Introduction:
The stages in risk management which succeed implementation is monitoring and
evaluation of the risk management steps implemented. These two stages actually indicate the
actual effectiveness of the implemented risk management strategies in the light of the actual
situation. The aim of the paper would be delving into monitoring and evaluation of the risk
management steps implemented at Pitshop Pty Ltd.
Part 1. Review of the simulated workplace:
Pitshop Pty Ltd was leading fuel and convenience marketing company located in
Australia. The company had operations in several locations in Australia including Victoria,
Queensland and New South Wales which signifies that financial strength of the company. The
company operated under the leadership of Jim Murphy. The financial strength of the company
was also evident from the fact that it used the strategy of takeover to expand its business. The
second aspect of the company which transpires from the analysis of the previous two assignment
was that the company had a very stringent risk management policy.
Part 2. Consultation with the managers:
Part 2a. Organisational requirements for WHS management:
Pitshop Pty. Limited should measure and evaluate the requirement of the WHS plan. The
case study reports that the company did not maintain proper WHS policies. The company’s
employees of the company suffered injuries due to improper WHS policies. These factors led to
lack of motivation among staff members which led staff members absenting from office. The
floor was not dried on daily basis. There had also been cases of employees tripping against

stocks piled on the floor and burns. It can be inferred from the discussion that the entire WHS
strategies of the company required to undergo changes.
Part 2b. Setting KPIs targets:
The management of Pitshop Pty Limited should set goals for managers and employees.
The key performance indicators or KPIs should be financial and non-financial in nature. The
financial KPIs would consists of profits and reduction in loss productivity due to injury of
employees. The non-financial KPIs consist of reduction in the accidents of the employees and
reduction in employee absenting from work. The financial KPIs would also include increase in
the productivity owing to fall in employee absenting.
Part 2c. Audit and reporting process:
The management of Pitshop should establish a system of auditing and reporting of WHS
risks. They were, identification of the hazards, clearing the area of hazard of employees and
customers and separate the hazardous area from rest of the premises on temporary basis on
prevent the hazards like chemical from spreading. The next step was to clear the hazard and
report to the manager present on the floor. The final step of the WHS risk management process
was to complete all documentations.
Part 3. Summary of the consultation meetings with the managers on performance
monitirng and audit:
The consultation meetings with the managers of Pitshop Pty Limited namely Jim, the
CEO and other managers should be held on implementation of performance monitoring and audit
procedures. The management should compare between the actual risk management parameters

achieved against the target parameters. This would lead to recognising the methods which would
be implemented to deal with underperformance.
Part 4. Amendments of the KPIs:
The key performance indicators should be amended to cater to the new business
requirements of the company. The KPIs should aim to ensure great levels of risk control and
reduction of employee injury.
Part 5a. Relationships between data and WHSMS targets and performance indicators:
The gap between WHSMS targets, data and performance indicators are interrelated. This
is because lack of past data about work, health and safety management systems prevents
managers from taking accurate decisions regarding WHS management in Pitshop. This would in
turn result in less reduction in accidents which would in turn impact the productivity of the
company. Thus, it is evident that scarcity of data results in poor WHSMS which in turn leads to
poor productivity, which means poor achievement of KPIs.
Part 5b. Possible causal relationships between data and aspects of the WHSMS
implementation:
The causal relationships between data and aspects of the WHSMS implementation are
interdependent. More availability of data about past WHS risk management cases means that
managers at Pitshop would be able to obtain more historical information. This means they would
be able to take better decisions regarding present risks. This discussion establishes the
relationship between the data available and WHSMS implementation.

Part c. Possible improvements to address root causes of performance issues:
The possible improvement to improve the root causes of performance issues should
consist of holding meetings and participation of all subordinate employees.

The existing procedures at Pitshop are not commendable and to be improved.
Part 6. Consult with the board of directors and senior management (in role-play) to present
WHS performance data and recommendations.

consultation would be presenting WHS performance data and recommendations.
Part 7. Propose design of WHS:
The data would be presented. The presentation would start with explanation of the review
process and emphasise on continuous enhancement of health and safety.

control in its workplace.

The analysis of the report shows that the company had a very poor risk management
level. The possible causes of the very poor risk management were lack of managerial attention
