Task 2
Scenario
The clients, David and Tara King, are satisfied that the double garage
and workshop will allow on-site storage of most construction
materials while they build their new home, but they need you to
design this structure and show the location in the zoned area. They
require a rainwater tank attached to the garage with workshop, which
will cater for all new vegetation they have planted at the rear of the
property, while the residence is being built.
The Kings would now like you to prepare a sketch plan of the
proposed single-storey residence. In addition, the Kings also need you
to determine the location of the 6m X 10m garage with workshop
located within the zoned area, at the rear of the site. You must
specify the garage location by drawing the footprint in the zoned
area, as shown in Appendix A.
Follow these instructions to prepare drawings that reflect the client’s
requirements and variation to the original site plan they received when
purchasing their property.
Task 2.1 - Drawing 1: Repurposed Site Plan
You are to produce a site plan drawing which includes the
building/residential footprint and garage with workshop, as
described by the clients.
Your 2D freehand Site Plan with building footprints drawing must include:
Scaling at 1:200 on A3 paper (to show in more detail)
All drawing patterns/hatching as indicated over the single storey
residence
Design and locate the position of the 6m X 10m Double garage
and workshop in the zoned area

Drawing 2.2: Orthographic drawing
You must create an orthographic drawing (scale 1:50 on A3 paper) of
the double garage and workshop:
2 Elevations of your choice
1 Section through the garage/workshop
1 Roof plan
Your drawing must:
be drawn freehand, at a scale of 1:50
show the natural lighting to the garage (e.g. skylight, window/s)
include the 2,000-litre rainwater tank showing tie-in plumbing
with piping
use international conventions, including object labels
include a title block
Please note: at a scale 1:50 you will represent windows and door framing as well
as detailed elements of external walls, downpipes, gutters and roofing material.
Task 3
Task 3.1 - Prepare a written example to explain your understanding
of the difference between provisional sum (PS) and prime cost (PC).
Maximum 150 words.
A prime cost item refers to the specific amount of money included in a
contract sum to purchase a specified item such as taps or bathroom
fittings while a provisional sum is the amount of money included in the
contract cum to cover materials and work whose extents cannot be
specifically calculated in the time of contract signing.
In the provisional sum, the contractor is privileged to add attendance
costs and mark up costs to the provisional sum. If the actual costs
happen to be higher than the quoted provisional sums then the contract
sum is increased while if the actual costs are lower than the quoted
provisional sum then the contract sum is reduced.
Prime costs may be classified as defined or undefined sums:
Undefined sums are those costs that are not well defined and thus
