Answer guide: This assessment task is to be typed. Each question has a guide for you to adhere to.
1.1. It is a good practice for organisations to give their employees opportunities to provide ideas to
management and to maximise their own participation and support the development and
growth of the organisation.
a. As a manager, explain how you would be able to contribute to organisational strategies and
improve the efficiency or services of an organisation that you work for. (guide: approximately 150
words)
It is one of the major responsibilities of a manager to contribute to organisational change as well as improve the
efficiency and services of an organisation. The manager is generally assigned to supervise and control
organisational performance through monitoring and guiding his subordinates who are the primary working
employees of the organisation. Since these employees are the highest contributors to the productivity of an
organisation, it is the role of the manager to enhance the performances and increase productivity of the company.
There are different approaches to achieving this goal that are used differently by different managers. Some
managers use tough guidance i.e. employees are strongly rebuked for poor performance and good performances
are generally ignored whereas some managers use much more employee-friendly approach and motivate the
employees on a constant basis. Whatever be the approach, the manager must ensure the organisational
productivity and operations are well aligned with the organisational strategies that are currently under use.
b. Review each of the following headings and explain how each is able to contribute to
organisational development and improvements in efficiency or services for the organisation.

Change
management
Change management is defined as the
process by which some strategic changes
are implemented in the existing strategy or
structure to give it an entire new direction.
Change management is generally
implemented when it is seen that the
current strategic direction is not suitable for
the organisation and a suitable change can
really benefit the company in terms of
business and strategic plan.
Change management plays very
significant role in determining the
success of an organisation in terms of
internal and external operations and
business. Without any change
management, an organisation will
continue to move in a wrong duration
during a hard time and will ultimately
lead to the demise of the company.
However, change management is not an
abrupt process; rather it requires a lot of
planning, analysis and feasibility test
before implementing the same in the
organisation. Changes are generally

implement for a long term effect but
some changes are meant for some short
term impact on the organisation only.
Consultation Consultation is defined as the process by
which a strategic plan for a particular
organisation is developed after consulting
with a specific expert on that field of
strategy. For example, when a company
wants to deploy information technology but
do not have any clear idea about the same,
the project managers consult a specific IT
personnel or group (generally external)
while developing a suitable plan for the
project. The consultant helps to gain some
precise understanding on a particular field
that is mostly an unknown territory for the
organisation. Consultation is highly
recommended when the proposed project is
very critical for the organisation and it does
not have any specific expertise on the
same.
The benefits of consultation are realised
when the organisation does not sufficient
expertise or knowledge in the field of
project that they are interested in
executing. Due to the growing demands
of the modern day market, it is required
for the business organisations to update
themselves such as IT implementation,
CRM implementation, ERP
implementation and others. In most of
the cases, the business management
members do not have sufficient and
precise idea regarding how to implement
these systems within the organisational
strategy. Hence, one or more
consultants are hired who provide in-
depth insight and assist in the
development of a suitable project plan.
Generating ideas
and options
Generating ideas and options is an essential
part of a strategy planning for any
organisation. For this purpose, ideas and
options are generated by multiple personnel
instead of one through various processes
like meeting, survey, interview and others.
Generation of ideas and options for a
particular organisation depends on the
strategic direction as well as management
type in the same. While some organisations
opt for mostly management discretion only,
some other organisations emphasise
strongly on the ideas and options generated
by both management team members and
the other employees.
The main benefit of generating ideas and
options from different people is that a
variety of different opinions are
generated. As a result, the company can
explore new directions and dimensions
that were previously not thought of. If
the generation of ideas is limited to only
one or two personnel, the viewpoint on a
particular matter is limited and also
there are not much options for
alternative ideas that might be more
beneficial for the organisation than the
existing one.
1.2. Conduct a research of different theories for organisational behaviour and dynamics and list
them below. Then using the space below, select 2 from your research and discuss two (2)
theories of organisational behaviour and dynamics which are relevant to planning and
implementing organisational development and improvements. (guide: minimum of 100 words for each
theory)
Research of different
theories
Organisational behaviour is defined as the overall output of an organisation based
on behaviour of the employees within its internal operational settings. Various
theories related to organisational behaviour mainly focuses on the behaviour
shown by the employees within the internal settings of the organisation and also
the impact of the behaviour on the overall performance and output of the
company. Some of the common theories on organisational behaviour include
bureaucracy, institutional theory, systems theory and others. However, for this
particular assignment, only two theories namely bureaucracy and neoclassical
theory have been discussed.
Theory 1 explanation Bureaucracy – Bureaucracy theory describes the organisational behaviour that is
directed by set of specific rules and standards (especially legal). In this type of
organisational behaviour, the theory states that the employees of the organisation

need to follow the standard and legal framework of behaviour that are being
instructed by the company. According to this theory, this approach of
organisational behaviour provides a very professional and standardised approach
that is expected from a business organisation. While this is widely accepted theory
in many organisations, some organisations provide flexibility in behavioural
requirements by deviating from the bureaucracy theory guidelines and this
approach does not require any specific framework or standard.
Theory 2 explanation NeoClassical Theory – Most of the organisations that do not follow bureaucracy
theory generally follow the neoclassical theory. The neoclassical theory is also
referred to as the human relations approach and emphasises on the personal
requirements and behavioural pattern of an individual rather than a specific
behavioural policy or framework. This particular theory allows different behavioural
strategies within one organisation depending on the person to be interacted with.
In other words, this theory focuses on a much more flexible and interactive
approach with the employees. However, due to the additional flexibility, the
behaviour often does not remain professional and technical and hence, many
organisations do not prefer this approach.
1.3. As a manager, when developing and improving an organisation and its practices and
operations, you must ensure that the organisation is compliant with relevant laws and
legislations. Read the following Case Study. Ensure that the legislations you will be researching
are relevant to the Case Study.
Case Study 1 – “Tasty Products”
Read the case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting
to complete the question. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification about the case
study.
Case Study – Tasty Products
Roman Solomon is a manager at “Tasty Products PTY LTD” (Tasty Products). His responsibilities include
the management of a small project team who look after various projects for Tasty Products that result
in implementing new processes ensuring that Tasty Products is continuously improving its services and
staff work more effectively.
Last week Roman was invited to a meeting by the Director, Bill Compton, and Tasty Product’s Financial
Controller, Tomas Trumper. Bill wants to implement improvements into the organisation. He is
particularly keen to implement more environmental sustainable efficiency into the Tasty Products.
The meeting held discussions about the new Central Coast Council’s Environmental Sustainable
Solutions Project, which the Director, Bill Compton attended. Bill learnt that the Council has recently
approved a new environmental initiative project for Central Coast businesses in the aim to:
minimising the ecological footprint for the Central Coast area;
providing more work for local businesses;
improving the local economy.
Central Coast businesses who wish to participate must develop a good business case about their
environmentally sustainable project and present it to the Central Coast Council’s Environmental
Manager, Bethany Hopkins, who will evaluate each project and approve funding of the project.
If the project is successful and approved, Tasty Products can receive up to $10,000 financial

contribution from the Council to enable Tasty Products to implement the project.
Tasty Products are located on a large acreage property, surrounded by gardens, grassy areas and
bushland; and as managers regularly host clients’ meeting there; the gardens must be well
maintained. For ages now, Tamas, as a result of Bill’s directive, has been sending emails to employees
asking them to be more conscious when using the taps in the bathrooms. In the past, he implemented
competition for all employees to encourage minimising water usage, which resulted that Tasty
Products now having a new policy when purchasing new toilets and taps to ensure that they have
water reduction capabilities. The new purchasing policy also specifies that employees, prior to
purchasing new items, are to check if they can be sourced locally. Another policy implemented also
included staff to reuse, repair and resell. The overall business plans and strategic direction for Tasty
Products is to minimise their ecological footprint and this coincides with the local Government Policy,
which is being strongly endorsed by the Central Coast Council.
Knowing the company’s preferences and business direction and Council’s initiative, Bill, Tomas and
Roman want increase Tasty Product’s water saving capabilities and hence reduce the company’s
ecological footprint.
Roman, as he is the Project Manager, has a great overview of the company policies and procedures
and will be developing the business case for the Council. Ronan has three (3) weeks to develop the
business case draft and present it to Bill and the management team for comment prior to being
submitted and presented to Bethany at the Council.
a. List examples of government bodies and/or other organisations that would be relevant to
Tasty Products in this case study.
b. List the types of policies and procedures that Tasty Products would have in place that
relate to the case study?
c. List and explain the laws and legislations relevant to Tasty Products in regards to the
work activities relevant to the case study and explain how these legislations impact on
the organisation especially when change of management and organisational development
is concerned.
(Guide: list 3 for each question or 1 full page of information for the 3 questions)
Currently, as per the requirements of strategic direction, Tasty Products need collaboration with other organisations
for developing and maintaining environmental sustainability in business as well as reduce the ecological footprint
from the environment. Hence, in order to achieve this goal, Tasty Products needs to associate themselves with
those organisations that provide low cost but efficient solutions to deploy various environmental sustainable
systems that are able reduce the environmental footprint. There are numerous government funded organisations or
bodies that spread awareness among the people regarding conservation of natural resources and also provide
assistance to ensure the natural resources are not misused. The current main requirement of Tasty Products is to
raise awareness among the employees to save natural resources before further steps are taken to reduce
environmental footprints. Hence, association with such organisations and government bodies will help Tasty
Products to develop a suitable plan and roadmap for further implementation of the initiative.
As per the initiative described in the case study, Tasty Products want to implement their current initiative of
developing environmental sustainability and also conserve natural resources that would enable them to reduce
their environmental footprint. In order to reach these goals, Tasty Products need to develop a set of policies and
procedures that would enable to establish the usage guidelines regarding effective utilisation of natural resources.
Some of the policies that can be implemented are listed as follows.
i. Every employee must ensure the wastage of water must be stopped and the usage must be restricted so as to

There are various government legislations and guidelines that govern change management procedures as well as
organisational policies that are being implemented. There are also various laws and legislations that provide
guidelines to the organisations for helping in conservation and environment and reduce environmental footprint.
Tasty Products must ensure these legislations and guidelines are followed such that introduce change of
management as well as environmental conservation initiative that will help the company to establish environmental
sustainability.
1.4. Each organisation has its own culture. Managers should understand the particular culture of
the organisation they work for to assist them with implementation, improvements and the
development of the organisation. Read the case study below and answer questions as
indicated.
Case Study 2 – “Tasty Products Merger”
Read the case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting
to complete the question. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification about the case
study.
Case Study 2 Tasty Products Merger
Tasty Products PTY LTD (Tasty Products) and Cake’s Delights Pty Ltd (Cake’s Delights) are two
companies situated in the Central Coast of NSW. Tasty Products have been operating for nearly 30
years. The company has solid processes in place and good and loyal clientele. Some of the staff have
been working there for the full 30 years. Tasty Products likes to employ older and more responsible
employees.
On the other hand, Cake’s Delights has been operating for only 4 years. Their products are currently
gaining momentum in local coffee shops and small privately owned supermarkets in the Central Coast
area. Cake’s Delights employees are young people, usually school leavers. Some of their employees
have been signed up as trainees and therefore their wages are quite low but they have a local job and
do not have to travel to Sydney for work.
Tasty Product’s Director, Bill Compton, and his Financial Controller, Tomas Trumper, have been in
negotiations with Cake’s Delights owners who have decided to sell their business as they find that the
business is eating into their personal lives.
The reason of why Bill wishes to purchase Cake’s Delights is that their products are becoming quite
popular. The Cake’s Delights baker/owner, Reinhold Schubert, being German, has been baking
traditional German bread and cakes, which have become extremely popular with the up and coming
trendy coffees shops around the Central Coast.
Bill and Tamas have been meeting the owners from Cake’s Delights in private up until now. This was
because Cake’s Delight’s owners wanted to wait till the process of the sale was near to completion.
Now that the transaction and sale has been approved and the process has been finalised both
companies advised their staff. Tasty Products will absorb the Cake’s Delights staff.
Bill and his team from Tasty Products have held a meeting with both the companies to introduce

themselves and to explain of their future plans. Cake’s Delights staff were quite vocal during the
meeting and were not impressed when they were informed that they will be moving to Tasty Products.
They are worried about losing their jobs and also don’t like the fact that Tasty Products staff are much
more senior.
It will take about 3 months to close the Cake’s Delights site and move all staff into the Tasty Products
facility. Then all new staff will be tested and possibly some training will be provided to them to ensure
that they understand Tasty Product’s processes. It may also mean that the new staff coming across will
be required to sign a new contract with Tasty Products.
a. List the aspects of both of organisations’ cultures and list the differences
b. Explain how the merger will affect on Tasty Products and all the old and new staff; and
c. Explain what Bill and his management team should plan and prepare to ensure that the
implementation of the new staff into their process is successful.
(guide: approximately 400 words for the table below)
a) From the analysis of the case study, it can be seen that the organisational culture is quite different between
Tasty Products and Cake’s Delight. While Tasty Products employ mainly senior staff with experience, Cake’s
Delight recruits young staff who are generally inexperienced and fresher. Hence, while Tasty Products has a
very professional and stereotype approach towards business, Cake’s Delight follows a more casual approach
that also helps them financially as pay lower wages to the employees.
b) While the merger will have significant impact on the Cake’s Delight staff, it will have much lesser impact on
the Tasty Products stuff. However, with the inclusion of Cake’s Delight culture in Tasty Products, the Tasty
Products’ employees will face certain changes in their culture as well. The current employees of Tasty
Products are much senior than the Cake’s Delight staff and hence, they will feel much less active and efficient
than the young staff. In spite of the problem, the senior staff can help mentoring the young staff with their
experience that will ultimately be beneficial for Tasty Products in the long run.
c) It has been seen that the employees of Cake’s Delight are not happy with the merger and more so because
they were not told about the merger. As a result, Tasty Products management needs to proceed with proper
planning to ensure the best employees of Cake’s Delight do not part ways with the merged company. As a
start, Tasty Products can call a meeting only for the existing Cake’s Delight employees to discuss about the
organisational roadmap that will integrate all the employees of Cake’s Delight within the organisation.
Furthermore steps include employee feedback system through which Cake’s Delight employees can provide
improvement feedbacks to the company and also a training program where they will be screened and trained.
One of the strategic moves can be the announcement of hike in the salaries of Cake’s Delight employees that
would increase the probability of the employees to stay in the merged company.
d. List three (3) aspects of organisational culture that can affect organisational development
and explain how to address each when planning and implementing a development plan.
Aspect of Organisational
Development:
How could this be addressed in planning and implementing:
Professional Approach
Professional approach to work is one of the primary requirements for
any business organisation. Every employee must be trained to exhibit
acceptable professional approach within the organisational premises.
Right Mix of Experience and
Efficiency
Right mix of experience and efficiency is the key to success of any
business organisation. With the experienced senior employees of Tasty
Products and the young efficient employees of Cake’s Delight need to

Organisational Behaviour
Organisation behaviour refers to the behavioural interaction between
the employees of an organisation. In this case, Tasty Products should
utilize a particular theory that provides guidelines regarding the
suitable organisational behaviour for an organisation.
1.5. Refer to Case Study 3 – “Tasty Products Merger” and complete topics addressed in this
activity.
Read case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting to
complete questions. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification about the case study.
Case Study 3 Tasty Products Merger
Tasty Products PTY LTD (Tasty Products) and Cake’s Delights Pty Ltd (Cake’s Delights) are two
companies situated in the Central Coast of NSW. Tasty Products have been operating for 30 years.
Some of the staff have been working there for the full 30 years. Tasty Products likes to employ older
and more responsible employees. On the other hand, Cake’s Delights employees are mostly young
people, usually school leavers who have been signed up as trainees or apprentices.
Tasty Products have purchased Cake’s Delights three (3) months ago and now all of the Cake’s
Delights employees have moved to the Tasty Products location as planned.
Bill and his team from Tasty Products have held a meeting with all staff to make the new employees
welcome to the Tasty Product’s site and talk about future plans. Bill thought his original Tasty Product’s
employees will be easy to adapt as he knows each and every one of them personally but has always
been worried about the new staff.
Tasty Product’s HR Manager, Samantha, has been organising all new staff member evaluations and
booked every new employee for a skill assessment so that she can identify their knowledge and skills
gaps. So far all has been going well. The new and old employees seem to be getting on; and 3 weeks
have come and gone with minimal incident.
However, today, she had Martina in her office sobbing. Martina is a 20 years old trainee who has been
assigned to work in the reception. Her traineeship is 1 year and she is half-way through her studies. At
the end of her studies Martina will graduate and obtain the Certificate III in Business Administration.
Martina is friendly and helpful young lady and Samantha is surprised that she is feeling this upset.
Samantha asked Martina a few questions and discovered that she is feeling very anxious about
working at the reception. She is working with Betty at the reception. Betty is 58 years old and has been
a receptionist at Tasty Products for 11 years. Betty has always had the reception to herself and now
that Martina has started she cannot understand why all of a sudden there is a need to implement social
media and electronic processes such as Skype for business to communicate with staff around the
factory and offices. Every day Betty would take messages at least 3 times a day to all the employees
around the offices and front of the factory. She thinks that if Skype for Business is implemented her job
will become very impersonal and she will only communicate with the team leaders and other office
staff on the phone or via Skype. Plus she doesn’t really like mobile phones, her old Nokia is just fin and
she does not need to have an email on the phone as she has one on her computer at the reception.
When Martina first started Betty was very nice to her but now that Martina suggested a few
improvements Betty has become quite short with Martina. Martina feels like she is not welcome in the
reception anymore. On top of that Martina also finds that everyone that comes to the reception seems

to want to talk with Martina and Betty just keeps to herself and only speaks to employees that she
knows. She is never interested in speaking to anyone new that comes to the reception and that means
that Martina is busy and is constantly behind with her own tasks. Betty then comments about Martina
being slow. This morning Martina overheard Betty in the photocopying room talking to another office
lady and when Martina walked past they both hushed. Martina now feels very self-conscious and that is
why she went to see Samantha in her office.
Samantha listened to Martina and now she must decide what to do. Samantha has been the HR
Manager at Tasty Products for 5 years and has never had any issues with Betty before. She is quite
taken back about Betty’s reaction to all Martina’s suggestions. Samantha always thought that the older
workers and Tasty Products staff will be the easy ones to adapt to the new workers who joined them
from Cakes Delights so she is surprised.
Lucky for Samantha, Bill sent Samantha to Conflict Resolution Training when he purchased Cake’s
Delights to prepare her to deal with issues surrounding staff.
a. Research and list conflict resolution steps that Samantha would have learnt in her conflict
resolution course and paste them in the space below and;
b. Explain how Samantha can resolve this issue between Betty and Martina to ensure that
the issue does not become a huge major conflict.
(guide: paste conflict resolution steps and reference the source these steps came from – word count
for the full table is 300 words)
a) Based on the study of the presented case, it can be seen that a conflict has arisen due to differences in
opinion between Betty and Martina. There might also be some sort of miscommunication and
misunderstanding that have led to the issue. Samantha has very limited conflict resolution course in this
matter as the main source of conflict in this case is technology. It is easily known that any progressive
organisation will prefer to utilise technology as much as possible as it enhances the efficiency of operations
and on the other hand, no organisation will accept personal preferences of employees when it comes to the
operations. Hence, the only route out of this conflict is to let Martina understand the need for technology and
how she can adapt with the system.
b) As a part of conclusion resolution step, Samantha can consider calling a personal meeting with both Betty and
Martina together. In this meeting, Samantha should try to understand the points of both Betty and Martina
regarding their viewpoints on the particular matter. Samantha already knows that since the company is
progressive and the technical needs are high in the current market, Betty is right to suggest the use of social
media and other applications for various work at the organisation. Moreover, Samantha should also try to
know exactly why Martina does not want the introduction of social media or any other technical stuff in the
system. The recommended solution in this matter is the one suggested by Betty and in that case, Samantha
should let Martina understand why the organisation needs to implement more technology as a part of the
operational plan.
c. Samantha’s HR duties include evaluating employee skills and knowledge, develop
evaluation processes and record outcomes. Review Case Study 3 and in the space below
provide minimum of 2 complete examples on how Samantha could evaluate all new
employee’s skills and knowledge of their processes to ensure that all employees know all
their duties and perform them safely and efficiently at all times.
(guide: 200 for the table – each must be well explained)

activities (guide:

Two evaluation activities that Samantha can undertake are as follows.
Personal Interview – This is not a job recruitment interview, rather this is an interview that
is mainly conducted to listen to the employees personally. Samantha can call employees one
by one in the interview room and can allow them to talk about anything including their
feelings about the company, their grievances and suggestions. This is a very effective
method of evaluating employee skills and knowledge but it is very much time consuming and
will be very exhausting for the HR manager.
Questionnaire Survey – This is shorter but less effective method of evaluation in which the
employees are provided with a questionnaire (set of questions, multiple choice). All the
employees need to do is to select the most suitable option under each question and submit
the form back to the HR manager.

Scenario 1 - Bounce Fitness
Your Sydney Site Manager, Linda, is aware that you have just completed your studies in Leadership and
Management and that you wish to apply your skills in the workplace. This is great news for you because
Linda recognises your new skills and has assigned you a project, which is to review the Bounce Fitness
direction and identify improvement opportunities to increase the Sydney Centre’s revenue. Linda has
given you all kinds of documentation so that you are able to check on current processes and services
being offered by the Sydney Centre and enable you to identify any improvement ideas that can be
introduced and considered for Bounce Fitness to increase its profit in the Sydney Site.
To start with your evaluation of the business of the Sydney site, you meet with Linda, and discuss the
following topics:
Confirmation of company history
Services provided
Products sold
Company’s need to increase profit
You took lots of notes, especially when Linda mentioned about the small food takeaway counter serving
chips and strips. The takeaway occupies a corner of the Bounce Fitness foyer. Their lease is ceasing next
month and Linda has not renewed the lease with the owner. She does not like the type of food being
served by the takeaway as the food does not portray the healthy image that Bounce Fitness wishes to
portray. However, Linda has also mentioned that she is worried that some of the Bounce Fitness clients
may sign up with the Hyde Park Gymnasium as they have a nice modern light canteen for their patrons
which serves healthy foods and fresh fruit juice drinks. They also have a meeting room which their
clients can book for meetings if needed.
Your next meeting will be in a week so you can come up with some ideas for business improvement and
possibly confirm her needs.
Your notes:
Bounce Fitness is made up of four fitness centres. Head office is currently established in Cairns,
Queensland. The other centres are in Brisbane, (Queensland), Sydney, (New South Wales) and
Melbourne, (Victoria).
It was established in 2001 by Margaret House as a single aerobic studio. After two years’ membership
increases demanded the small leased centre be expanded and a new facility was built on land
purchased by the organisation. In 2004 a second centre was established in leased premises in Brisbane
and then Sydney and Melbourne in the subsequent two years.
The Head Office remains in Cairns and a Board of Directors has been established to oversee the function
of the business in all of the centres. Each centre has a General Manager (Centre Manager) who reports
to the CEO in Cairns, and a team of permanently employed fitness instructors and other casual
instructors, all of whom report to the Centre Manager.
The business is operated on best business practice and complies with all legislative requirements, local
by-laws and is registered with the national body.
Bounce Fitness intends to market its brand through excellence in service and expertise to establish itself
as a premier provider of fitness and wellness in Australia.
All centres are carpeted in areas used for stationary activities, spacious, well-ventilated and air-
conditioned to make the environment as safe and comfortable as possible. They are light and feature

Each centre features a retail section selling fitness shoes, clothes and other related fitness items. There
is a small takeaway was in the building before the gym has opened and it is leased to a provider.
Each Centre has scheduled various fitness classes ranging from high intensity to low intensity. The
scheduling is left to each Centre but must sustain a minimum average of twelve in each class for them
to continue to be held. The style of classes changes as new methods are developed to sustain interest
and provide variety.
Funding is primarily from memberships. Memberships are sold on one, three, six and twelve monthly
bases on a decreasing fee scale. Casual members are welcome, but the daily rate is a premium one.
Each Centre sells memberships to 120%. This means that at peak times it could be quite crowded, but
experience demonstrates that there is a maximum of 80% usage.
The retail arm of the business accounts for about 30% of the takings from each centre. The strategic
plan for retail is set to increase investment in sales this year to 35%. Each Centre will be given a budget
to develop and implement a sales and marketing plan to trial. The most successful may be implemented
nationally and will attract an incentive for the most successful Centre. When discussing this, Linda
mentioned that the current takeaway shop lease is included in the retail business income. The takeaway
lease, is reconsidered during each annual planning session by the Board, which produces 5% of the
income, less than the rent off-set.
You have reviewed your notes the aim to identify business needs or issues and possible improvement
ideas prior to having a meeting with Linda again and the team of other staff members that Linda has
asked to participate.
You have also been able to access the following plans to assist you with evaluating and analysing
Bounce Fitness operation and future needs. (Bounce Fitness Strategic and business plans, marketing
plans, the budget and other. All these plans are accessible on the Bounce Fitness website and also have
been downloaded for your convenience by Linda to save you time.
2.2. It is important that managers understand their organisation well prior to deciding on
developing the organisation.
Download the Strategic Plan for Bounce Fitness and other business and marketing plans that
may assist you with this activity and complete the table listing your findings.

can be accessed from their website, incl. various plan, staff and financial information, etc. For
your convenience some of the plans are uploaded onto your student portal as well)

overview.
The organisation provides fitness training classes on membership basis and also
allows a retail counter for casual food takeaway. However, the company wants to
attract more people to join the fitness classes and hence, it wants to display a
healthy image for marketing purposes. As a result, as per the company CEO, the
lease for the retail takeaway will not be increased since the casual fast food sold
by the store is not a healthy image for the fitness studio. The company wants to
modify the strategic direction so that it promotes a very healthy image and

What needs to
change in the
business to best
support the new
vision,
strategies and
objectives?
Currently, the main change required is removing the takeaway counter from the class
premises. Instead, the company can give the lease to a new seller who will sell healthy
food and drinks that are mostly associated with the fitness classes.
Another option for the company is to hire chef and a manager on a permanent basis
and open a canteen counter selling healthy food and drinks. In this case, outsiders can
buy them for regular prices whereas the members can have discounted prices for the
items.
Areas of staff
development
needed for plan
to be
implemented:
In order to implement the above plan, a food and health staff can be appointed. He can
provide a clear idea about what types of food can be sold from the canteen and will
also provide suitable dieting suggestions for the fitness aspirants.
Create a
development
goal for each of
the development
areas listed
above:
The main development goal of the development area mentioned above is to provide
healthy food and drinks to the fitness aspirants so that they can feel more inspired and
stay at the fitness studio for training instead of moving to other gyms or fitness studios.
2.3. Role-play:
Organise and role-play a meeting with Linda and other Bounce Fitness team members and
consult with them so that you can further profile Bounce Fitness. During your meeting discuss
and confirm the organisation’s readiness for change and development. We estimate that the
role-play will be approximately ½ hour or as directed by your assessor.
Your assessor will complete a checklist at the end of this assessment task and provide you with
feedback about the skills you demonstrated during your role-play.
You must meet with your trainer and assessor prior to conducing you role-plays to ensure that
you have been able to explain to him/her what was prepared for the role-play and that you
have equal opportunity to demonstrate your preparation and understanding of the roleplay
prior to you doing it.

a. Your assessor will arrange small groups (between 4-5 of your colleagues) so that you can
plan for the meeting and advise them of the meeting. This will be your group for Bounce
Fitness meetings. You must first advise Linda and all team members of meeting time, date
and topics to be discussed. The process should be as follows:
Email Linda and the team and invite them to the meeting. Email should include:
o The agenda items (list of topics) to be discussed, the time and date
o Encourage the team to add to the agenda (as needed)
o Ask each team member to bring information (or data) where Bounce Fitness
experiencing problems, needing improvements for the team to discuss and analyse

iii. Use the following space to type / write notes from your meeting so that you can then
insert them into your Meeting Minutes
In the meeting, it has been discussed that the organisational culture needs to be
modified slightly to suit the needs of the new strategic direction of Bounce
Fitness.
It has been agreed that a project manager will be deployed who will supervise the
implementation process.
Everyone has agreed that the business faces some shortfalls in attracting more
youths due to lack of healthy image and marketing techniques.
It has been found that the organisation is mostly ready to adapt to any changes
and the existing employees are quite eager to see the changes as suggested.
It has been agreed that at this point, the organisation mostly needs changes in
the marketing as well as operational development.
All the members have agreed upon a suitable change management strategy that
will be most effective for the organisation.
All have agreed that the information will be communicated to Bounce Fitness staff
in a face to face meeting in which, all the agreed points will be explained in detail.
c. Complete meeting minutes and write down the points discussed in the meeting about the
organisation.
Each student must write and submit own meeting minutes (either using the template
below or from Bounce Fitness website templates)
Although students may have similar answers from their meeting however all
students must be made aware that their meeting minutes must be in their own
words and not copied from other students
Students are to attach or copy and paste information and data collected from the
meeting and these can be inserted in space (iii) above or attached and reference
given to the assessor where this documentation is located so the assessor can check
it during marking of this assessment task
At the meeting Linda informed the small group of your team colleagues that she has
negotiated a $380 thousand credit loan for the organisational development, having
in mind that she is very keen to get the coffee shop going. Linda really wants the
group to consider all pros and cons of the possibility of building the new coffee shop
and prepared a few points to discuss such as: loss of clients once the current
takeaway closes, the new nice kitchen the gym around the corner has and the
possibility of clients having meetings there when they finish their sessions and
before they have to go back to their offices and etc... Although she wants to only
discuss it at this stage and also cover what other ideas the team may come up with.

It is important, when you develop any plan in the workplace that you consult with others and
ask them to evaluate the plan, relevant data collected when developing the plan, discuss and
confirm the plan’s content and receive feedback.
As part of the consultation process about the Bounce Fitness Communication and
Developmental Plan you are now to hold your consultation meeting with Linda and the team so
you can present them with the plan and explain its content. To complete this activity, you are
to:
a. Again, as with the previous meeting, invite the team to the meeting. Use the SBTA email.
Receive confirmation of attendance. Paste a copy of your email to the team and the
received emails in the space below.
PLEASE FILL
b. Chair your meeting once you all attendance confirmations have been received. During
this meeting you will be required to give the team a copy of your plan and evidence
collected and also a budget. You will present and discuss with the team:
Review the Bounce Fitness budget. With the team review the scenario and the Bounce
Fitness website again, check on all relevant documentation; and discuss if the Bounce
Fitness proposed development and the plan meets the budget requirements.
Review the 3 quotes so Linda and the team can determine if the coffee shop is
feasible and which quote is preferred by all present.
Then present the plan content, and with the team analyse all the data including:
business goals listed in the plan, check if they are appropriate and do they meet
Bounce Fitness strategic goals.
Discuss and confirm communication process and strategies for each target audience
that you proposed in the plan, are the target audiences that you selected and
described appropriate and are all communication strategies proposed in the plan
relevant and appropriate to the audiences.
Discuss strategies on how to gain maximum participation by all stakeholders who are
relevant to the developmental change so this information can also be added into the
plan after the meeting.
Use the group to articulate foreseen problems and seek their input and proposed
means for resolving the problems. Discuss possible interferences and intrusions during
the proposed implementation and running of the developmental plan and with the
group problem-solve and brainstorm and come up with alternative proposals.
Negotiate their suitability and agree on new outcomes which will be added to the plan
after the meeting.
Student instructions: Please note: your team must come up with at least one
correction of the plan and one problem so you can demonstrate that you have taken
their feedback on board and corrected the plan and finalised it.

3.1. Scenario 1 – “Bounce Fitness - Conflict”
Read the case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting
to complete questions and activities below. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification
about the case study.
Scenario 2 – Bounce Fitness - Conflict
You have been busy finalising the Development and Communication plan. The overall feedback is
positive and everyone is now looking forward to having a nice new coffee shop at the gym.
Linda called you into her office to discuss an issue that has just come up and wants you to deal with it.
Since your last meeting when the team confirmed that Bounce Fitness is to have a new coffee shop in
the foyer, Mario has been excited. He has been keen to move from the admin. area into the new coffee
shop. And he told Bill who thought that it was a great idea.
Both Mario and Bill work in the back office supplementing their income in addition to teaching classes at
the gym. The admin work is boring but as their classes are only 20 hours a week they must do other
work. So, when the idea of coffee shop came up they both started talking about their hospitality skills.
They are both keen to move out of administration and use their hands serving.
Bill has been in hospitality for many years before he became a trainer with the gym and Mario has been
a barista in Italy and expects to be appointed as the barista in the coffee shop. He is currently working in
the evenings in another coffee shop so he has good and current experience.
Today, Linda came into work and Mario and Bill were arguing about who would be more suitable for
working in the coffee shop. They used to be very good friends but apparently this argument has been
going on since the planning meeting a week ago and now they are starting to argue aloud. Its effecting
other staff because Bill is not talking to anyone and Mario is venting to all of his customers and staff
about it. Everyone else is apparently getting fed up with it.
Linda gave Mario a verbal warning today and told him that discussing such issues with clients and
customers is not appropriate. She also called in Bill and told them both that she will be conducting
formal interviews for any of the jobs in the coffee shop and anyone will be welcome to apply, internal
and external applicants will be welcome.
Mario is now even more upset with Bill, he believes that Bill only wants to work in the coffee shop
because Mario told him about it and wants Bill to acknowledge that Mario being a qualified barista is
therefore more suitable. And because of Bill, Linda is now going to interview - basically it is all Bill’s fault.
Linda knows that you have a very calm manner and that you have good conflict resolution skills since
you used to work for a HR department in your previous job and had some conflict resolution and
customer service training. Linda also told you that she wants the boys to work in the coffee shop and is
happy to share their shifts but wants them to calm down and not argue as it is effecting the other staff.
Linda wants you to sort it out, conduct some kind of conflict resolution process and get the two
employees back on tract. Also both employees need to know that by moving them into any new role,
that Linda will need to advertise and replace them from the gym and the reception.

Your assessor will organise small groups and you will be role-playing this scenario. Your
assessor will be completing a checklist at the end of this assessment pack and provide you
with feedback about your role-play.
You are to meet with Mario and Bill and role-play the following:
a. Review the conflict resolution steps, notes and the learner guide when you were
researching about conflict resolution techniques.
organise a meeting with Mario and Bill’s in the aim to resolve their conflict
get them both talking and discuss their issues
use conflict resolution skills and steps you researched to assist you with the meeting
and resolution
consult with both Bill and Mario and get them to problem-solve and come up with
their own ideas on how the recruitment should work
The aim is for you to facilitate and ensure that the meeting resolves the issue and
both Mario and Bill will come to a consensus or an amicable agreement about
working in the coffee shop.
b. Ensure that you take notes in the meeting and use the meeting minutes’ template to
record the progress of the meeting and the outcome. (Or you can develop a report style

Selection of
candidates for
the coffee shop
In order to ensure fair selection process for staffing the coffee shop, interview process is
the mostly preferred process. However, in order to offer more priority to the internal staff,
special attention can be given to the internal staff who apply for the interview.
Mario or Bill? Or
both?
Mario and Bill both want to be associated with the coffee shop but it is clear that they
have quite different skill sets. Hence, both of them can be chosen – Bill for attending the
customers and Mario as the barista at the coffee shop. However, other candidates will also
be evaluated. Either way, the interview process should be fair and square and only the
best candidates will have to be chosen.
c. Email the meeting minutes to Bill, Mario and Linda and ask both Bill and Mario to confirm
the outcome and agreement that was reached at the meeting. Their email replies and
responses are to be copied and pasted in the space below.
These emails will demonstrate your communication and also your ability to gain a
consensus or an agreement between Bill and Mario.

3.3. Scenario 2 – “Bounce Fitness - staff development”
Read case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting to
complete questions and activities below. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification
about the case study.
Scenario 2 – Bounce Fitness - staff development
The coffee shop will be open soon so Mario and Bill will both be away from the admin area. This means
that Rebecca will be moved from the reception and Linda has asked young Maree to work part time at
the reception. Maree is only 17 and is great fun. She is good with people and smiles a lot and is good on
the phone. However, she will also assist the admin team with some emails and writing of some small
correspondence and she completed 2 trial sessions at the reception to show Linda that she is capable to
be left in the reception.
Linda noticed that Maree is not all that good with corresponding with clients. Her emails are very short
and abrupt, she never puts Hi or Hello at the front of the client names. Sometimes if the person is young
and she knows them from the gym she will put Hey. All her emails are all in low caps. She is treating her
work emails as if she was speaking to her friends using her Facebook. She uses for example ‘plse’
instead of please or LOL and puts smiley faces at the end of the emails. And as she wants to do
everything so fast her spelling is also not great.
Linda knows you have experience with coaching and are good with emails and customer service. She
asked you to develop Maree’s skills, organise a small coaching session and show and teach Maree some
email examples. Then follow up with Maree and check that her emails have improved.
Linda asked you to ensure that you exchange a few emails with Maree so that she learns how to
communicate with others via email correctly. Linda has already advised Maree and Maree is keen to
have you teach her and as always is positive about her learning.
You have arranged a time with Maree. Now you need to prepare a short coaching plan / session plan so
that you can teach Maree and have a structure for the coaching steps planned well.
3.4. Role-play.
Your assessor will organise you into pairs and you will be role-playing this scenario and
coaching Maree (each other). Your assessor will be completing a checklist at the end of this
assessment pack and provide you with feedback about your role-play. You must each role-play
the coach so that you can collect the required evidence from the coaching. The coaching
session should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
To prepare and conduct the coaching you need to complete the following:
a. Use the table below and develop a short session plan of steps you will be coaching Maree
or you may choose the smart goals to develop your session.
(guide: develop about 5 steps in the table below – word count 300 words)

company called “Bounce Fitness”.
Please note: if you have an opportunity to use your own real workplace please review this full task
and meet with your assessor. Your assessor will determine if the workplace scenario is suitable for
this task.
In this task you will be demonstrating:
Undertake surveys to identify any loss of support for organisational development programs and
activities and services
Set out activities and interventions in the organisation development plan and maintain, evaluate
and modify them as required
Organise and participate in regular team meetings and individual feedback in accordance with
communication plan
Ensure senior management reinforces organisation development program by ongoing messages
of support and appropriate resource allocation
Evaluate organisation development plans in terms of costs and benefits, including opportunity
costs
Activities
4.1 Scenario 1 – “Bounce Fitness - Maintaining organisation development”
Read case study below and ensure you understand the case study well prior to attempting to
complete questions and activities below. Speak to your assessor if you require clarification
about the case study.
Scenario – Bounce Fitness – Maintaining organisation development
The coffee shop is close to opening so now the plan is to ensure that staff and clients are well aware that
soon it will be opened.
From the Bounce Fitness financial information and the budget, you know that the coffee shop only falls
on the 5% of income and Linda wishes to make it 10%. Linda wants you to organise a survey of the new
services of the gym and see if everyone is still supporting the coffee shop.
You have checked against the quoted cost and established that the cost of the kitchen so far and is close
to opening is up to $356,000. You have identified that so far 10 table with 4 chairs each have been
purchased to open the coffee shop. The council has approved the coffee shop to have 60 patrons at any
time. There is limited space so you are not able to insert more tables but an area against the window

You have investigated similar coffee shops in close by areas and found the following information:
Gross margin is the ratio of net sales less food costs to net sales for the coffee shops and the Small
Business Development Centre’s 2012 report you analysed, food costs take up about 15 percent of
revenues on average. The average coffee shop, then, has a gross margin of 85 percent. On an
average, 250 Cups of espresso and coffee drinks are sold per day at almost any espresso business with
a great visible location. (500 cups per day is extraordinary.) Independent coffee shops manage to sell
31% of espresso-based drinks, while the rest is brewed coffee. Coffee drinkers tend to be older,
with 74% of adults aged 55 and older consuming it daily, versus 50% of those aged 18 to 34. Among
coffee drinkers, those younger than 35 tend to drink fewer cups per day on average (1.8) than those
aged 35 and older, who consume roughly three cups per day. This means that Bounce Fitness will have
adequate audience who would be inclined to visit the coffee shop. You have also researched fresh juices
and have identified that 95 of coffee shops serve fruit drinks and 35% of these have fresh squizzed
juices and spring waters.
As your team will be looking and evaluating the budget, you wish to discuss and obtain ideas from the
group about opportunities using the rest of the budget to increase the ability to serve more patrons as
Linda wishes to increase the profitability of the coffee shop.
Before the meeting Linda also wants you to organise the following.
Develop a survey and survey some clients to check if they are aware of the new coffee shop and
how they feel about it and if the support for the coffee shop has not minimised.
Set activities to promote and re-enforce the organisational development (the coffee shop) including
messaging clients regularly as well as staff which Linda her-self will be sending out to everyone
Check and evaluate the Bounce fitness budget and advise if there would be a benefit and
opportunities for other organisational development and if the budget would allow this.
You set out to organise all of the above and bring all this information to the meeting.
a) You are now required to use the space below and develop a short survey about the
organisation development and survey minimum of 5 colleagues from your class.
You can use your SBTA email again and email the survey in the body of the email to the
colleagues. As evidence of you doing so you are required to collect and / or receive
responses which you can copy and paste in the space below as evidence of your
conducting the survey. The survey must determine:
Is the organisational development well publicised to all stakeholders (the coffee shop)
What should be done to improve more communication about the organisation
development
Identify if there are any lapses of support and why
Are there any changes required to the developmental plan or communication process
about the coffee shop and why?

c) With the group evaluate the overall development plan, check that the survey and
feedback still fits in well with the developmental and communication plan.
Scenario: Bounce fitness – coffee shop promotions
You have identified that the communication to the clients was not clear and 1 third of
the clients do not even know if there will be a coffee shop and when it will be open. So
you are going to discuss this at the meeting with Linda and the team and discuss how
Linda should best communicate the coffee shop opening to the clients.
d) It is important that the budget for building the coffee shop is reviewed and evaluated.
Review the information in the scenario (Bounce Fitness – Maintaining organisation
development) above and with your team discuss the money spent and further
development opportunities. Evaluate the budget and with the team discuss if the budget
would provide an opportunity of if the organisation would benefit from more
development. Use the space below and provide an overview of any ideas that you may
have. (guide: minimum of 2 ideas and explanation about the budget’s suitability)
4.2 Role-play
You are to hold a meeting and bring all surveys, their outcomes, the budget and your ideas
and any other documentation that you have collected to the meeting. Again you will be
meeting with your team and role-play the meeting. You will then be required to complete
meeting minutes and send them to the team.
Your meeting will be attended by management, including Linda and the team. You are to
discuss and complete meeting minutes’ template and list all communication conducted.
At the end of the meeting you are to:
Modify and evaluate with the whole team the communication and development plan and
discuss and amend any communication strategies as required and if required.
Discuss how to ensure that the organisational development plan is being communicated
well in the future
Discuss how Linda is to communicate the plan to all stakeholders including all clients and
ensure everyone knows about the coffee shop opening.
Discuss if the budget and cost opportunities will allow for any further organisational
improvement.
Discuss and agree on any future meetings, dates and times and ensure you record them

with the clients
regarding coffee
shop
Since it is known that the most of the customers are not aware about the coffee shop, it is
required to communicate the new business with the customers. This can be done through
system generated text messages or face to face communication when the customers
come to the studio for training.
Promotional
techniques
Promotional techniques will play a very important role in communicating with the existing
and potential new customers. Social media platforms can be utilized for service
promotions as well as information about the new coffee shop that will soon be opened.
