While in college, Erica served as treasurer of the class of 2011 Spirit Club where she befriended
members of the club especially the president; Matt and the deputy president; Laura. For efficient
running of the club, it had to engage in some business activities in order to raise money for the
club’s business. The business was to purchase and sell T-shirts. Initially, there was some cash in
the club’s account and they wanted to buy T-shirts from an outside vendor. Therefore the money
in the club’s account could not be used. Members of the club had to raise the cash for them to
acquire the T-shirts. Members had to make prepayments to Matt who in turn would use his own
credit card to buy.
The club decided to set the selling price of the T-shirts at a given fee which would enable it to
make some profits. As the treasurer of the club, Erica together with Laura at the end of the
semester had to prepare books of accounts that contains all the business transactions of the club
(Haq, Rothenberg, Gjerde, Bobula, Bickley, & Joseph, 2000). Erica discovered that the bank
statements did not match the sale of the T-shirts. Matt had some money in his account and has
not deposited back to the club’s account (Newbery, 2016). Below is an action plan that Erica
wants to use to ensure that the unused money from the members’ contribution is deposited into
the club’s account.
