INTRODUCTION
Project management refers to managing and organizing the resources which are needed in
order to complete the project. It has a complete life cycle under which various steps has been
performed. It is considered with an objective and all the activities are performed in order to
achieve that objective. The project life cycle has a fixed time frame under which the project has
been done. This report illustrates the concept of project management. The stages of project
management or project life cycle has been described. Each stage of the project management
involves large number of activities and all the activities are needed to be performed in efficient
manner, so the project management can take place efficiently. (Kerzner, 2019). The report also
highlights the project life cycle of in house catering under the large manufacturing organization.
The organization has decided to take up a project in order to perform their CSR towards the
employees and environment. The project manager will perform all the necessary steps of the
project life cycle with his team.

PART 2
An overview of the given case study
The case study highlights the issue facing by the large manufacturing organization. The
organization has strength of 1250 employees which are working in the different department of
the organization. The organization does not have a canteen facility. Therefore, the employees has
to go outside during the lunch break. The movement of staff during lunch breaks creating an
issue of congestion in local areas and reducing the productivity of the employees. The
organization has decided to take a project in order to provide in house catering facility to the
staff. The manager believes that making of canteen will result in solving the problem of creating
congestion in local areas and along with this helps in providing a healthy food to the employees.
This will result in healthy lifestyle of the employees and increase their productivity in the
organization. Through this, the organization will perform its CSR towards the environment and
employees.
The organization has decided to take a project of making canteen in the organization and
the project has been given to the project manager in order to perform the project life cycle of
making the canteen.

Project life cycle
Project life cycle refers to the complete management of the given project. (Blomquist, Farashah
and Thomas, 2018). The project manager will perform this cycle in order to provide canteen
facility to the employees of the organization. The manager will perform this project life cycle in
four steps which are project initiation, project planning, project execution and project closure.
Project initiation
This is the first step of the project cycle which is to be performed by the project manager. Under
this, the manager will analyse all the elements related to the making of canteen and assembles
the key resources. The manager will perform this step by keeping these elements in mind that are
mentioned below.
1. Key partners- This involves the suppliers who arrange the resources and the raw
materials for starting the project. The key partners for the firm will be the suppliers who
provide good quality of raw materials in less cost.
2. Goals– This describes the main objective of the project. The main objective of the
organization behind this project is reducing the absence of the employees by providing
them healthy lifestyle along with this one more goal of the firm is to perform CSR
towards environment by reducing the congestion problem.
3. Stakeholders- This refers to the investors and customers for the project. The investor for
the organization will be the shareholders and debentures who contribute in raising fund
for the project. (Kristen, D.N.P., and et.al.,2018). On the other hand, the customer will be
the employees of the organization. The firm assures that their customers get good amount
of satisfaction.
4. Roles & responsibilities- Under this, the project manager will allocate the roles and
responsibilities to all the members who are considered as the part of the project. The
responsibilities are delegated on the basis of the capability of the members.5. Risk- It involves assuming the risk from the starting. (Hinnebusch, 2017). The firm may
face two types of risk and that is financial risk due to the shortage of finance and the risk
of changing business environment.

Project planning involves deciding the time frame of the project within the designed stages and
resources. The project manager forms a time frame and all the activities related to the project
will be performed under that time frame. Project planning involves these elements.
1. Time frame- The project manager of the large manufacturing organization has decided
the time frame of 11-12 months for the completion of the project. (KurzydłowsKa, 2017).
All the activities has to be performed under this time frame in order to make the canteen.
2. Scope planning- This planning involves the WBS and gantt chart. WBS refers to work
breakdown structure. Under this, the manager divides the whole work into smaller parts
in order to perform them with efficiency. On the other hand, the gantt chart is prepared by
the management team to show the starting and finishing date of the project's elements.
The WBS of the project :
The project manager has divided the whole work in different parts with the help of WBS. All of
these departments are categorized under one main goal. The gantt chart includes the time frame.
The chart is showing starting and finish date of each and every element of the project along with

3. Budget planning- It involves all the expenses which are needed to bear in order to make the
canteen. The budget planning helps in parting the expenses in the different parts and makes easy

the efficient result.
5. Procurement planning- This involves the planning related to the type of resources required
in the making of project. The organization has a project related to making of the canteen.
Therefore, the resources which are required by them is the good quality of utensils, chairs, tables,
fans.
6. Communication Planning- It involves the process of communication that have to be followed
by the team members. Under this, the project manager decides “who will report to whom” the
supervisors and the subordinates has been decided by the project manager in the communication
planning.
Project execution
This is the longest phase during the project life cycle along with this, it is the most demanding
phase. All the activities which has been performed in initiation and planning process has to be
performed practically under the execution phase. The project manager presents plan to the
stakeholders and monitors the whole process throughout the making of the project. (Akhwaba,
Bowa and Keiyoro, 2020). The manager has to perform these steps in nine parts in the making of
canteen.

5. Meetings- This has been organized in order to know, what have been completed till the
date and then the comparison is made in order to know the planned and actual activities.
The manager assembles the team members ask them about the current scenario of the
project execution. This helps the manager in knowing the current risk or issues in the
making of canteen. The immediate actions have been taken by the manager after knowing
the feedback.
6. Updating the schedule- The schedule involves the changing scenario of the project. The
project management team gets guidance through this. In the making of canteen, the risk

project manager prepares a schedule after each and every meeting that guides the
members about, how to cop-up with the risks. The current project schedule shows the

7. Quality assurance- This step is performed under the project execution process as under
the execution process, the manager monitors the whole process. The manger will keep a
check on the infrastructure of the canteen and the type of cement has been used while
making it. The quality has been assured by the manager so the results can be good. The
manager makes sure that the decided standard has been maintained.
8. Acceptance of deliverables- Under this, the project manager observes that the
employees are satisfied or not with the making of canteen and the food. This step is
performed for keeping a check on the acceptance of each and every deliverable.
9. Complete the review- This is the last step. Under this, the project manager completes the
execution phase review. The manager contacts with the stakeholders and completes all
the documentation. So, the project closure process can begin.
Project closure
This is the last stage under the project life cycle. The project closure process includes finalizing
all the deliverables and formally transferred. The canteen has been prepared till this stage and
now the canteen is ready to provide its services to the employees. The project closure process
involves.
1. Arranging the post- mortem- Under this the manager gathers the team and prepares a
feedback about the achievable rate of the project. Complete catalog has been prepared by
the manager after the making of the canteen and the comparison has been made between
the desired result and the actual result. (Jarczyk and et.al., 2018). This helps in knowing
that where the team lacks and helps in providing the guidance for the upcoming projects.
2. Paperwork- A project leads to creating number of documents as these documents works
as a legal proof. The manager keeps a focus on all the documents which involves the sign
off of the project and an approval on this from the stakeholders. The documentation has
been done with the help of the project management software. The documentation for the
canteen project involves all the fees, commissions, invoice number and proof regarding
the payments.
3. Release resources- The manager releases all the resources which has been gathered in
order to make the canteen. It involves the internal and external resources. The internal

ones are the people within the organization. A special team has been prepared in order to
carry on project. After completing the project, the member of the team get back to their
departments. On the other hand, the external ones are the contractors and labours to
whom the contact has been given in the documentation step their payment has been made
and then the organization released them.
4. Archive documents- The manager archives all the data, documents and records related
to the making of canteen. (Tompson and Rehfeldt, 2017). These document proves to be
useful for the organization in their upcoming projects. These documents act as guidelines
in the future.
5. Celebrate success- The last step of the project closure process involves celebrating the
work done by the members of the organization. The manger reward the team in order to
complete the making of canteen project on time with the desire results.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that the project management plays an
important role in completion of the project. The project management is the complete life cycle of
the project which has been performed in four parts. Performing all these process leads to efficient
result. Without performing the project life cycle, the project cannot come into an existence.
Apart from this the report also clears the concept of project management performed by the
manager of large manufacturing organization in order to make a canteen in the organization. The
organization has promoted the CSR by making the canteen. The organization ensures healthy
food to the employees which implements the healthy lifestyle. And along with this CSR towards
environment has also been performed by reducing the outside movement of employees during
their lunch-time.
