The main motive of the business organisation is to stay for the long term within the
market. So, one of the important aspects to remain in the competitive business environment is
sustainable development. The term sustainable development refers to the process of developing
and balancing the needs of the future generation without hampering the needs of current one.
(Bansal, 2019). This report is basically done on various organisations having different operations
and functions. This report includes about the sustainability of the business and its impact on the
long term competitive advantage in respect to the organisations. Further, attributes and
capabilities which are essential for the business success are also discussed within the report.

Sustainable development basically focus on the utilizing the resources effectively and
efficiently so that business can find new opportunities that leads them to be more unique and
innovative. Sustainable development helps the business organisation to give more focus on long
term strategic planning.
Advantages of sustainable development
There is lower impact of sustainability on the environment that helps business to achieve
the growth and success in the long term. With respect to Mark and Spencer, the company
provides environmental friendly products to the customer due to which their less impact
on the business.

opportunities within the market in order to get a proper and valuable position among its
competitors. This leads them to expand their business on the global platform also.
Through new opportunities the business are also able to provide customers with the new
and updated versions of the products and services.

Every function of the business are interrelated and interconnected which helps the
business organisation to achieve the goals and objectives. The necessary attributes and
capabilities that are required for the success of the business in complex and changing
environment are as follows:
Strategies: As organisation should adopt different strategies in order to gain
competitive advantage (Won, 2018). So the needs and preferences of the customers
should be taken into the consideration which helps them to achieve maximum profits.
Here the TESCO adopts various new strategies and plan which leads them towards the
growth and success. Due to proper strategy the respective company is able utilize the
resources properly in a productive manner. This leads in reduction of wastage of
resources and it saves lot of time.
Styles of leadership: It is very important for every business organisation that leader
give more focus on working collectively in order to achieve the target smoothly
(Worthy, Dawson and Tavakoli, 2020). So, Mark and Spencer adopts participate
leadership style which leads the employee to participate in the decision making process.
Through this the employees are motivated and overall performance is also increased
which assist the organisation towards the growth and success.
