning outcome I wished to give the audience is that every company works

for the fulfilment of customers’ needs and wants. They always focus on the satisfaction of

customer and give them a very important treatment. If customer is happy with the services

then it becomes so easy for the organization to face competition in the market and it can

achieve their goals and objectives for sure. Customer satisfaction also helps the company in

enhancing the brand image.

Design a Power Point presentation that you can use to support your delivery. Save it
with the filename “TAS/FFV999 – John - BSBLDR503 AT3”. You will need to

submit/email this to your assessor.

Create a Word document with the filename BSBLDR503 Assessment 3.
Change the font to 14 pt and 1.5 line spacing.
Write out your speech in full, and then rehearse it. The speech should be between 8 and
10 minutes in length.

Once you know your speech thoroughly, review the Power Point and see whether it will
be sufficient to prompt you – so that you don’t have to read the speech and can

concentrate on your audience. Modify the Power Point if necessary. Alternatively,

create small cards with the key points that you can refer to while speaking.

Arrange with your assessor to deliver the speech. You must have an audience of at
least 3 people and the speech must be observed by your assessor – either face to face

or you may submit a video in an easily downloadable and NOT TOO BIG file.

Deliver the presentation to your audience. You must answer questions at the end. Your
assessor will complete the following observation form.
