Summary
This journal gives an assessment of net zero energy performance in buildings. At the
same time it explore definitions of ZEBs as well as several techniques of calculation of energy
consumed. The intention of the author was to show an overview of some main pointes for
creating ZEB current definition. In his work, the author illustrated the definition of net zero
energy source, net zero energy site among other significant definition. The author illustrated the
net positive energy via the use of net zero energy in some buildings in Tianjin, China. This
helped a lot in showing how energy consumption can be reduced, here he focuses on the use of
natural light as well as the use of solar PV system. These two ways of reducing the energy
consumption were incorporated in the process of the building design. And in his conclusion the
author gives some useful tips on the ways of realizing the ZEB.
Evaluation
This article is a good ZEB introduction, I can confirm that it shows a perfect ZEB
introduction which for sure enabled me as a reader to fathom some concept. From the article it
can be seen how NZE is striking a balance between the generation of renewable energy through
solar PV and the energy consumed in the net zero energy buildings. During the publication time
all the definitions which are related to yearly generation / consumption were perfectly given. The
discrepancy in definition only relates to what was being measured that was generation of
renewable energy, emission and cost of generation. Current articles and journals will probably
illustrate how this definition will have changed.
