INTRODUCTION
The article selected for the study relates with the “cumulative effects of bullying and
racial discrimination on adolescent health in Australia.” The major reason for the selection of
this article is that this is related with the adolescent health and bullying (Cumulative effects of
bullying and racial discrimination on adolescent health in Australia, 2019).
MAIN BODY
Detail of article
In the current article the major examination was how cumulative exposure to racial
discrimination and bullying victimization has influence over the health of adolescents. This is the
major issue which is currently going on in the world as there are many adolescents who cannot
take the pressure of bullying and discrimination and this can lead them to take some serious
steps. With the study of the article it was found that the higher bullying and racial discrimination
has negative impact over the working and living of the adolescents in Australia (Priest,
Kavanagh, Bécares & King, 2019). The major reason identified in the study was that because of
both these the stress among the children and adolescents. The major impact of this is that these
stresses affect the health of the child to a great extent. Also, this affects the person emotionally
and psychologically as well. From this the major learning is that for managing the health of
adolescents the most important thing is to keep them away from the bullying and other sort of
discrimination. The major learning from this is that if a child faces bullying or any other
discrimination then this creates a negative impact over thinking of person. Further this affects the
future of that person as well and they will have difficulty in taking their future decisions. All
these bullying and discrimination adds and accumulates and create a negative impact over
thinking and perception of the person and affects the decision making process as well.
Interpretation of the article
The understanding from the article is that for developing a child or an adolescent in good
manner it is essential to keep them away from any discrimination and bullying. The major reason
for this was that both bullying and discrimination creates a negative and fearful impact over the
mind of child. From the article is also seen that this can sometimes also lead to mental disorder
and mental illness of the child. The major reason underlying this fact is that when a child of
adolescent undergo any sort of bullying whether be it physical, emotional, behavioural or any

other type then this creates a negative impact over the person (Chester, Spencer, Whiting &
Brooks, 2017). The child in not in their normal course of life and they have many things going
on in their mind when they have undergone any of the bullying. Also, this result in too much of
anxiety, depression, psychological distress, even sometimes this may result in increase in
suicidal tendency among the child or adolescent. Further from the article it was also seen that the
impact of bullying the adolescent can also affect their physical health and the socio- emotional
well being as well (Hong, Espelage & Rose, 2019). The major reason for this is that all these
issues affect the person mentally and they are not in proper state of mind. This sometimes also
leads the person in the condition of depression and mental trauma and this affect their ability to
decision making.
Evaluation of the article
This article made me felt that if the person is affected by any bullying or any sort of
discrimination in the early stage then this is a bad memory for the whole life. The major reason
underlying this fact is that when the person has some bad memory in childhood then this will
have a great impact over the working of the person. This is particularly because of the reason that
when the person undergoes the bad situation then this creates mark over the whole life of person.
The major reason for this is that when the person undergoes any specific event then this creates
marks for lifetime and this sometime may result in emotional outburst (Jackson, Vaughn &
Kremer, 2019). This created an impression in me that it is of utmost importance that the child
must be taken care at the early age because the damage caused in early age rest for whole of the
life. Thus, for this it is essential for the adolescent to have proper and effective life so that they
can live happily their whole life.
Reflection from the article
With this article i learnt that the most important thing in nursing is that if a person
especially an adolescent has taken for care then it is the duty of nurse to take special care of the
patient. The major reason is that the bullying situation might have created a bad impact over the
person. If this will not be handled in proper and effective manner then this would have resulted
in much difficult situation for the person. Hence, in this situation only the nurses and people
taking care of the patient can handle in better situation. The major reason for this is that when the
nurse will try to handle the patient emotionally then this will motivate the person to revive back
from this situation. This will be assistive in nursing to ensure that they know every record of the

patient and this will assist in getting knowledge that whether the person has undergone any case
of bullying or discrimination earlier (Hinduja & Patchin, 2019). Even sometimes many cases
come in the care home setting for some other cases but many a times in any disease the person
can have the traces of earlier trauma and this can slower down their recovery. Thus, in this
situation it is the duty of the nurse or the person taking care of the patient and they have to
handle them in effective and efficient manner.
CONCLUSION
In the end from the above essay it is concluded that in the early age any disease or any
bad incident like bullying or discrimination keeps on major impact over person. Thus, it is very
essential for the person to take care of their life in the early ages as this might result in
depression, anxiety, suicidal tendency and many other drastic changes or steps to be taken.
