Reasonable Adjustment
Reasonable adjustment is available to all students for assessments and must be requested in writing, using the
Reasonable Adjustment form – this includes extensions which must be requested 1 week prior to the
assessment task due date. Reasonable Adjustment forms are available from your trainer.
On receipt of your completed Reasonable Adjustment form, your trainer/assessor will consider your request
and advise whether it is approved and what action will be taken.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is a formal process that recognises skills developed through previous training, work or life experience,
which match a unit of competency in a training course. If you believe you already have the skills covered in this
unit of competency, discuss this with your trainer, who will provide you with instructions for applying for RPL.
National Recognition / Credit Transfer
Qualifications or statements of attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations are recognised by
the College. Where this unit of competency is equivalent to a unit of competency previously completed with
another provider, credit transfer will be offered and the course length adjusted accordingly. It is the
responsibility of the student to provide the relevant evidence of qualifications or statements of attainment
issued by other Registered Training Organisations, which will be verified by the College prior to credit transfer
being applied.
Support Services
Your trainer/assessor is able to clarify any aspect of an assessment task prior to it being administered. This
may include clarifying: knowledge and skills covered during the training program; the meaning of written
assessment questions; performance standards for practical assessments; and marking criteria.
Once the assessment process has commenced however, the assessor is not able to provide any intervention
or guidance, unless it is to prevent an unsafe act from being performed.
Please ask for help when you need it, as your trainer/assessor may not be aware that you have not understood
aspects of the training program, or are not feeling confident enough to engage in assessment activities.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is using the words or ideas of others and presenting them as your own. Plagiarism is a type of
intellectual theft. It can take many forms, from deliberate cheating to accidentally copying from a source without
acknowledgement. In your assessments you must come up with your own ideas, however, at times you may
need to make reference to work that has been conducted by others. Important points to be aware of:
Know what plagiarism is – refer to http://www.plagiarism.org/ for more information
Reference your work / acknowledge all of your sources
“All of the following are considered plagiarism:
turning in someone else's work as your own
copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether
you give credit or not...”

As a leader of a group, you will sometimes come across difficult group behaviour. Explain two types of difficult
behaviour you might see (or have seen if you have been part of a group before) and how this can occur.
Type 1: Ignorance of Organizational values and Culture: This is a type of difficult group behavior which restricts
the members to adhere with the organizational systems and cultures. This occurs due to negative influence and

CASE STUDY – BELINDA
Belinda is part of your team of salespeople. You work for a company called ABC Educational Sales and you
sell a range of books and educational toys for children. Lately, Belinda appears to be having some personal
problems directly related to her mother. Other members of your team have told you that they have
overheard her having arguments with her mother outside on her mobile phone.
For the past two weeks she has been in a terrible mood. Normally Belinda is a model employee and works
hard. Her work output is of high quality and her clients are very happy dealing with Belinda. But these days she
is grumpy, her paperwork is sloppy, and several clients have complained of her poor attitude. Some team
members have had to pick up some of her appointments and fix her paperwork to get it up to standard. No one
is happy in your team at the moment.
On Tuesday you needed her to finish an inventory of all the products, so you could review it and send off the
order. She did not come through – she was late to work in the morning and took a long lunch break. She left
as soon as her last appointment was finished and did not tell you she hadn’t finished the task you had given
her. You found out because you went to do the fortnightly order and found she had not started the inventory.
You ended up doing the job yourself.

6. How have you arrived at these decisions?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
The process of decision making is very essential in any of the organization. Likely, the same is there in the
ABC Educational Sales in which a girl named Belinda is a part of the salespeople’s group. It was determined
a lot of mistakes were made by the Belinda in the organizational function and as a result, the company has to
face the same. In order to gain the improvement, it was done that a performance4 development plan was
made by the company in order to bring effectiveness and improvement in the functioning of the employees
like that of Belinda. And after having the view of the performance development plans the decisions were
made in the company accordingly.

7. How do you think other team members may react if they feel you have not addressed the situation
with Belinda appropriately?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
_____ The ABC Educational Sales have discussed the complete situation with the members of the group. If
it is felt by the other team members that the company had not dealt with the stations correctly or had not
addressed the same issues to the Belinda, then it is just the foolishness of the team workers. They would be
given the assumption of the situation which might had been faced by the company like that of loss due to the
improper working of the Belinda in the company. Not only this, they would be told that if the situation would
have not determined at time then it would have created a lot of chaos and loss in the company.

8. How can the improvement of Belinda’s performance affect the team’s overall performance?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
If there is determined that after having the implementation of the performance development plan in the
company, certain changes have been determined and also the performance of the Belinda is improved, then
the other team members would not blame the ABC Educational Sales company for the mishaps in the
organization. Along with this, there would be improvement in the work processing in the organization. The
other team members would be positively influenced by the development planning system and would be also
helpful in attaining the goals and targets of the organization.

Now you are prepared for your meeting with Belinda. Role play this with your assessor, then after the meeting
answer the following question:
9. How do you feel you handled the meeting with Belinda? Include in your answer the following points:
If and how you remodelled positive behaviour, actions and attitudes.
How you felt about having to deal with a sensitive situation and if you feel you succeeded.
How Belinda responded and how you responded to her response.
What you would improve on for next time.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
After having the meeting with Belinda, the following important points were determined:
After determining the negative and the poor working of the Belinda, the company had made the
performance development plan which proved very helpful un bringing the positive behaviour and the
better actions and performance I the organization of the Educational sales company.
The situation was really very sensitive as the employee named Belinda is very hard working and also
proved to the beneficial to the company and suddenly everything reversed. I have dealt with the
situation with care. Each and every point of situation was clearly studied by me and accordingly the
performance development plan was made.
Belinda seemed to be the state of depression. It was the major reason which had caused the overall
mishaps and the improper management. She had defined her reasons clearly to me in the meeting
and according the required steps were taken by me in favour of both company as well as the
employee.
For the next time, it is required in the organization by me to have a regular check over the each and
the every important situation at the regular intervals of time. It is all because to avoid such type of
situations for the future. As these all have the negative impact on the work processing.

CASE STUDY – UPGRADE TO NEW IT SYSTEM
You are the manager of a sales department and lead a team of six. Your team is a close-knit group and support
each other with their tasks.
The Board of Management decided two weeks ago to do some IT upgrades. A new system has been put in which
deals with appointment scheduling, all client records as well as client payments, requests and complaints and
general administrative work. The IT infrastructure was updated with the current operating system a week ago.
You have used this software before at a previous job and you haven’t thought twice about the change – in your
mind it is very similar in layout and functionality to the one your team has been using.
Today you return to work after taking three days’ leave. Your inbox is flooded with complaints – from staff, from
clients and from the Board. It appears that the fortnightly performance reports have not been completed and
client records are not able to be accessed. Orders that should have been sent automatically to preferred
suppliers have not been received and clients have been turning up for appointments to find that they have been
double booked.
1. Send out an email to the members of your team (send to your assessor) requesting a meeting tomorrow at 10 am
to address the issues that have come up while you have been away. Request your team members to think about
ways to move ahead with the crisis and let them know you value their input and would like a group brainstorming
session tomorrow with positive suggestions for ways to address the IT issue. Assign your three team members
specific jobs to do before the meeting tomorrow.
2. You have now had your team meeting and your team has come up with some suggestions. Isaac has
gathered all of the training information and found that there are two different options.

Option 1: Three information sessions could be attended by the staff at the IT Company’s premises as they
are holding sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 2 pm – 5:00 pm. The IT Company
suggests that two - three sessions are normally sufficient for most people to understand the new system.
These sessions will cost $50 per employee per session.
Option 2: An IT consultant could come to the store and give training on your system at a cost of $150 for a
call out fee including the first hour, and $75 for each additional hour thereafter.
Belinda has suggested that two go at a time to the group sessions while the other two stay back and man the
floor for customers.
Isaac has also discovered that there are some online YouTube videos that the team could watch with handy
hints and informative info sessions on how to deal with common difficulties when using the new system.
Azad wasn’t too keen on changing to the new system but since then has done some research on it and
discovered that there are many benefits to switching. Time spent on reporting will be minimised as well as
the ease of use when it comes to accessing client records and syncing bank records with the accounting
records.
You know that Isaac has very good IT skills and is probably the best in that area within your team and picks
up on things very quickly.
The busy times in the store are usually after lunch and especially around 3:30 pm, as a lot of parents bring
their children after school to look at the range of toys and books that you supply.
Using the information provided, compose an email to your team informing them of the decisions you have made

Dear Team,
The mail has been drafted in order to inform about the decision undertaken regarding resolving the
issues and problems identified in the new information technology software adopted in the
organization. Owing to the various issues and problems analyzed in the software it was observed
that the staff requires training. Two different training options were identified as below:
1. Attending the training sessions provided by the organization being organized every alternative day.
2. Hiring of an IT consultant providing with required lessons for learning the IT software solution.
These options require additional costs and the timing available are during the peak hours of the
stores.
Thus it has been decided viewing the valuable suggestions and options provided by the team
members to send team members in the lot of 2 individuals for the training sessions being organized
by the IT software organization itself. It has also been decided to gather further information through
YouTube and online videos.
This has been identified as the best possible solution to resolve the problem and attain the required
training saving the costs and valuable office hours on very alterative day.
The decision is open for further discussions. Looking forward for your coordination.
Thanks
