generally stimulated by providing best quality services and satisfying the customers to the high extent. This
goal or objective clearly reflects the strategies followed by the organization and in order to keep the level of
satisfaction high, certain plans are made. They include designing of surveying programs, communicating
with the customers about the changes made so as to directly know about their needs and incorporating the
goal through a mission statement. As far as my responsibilities and accountabilities are concerned, I will give
my best to implement the plans made and carried out the procedures as required. Keeping in mind the goal
of customer satisfaction, it is my responsibility to deliver best quality in my work. As an employee, I will
interact with the customers face to face and give them the surety that they will be highly satisfied with the
services provided by the organization. Another factor which is added to my responsibilities is to keep the

9. In our introductory class, you examined the ‘deep holes in your sidewalk’. What
personality traits or habitual behaviours do you have which might stop you from
accomplishing your vision and reaching your goals? How could you handle each one to
improve your personal?
Following are some habitual behaviours or personality traits which stops me from achieve my
targets:
Short-Tempered: It is one of the personality traits which I have in myself. I
usually gets aggressive on small things which does not look good. This also
affects my relations with the co-workers as well as my goals and targets. One
thing which I can do to avoid this and improve my personality is that to
identify the source from where the frustration or anger arises. In addition to
this, working on dealing with the situations in a calm and composed manner.
Punctuality: It is another bad point in my habitual behavior list. I often came
late to office which eventually hampers my productivity and also diminishes
my performance. As a result of which I have to face some penalties imposed
by the management. Also it is not a good sign of professionalism. In order to

overcome this issue, all I can do is, try to come at work on time without any
possible delays and feel motivated about achieving the set targets.
Resisting change: I have a kind of personality which generally do not adopt
to the changes quickly. I usually resist the modifications done in the
organization structure or in the working pattern. Being reluctant to the
changes, affects my performance a lot as I cannot cope up with the new ideas
and innovations. One thing which I can do to improve this is that, start taking
part in the changes, accept them and work accordingly.

INSTRUCTIONS
Read each question carefully. Ensure you have provided all required information.
On completion, submit your assessment to your assessor via the LMS.
You are to answer all questions.
1. List personal and/or professional commitments/responsibilities you currently have.
Describe two work methods or practices you use to plan and prioritise to meet
deadlines, etc., to improve your performance.
To integrate life and work successfully, you need to make 10 clear
Commitments that will help you:
Honor what you’re made of and what you want over the long arch of your life and care
Make the impact you long to in your life, career, and with your family
Stand up and speak up for what you need and want each and every day
Make the tough decisions that pave the way for long-term success
I hated being on someone else time clock, having no control over my schedule, and
answering to others. I hated doing meaningless work that drained me of all my life
energy. And I’m not alone. So many people are fed up with the traditional competitive
career model that continues to define corporate America. Research shows that by end
of this decade, one half of the working population will embrace career independence

Breaking One Task Down Into Bite-Size Pieces
The lesson many of us never learn is that one large task can always be more easily accomplished in bite-size
pieces over a long period of time. If you are given a project to complete in the next two weeks, the right time to get
started is that very day. When you first receive a project, you should take out a calendar and find a way to break it
into four or more evenly spaced parts. Don't just mark the final deadline date. Give yourself mini-deadline dates per
segment and meet them, whatever the cost. Failing to meet one of your own mini-deadlines should be regarded as
a failure to meet the final deadline
Plan Ahead
Meeting deadlines is a lot like playing a good game of Chess. Good chess players plan five to ten moves ahead.
Bad chess players only concentrate on the current move. If you always focus on events several days down the
road, you'll be better equipped to handle any potential crises that pop up. It also allows you to set aside a day or
two before the final deadline to polish your project and add finishing touches. Don't just focus on today - focus on
the whole week.

2. State two ways you use technology efficiently and effectively to manage personal and
professional priorities and commitments. Provide an example of your scheduling
(photocopy of diary, spreadsheet, etc.).
In today’s world, technology is the one thing which is the solution to all the problems. By
making an effective and efficient use of technology, I can easily create a balance
between my personal and professional commitments. Ongoing developments in the
technology has helped many of the people in managing their work-life balance. The first
thing which I do is to prioritize my commitments, both personal and professional. After
that, with the help of electronic spreadsheets, I prepare a to-do-list and a daily task list
which I am supposed to do. Apart from the spreadsheets there are various applications
on my smart phone which helps me in managing my tasks. For example, I can easily and
effectively manage my emails on my phone which result in saving a lot of time.
Computer based electronic spreadsheets are used for preparing schedules, which
contains a list of the daily tasks related to both personal and professional life.
Another way through which I can adjust with both of my commitments is the video
conferencing tool. It is the best technology as it enables me to address my work issues
when I am busy meeting my personal commitments. I can do this video call and interact
with my team mates anytime and from anywhere. This helps me to maintain a balance
between my personal and professional priorities and also make life easier and sorted.
However, it is very important to use and manage the technology effectively, otherwise it
could bring disadvantages to the employees. While using it, one should have proper and
clear knowledge about the application or the system which is been used. Example of a
schedule:

3 While attending to the responsibilities in Q1, explain four ways you manage
stress and attend to your health to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Maintain good work-life balance?
In order to maintain a healthy work life, I prioritise my commitments and responsibilities
properly. By doing so, I am able to allocate sufficient amount of time to my personal as well as
professional works. After prioritising, I set some working hours for each and every task which I
am supposed to do and make sure that the same has been completed within the provided
time. This helps me to save time for my personal things. Along with this proper management
of finance and workplace also helps in marinating a healthy work life balance. As an
employee, I prefer doing following things which guided me in making a balance between my
work life and personal life. These are:
Focusing on my strengths that what I am capable to do and outsourcing others.
In other words, if I am not capable enough to perform a particular task, I
outsourced that and saves time.
Prioritizing my task from most urgent to least urgent and setting work hours for
each of them helps me to manage my time to a great extent.
I keep a positive attitude towards everything and everyone, communicate well
with my co-workers and respect their opinions and responses.
Document Page
Making the best use of technology facilitates me to manage my finances, work
meetings and personal relations.
Apart from these, in order to keep myself healthy and stress-free, I regular do yoga and go to
the gym for keeping my mind fresh. Having a fresh mind helps me to complete tasks on time
and perform better. The yoga and gym sessions also keeps me fit and helps in leading a
healthy life.

You work as the food and beverage manager for Kingfisher Garden Centre. Your organisation
is reviewing plans, policies and procedures and conducting appraisals to inform personal
development planning of all staff, including yourself.
Task 1: Assess competency against organisation’s plans, policies and
procedures
Answer the following questions.
Q1: Read your job description, located in the ‘Additional Resources’ folder in the Student LMS,
Food and beverage manager job description. Outline any organisational plans, policies
and procedures you should be familiar with while working in this role.
As a food and beverage manager, I have certain responsibilities and duties which are to be performed. My
responsibilities should be in accordance with the organization plans, policies and procedures. Following are
the policies, which I should be familiar with:
The policy of giving high level satisfaction to the customers by providing best quality products and
services.
Document Page
Plan related to preparation of monthly and weekly budgets helps me to have an idea about the
costing and expected profit, our company is going to make.
Policy related to the training given to the staff regarding cleanliness, food safety and preparation,
bar skills and other aspects. Knowing about the training policy and cost helps me to perform my
function in a better way.
Procedures followed for maintaining quality control in the products and the regulatory compliance of
the organization should be in my knowledge. I should be aware about the process and type of
regulations which are required to be compiled with.

Q2: You’re doing a performance appraisal of Jim, the barman at Kingfisher. You’re checking
his cleaning knowledge and skills against competency standards to determine his
training needs. You have identified the tasks he is competent and not competent in.
Bar closing checklist
Cover and store all perishable items.
Restock the fridges, wines and cool room.
Prepare the bar stock requisition if required.
Disconnect the tap beer and run through the water.
Polish the wine glasses.
Clean all fridge doors and all stainless steel areas.
Clean all small equipment and store appropriately.
Drain and clean glass washer and filter, then re-plug and switch off.
Wipe down the bar top and under it, the mirrors and the cash register.
Place all chairs on top of the tables.
Roll up the mats and take outside to be cleaned.
Remove the rubbish, clean and sanitise bins.
Assess Jim’s knowledge and skills and state what training you would give him, in order of
priority, so he can improve his competency.
Looking at the bar checking list of Jim, it is observed that he is not at all competent in his
cleaning knowledge and skills. He does not polish the wine glasses and clean the
equipment and stainless steel areas. Also he does not have a habit of keeping all the
chairs on the top of the table, when bar closes. In order of priority, the first and the
foremost thing I would like to train Jim about is, giving him a clear knowledge about
health and hygiene. I would make him learn the fact that it is very important for our
business to provide healthy and hygienic services to our customers. I make him aware
about the consequences of not keeping the place clean and tidy. Apart from providing
theoretical knowledge, I would also give a practical training about how the wine glass is
been polished and how to store all the equipment properly. After the cleaning thing, I
would also train him about arranging the things in proper way. This includes keeping the
chairs on top of the tables as when bar closes. Leaving them scattered will lead to
wastage of time and also hampers the productivity of others. So I would make Jim aware
about how to arrange the things properly and keeping them in place.

Following are the interpersonal skills, I peruse to build a positive relationship with my networks:
Communication skills: I make sure that I communicate properly with the people and make them

Team-working: It is one of the skill which I use the most. As being able to work with others as
team in a group helps to establish healthy relations with your co-workers.
Problem solving: Another one is to identify, define and solve the problems that arise at time of
working with other people. This skill somewhat helps me build a good rapport in front of others

6. Communication is an important part of networking. List six ways to communicate
effectively with others.
Ways to Communicate Effectively in the Workplace
1. Choosing the right time and creating right environment.
As it is said that, there is time and place for everything, so in order to have an effective communication one should create a
right environment and should find correct time to start the conversation.
2. Feedback Asking.
It is very necessary to take a feedback of every conversation. One should just wait for the response of other person and
should also respect his views and opinions.
3. Avoid quick and fast interaction.
Generally, having a rush communication will lead to misinterpretation or misunderstanding between the people. One should
listen other carefully and try to understand their view point before giving any responses.
4. Follow up.
Another measure to make a conversation effective is to take a follow up of the thing which are been communicated and
discussed, rather than assuming that everything is understood and received. Follow up results in less mistakes and less
misunderstanding.
5. Awareness about the gestures and postures.
One should be aware about the body movements, facial expressions, eye contact and other gestures and postures of the
person to whom he is interacting with. Proper understanding of nonverbal cues may lead to good communication.
6. Use of proper and simple words
In order to have an effective, understandable and good communication with others, one should use simple words and put
them correctly in his sentences. The language must be easily understood and words should be clearly spoken.
Satisfactory Unsatisfactory x
7. Describe a time you selected and used appropriate conventions or protocols when
communicating with a stakeholder or someone else in your network.
Document Page
At one of our conferences, I used following protocols and conventions while communicating
some information to a stakeholder:
Graphical representation of the data, that helps in providing clear understanding of the
complex information to the shareholders and other people.
I prefer using newsletters, formal reports and memos which contain written information
about the subject.
Apart from these, verbal communication protocols like talking on call and discussing the
matter is also one of the most used method.
Satisfactory Unsatisfactory x
8. Describe how you maintain contact with the people in your networks.
By making it my priority to keep in touch with the people, helps me to maintain close and
effective relations with them. I also use social media platform such as Twitter, Whatsapp
and many more to interact with my office colleagues and other people. Attending each and
every possible business events and seminars allows me to communicate with my people
easily and be in touch with them. I have also set Google alerts, which notifies me as and
when something happens with my bosses and colleagues. Another thing which I do
maintain a contact is to be helpful for others which in a way creates a positive image of
myself in front of my office people. So these are some things which I do to keep a good
contact with people in my networks.
