Assignment 1
Part A
Q1. What is Continuous Improvement? Who would be involved in this process and what
would they be doing to enable improvements? Support your answer with examples from
the case.
Continuous improvement refers to the progressing development of the efforts on a product,
facility, or service. This development of the effort can be progressing, spontaneous, or in parts
i.e. ‘incremental’ evolvement over time (Ylänen, 2017). The end result is constantly improved
and evaluated to maintain efficiency, the effectiveness of the product, and flexibility of firm.
CCI steel plate manufacturing mill at Scunthorpe is going to be involved in this process and in
order to enable the improvements, Corus is going to find new ways for it to achieve set
objectives of the mill and optimize maximum from the existing resources. CI is not limited to
quality enhancement. It includes overall development - the business strategy to producers and
suppliers internal bond, anything exercised as CI subjects.
E.g. change in the usability of labor, equipment, techniques, machinery, and cost involves
increasing the efficiency of the business.

Q2. Explain how sustainable practice can help a business to compete.
Sustainability is saving resources for our future generation to have the kind of life people are
living today (Bocken, et. al., 2014). Sustainable practice can help in business to compete in with
depleting resources and facilities that permits and provides space to business to grow. It helps in
brainstorming several ideas and strategies to maintain and carefully intake resources.

Q3. Analyse why LCA is a more accurate type of analysis than just looking at the carbon
footprint of the ‘use phase' of a material.
The carbon footprint of ‘use phase' of material permits the involvement of direct and indirect
greenhouse gases excretion from numerous companies and varied agencies.
The basic difference between mentioned two is that Carbon Footprint only considers accountable
the greenhouse gas discharge of companies while LCA takes all other categories into
consideration, such as human waste, natural waste, depleting resources, land under use,
acidification of air and surrounding, etc (Yang, et. al., 2017). There are more than 15 other
affecting factors LCA taken under consideration whereas Carbon footprint is limited to excretion
greenhouse gas in air and environment. Carbon footprint calculation is quick easy due to the
reason it considers only one factor under study. Whereas in another case, the LCA prefers to not
indulge in hard and fast decisions while aiming to focus on environmental impact and effect due
to a product.
A condition can be taken as an example for better understanding In order to avoid carbon
footprint of any product by some percentage, let's say 20%, the ecotoxicity (bio, chemical, and
moreover physical factors that grave an impact on the ecosystem) of the product increases up to
60%. In order to conclude as the best alternative for the environment, a critical and complete
observation and analysation of affecting categories are our last resort.

initiatives taken by the global industry;
1. Reduction and emission of resources whenever required.
2. Investment in high technology to continue producing low in carbon amount steels.
3. Introduction of new products and services that help in reduction of CO2 throughout the
cycle of life.
4. Entire laborforce is engaged in the project.
5. It is a first global industry to begin working towards sustainable environment practice.

Assessment 2
Introduction
This is the report about the innovation in the product as the product in the early days not
fulfilling the need of the customers which has been discussed with the team. This product
innovation has some issues and some actions have been taken for implementing the time frames.
The product and describe its current role/use, mapping the way product has evolved since
its first invention/innovation as the product is a microprocessor which is the computer
processor which operates the function of the central processing unit of the single integrated
circuit (Sun, et. al., 2015). This is the multipurpose, digital integrated which accepts the binary
data as input, its process according to the instructions which are stored in its memory and give
the results as output.
Establish a need/reason/justification for innovation as the need of innovation in the
microprocessor to make them powerful and capable for executing the complex instructions at the
fast speed as the computers are becoming sophisticated which brings the new puzzling
challenges. Some of the microprocessors are slow in speed which needs to be innovated for
boosting their speed.
Brainstorm the ideas within the team for innovating the microprocessor has been discussed
with the team as it is the small programmable devices which are called transistors. The ideas
have come from the team, as the signal between the transistors is not transferred from the circuit
but by shining the laser between them.
Shortlist at least two separate ideas for trial for increasing the speed of the computers, the first
idea is shining the laser between the transistors and the another is by using the pipelines which
use the number of instructions which are executed in the same time for increasing the speed of
the microprocessor.
11
Document Page
Conduct a cost-benefit analysis for each one of them it has been done for both of the idea, the
technique of using the pipelines for increasing the speed is better which is cheap in cost
(Ferwerda, 2014). It fulfills the demand of the customers of increasing the speed of the
computers, as this technique uses the number of instruction of executive at the same time.
Analyse risks and develop strategies to mitigate the risks, the risk can be the system risk as
the new innovation is done on the microprocessor and it doesn't support in some of the systems
which can affect the company and the amount which has putten on that innovation. The strategy
can be made for reducing the risk is to develop the advanced computers which can access the
high speed of the microprocessor.
Highlight and discuss any sustainability issues as the biggest issue which is faced by the world
is climate crisis and the border issue of the environmental sustainability (Khan, et. al., 2016). It
has the direct negative impact which is their power consumption and the social and the economic
cost which is related to its manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal of the components.
Strategies and resources for implementing the new idea by discussing it with the team within
the organization by taking the feedback and giving the reaction of the feedback which has been
come from the people in the organization. The new technique is according to the customers need
which increase the process speed.
Key action items/tasks and time frames for implementation as the frames of the
implementation are firstly the objectives are defined, the milestones have been scheduled then
the resources are allocated for making the innovation properly. The responsibility to the team has
been designated, different metrics are made for the success of the product and it has been defined
that how the users will adopt the new innovation.
Impact of change and consequences for people within the organization can be of many
reasons such as financial concerns, expanding market, growth and the shift in the business
model. The impact of the change in the employees can bring the mental stress which includes the
injustices and the unfairness, lack of timely communication and fear of the future changes.
A communication plan for communicating new initiatives within the organisation is to
conduct the audit for evaluating the current stands in the terms of communication is performing
