INTRODUCTION
In the recent time, manager are required to maintain Health and safety atmosphere so that
employee put maximum efforts in order to attain the estimated targets (Cornelissen, 2017). In
this project, different role and responsibilities, health and safety issues and ways to document a
risk are discussed. In addition, emergency plan procedure, implementation of initial response and
monitoring of emergency response is discussed.
Overview of organisation
ABC is a medium size chemical distributors which was established in 2000 that deliver
205 L drum and other liquid solvents such as acids, detergents and corrosives. There are 50
employee that are responsible for different operation such as decanting chemicals and these staff
member are not fully trained to deal with any sort of emergency. In company there is a yard
which surrounded by cyclone fence so that all waste can be collected and given to waste
collector.
Body
Roles and Responsibilities:
Companies should have a clear understanding of what might be all regarding Environmental
Safety and health. The explanation why this principle is known contributes to effective
implementation of EHS. This includes the creation of a structured and coordinated approach to
compliance with environmental legislation, managing massive waste and/or drastically reducing
carbon footprint of company. Company must ensure that organisation's health and safety plan is
successful and all staff, suppliers and seasonal workers are informed of their respective
individual responsibilities. Cooperate with individual assigned as Safety Manager over entire
range of specific roles and responsibilities including reviews, audits, reporting suggestions,
legislative changes and guidance received from other resources. Company must ensure that
appropriate health and safety learning system is set up and also that security culture of staff is
promoted.
Obligations of PCBU/ Officers/ Employees:
PCBU has primary duty to ensure employees' safety and health when working in company or
firm. PCBU is also committed to determining work performed does not pose a risk or injury to
other people's health and security (Ezeuduji, 2015). PCBU should:
 Maintain and develop safe work-environment.

 Maintain and develop safe and secure structures and plants.
 Maintain and develop secure work system.
 Help make sure plants, structures and materials are used, treated and stored safely.
 Provide appropriate facilities (and retaining admin rights);
 Provide education, key data, and oversight.
All Officers and employees are obliged to:
 In compliance with orders, perform assigned activities and responsibilities in a safe way
and conform with safety guidelines / operations, legislation and codes of conduct.
 Acquire and utilize the appropriate tools / machinery for job and don't employ any
dangerous or defective machinery. It is necessary to keep all devices, equipment and
personally protecting equipment in appropriate place after using it.
 Make absolutely sure that almost all safeguards are properly secured and that everything
necessary security equipment and individual protective equipment is used. To notify their line leadership of any crash, near-miss, hazardous incident or dangerous
situation.
Health and Safety issues in ABC organisation are as follows-
Explosions: In a chemical industry work is performed with chemical's that are triggered
by sparks and high temperature. This adverse condition leads to unfavourable working
conditions for all the workforce working in the ABC company.
Leakages: Activities are performed with gases and chemicals that are highly reactive and
dangerous for health of individuals working in the business organisation. When any leakages
takes place in the ABC organisation then employees health and safety will be in danger.
Long-term damages: Certain chemicals have a miserable effect on health of an
individual when chemical is continuous in connection with them and it will be an health issue for
employees of ABC organisation.
Potential Emergencies-
Hazards that could leads to emergency in ABC organisation are fire accidents as
chemical reactions with fire can leads to explosions and can create critical conditions (Gössling
and Peeters, 2015.). Together with this release of toxic chemicals in the premises may put life of
employees in danger and it become a emergency situation to save life of employees working in
ABC organisation. Emergencies that are faced by ABC can be related to fire with chemical

reactions and leakages in the chemical pipes and tanks that may hinders situation by putting life
of all the employees on stake with that accident.

The measures taken during an emergent situation's immediate moments were crucial. An
urgent alert to escape, cover or lockout by workers could save lives. A call for assistance to have
complete and correct information to the community emergency services may support the
operator with getting the correct responders and resources. The first priority when an emergency
happens will always related with safety of people. The primary concern is the accident's
recovery. It is possible to take several steps to resolve an incident and mitigate possible damage.

There are number of risk and emergencies that can be faced by company which could impact the
overall performance. In the ABC Ltd there can be risk of building collapse as it was build in
2000, there can be chances of fire, leakage of chemicals that could mix with water line. It is the
responsibility of manage are responsible member to make proper identification of resources to
meet the contingencies within company. Such as ABC manager determine the all possible crucial
resources such as fire extinguisher to avoid fire losses, arrange a team that regularly inspect the
chemical drums and pipeline so that leakage is avoided. In order to make proper assessment of
all possible emergencies within ABC manager requires to make sure that there are enough
equipments so that there impact of issues can be reduced (Higham, 2018).
Proper and effective training are always consider to be the best means to make employee
aware about the current business situation and actual standard within industry. Training provide
employee the detail knowledge about performing different task and make a aware about the laws
and regulation to be followed while doing specific task. Employees obtaining the appropriate
training were better capable of carrying out their jobs. The learning would offer the worker a
better sense of their roles and in effect build confidence. Typically, increased productivity if a
organization holds training programs. Improved production productivity would ensure work
performance, that will in effect boost customer retention including possible market shares.
Initial response
Emergency plan can be described as plan of action including procedures and practices
which can be used to deal with sudden and unexpected situation. In context of ABC Chemicals,
it is necessary to organise effective training sessions for staff to deal with emergency
circumstances in order to remain safe at work place. However, it is required to put board of
warning for vehicles on side of the roads to reduce speed for avoiding accidents. Moreover, it is
essential to make proper availability of emergency doors, windows and fire extinguisher top deal
with sudden situations.
As a safety advisor, it is necessary to make employees remain aware of hazardous
condition at work place and immediately inform to the management authority regarding the
same. It is important to encourage staff of organisation to follow safety policies and rules to
remain safe at work place. Meanwhile, it is required to encourage organisational authority for
ensuring proper condition of emergency, door, windows and other equipments mandatory to deal
with emergency situations (Jovicic, 2014).

In context of ABC Chemicals, the post event activities include to overcome with the
situation and take effective steps to avoid emergency circumstances in future. It is necessary to
determine causes of specific accidental situation so that it can be eliminated from work place in
enhance security of staff.
Monitor Emergency response
Risk are needed to be monitor is an effective manner so that overall impact can be
reduced and there are more possibility to completely avoid the risk. In context of ABC the
responsible manager are required to consult with entire team member and discuss the factors that
might develop the ways to that lead to different emergence situation. The also make proper
assessment of different ideas and thought provided by team member in order to remove the risky
factors. Registrations of risk is an important step to be made by manager but at the same time
they are also required to make proper reports regarding emergency response so that company
profitability can be increased. It is important for documenting response because manager can
make sure that the action taken to remove the risk are favourable or there are still need to make
future improvement. At the same time it is also important for the manager

In conclusion of this report, it has been concluded that manager are required to make
effective and valuable plans and register to assess the risk. They also make effective plans so that
emergencies can be removed and company profitability can be increased.
