1. Identification of Key Problems in the Case Study
The key problem that can be detected in the given scenario is the lack of proper
medical care and attention of elderly inmates at the Bupa Aged Care Home in Seaforth in
Sydney. This lack of care and attention is something that is shocking and unexpected, given
that the inmates of the home are very senior citizens and their family members pay a lot of
money to make sure that they are well looked after in this home (Coates and Fossey 2019).
2. Analysis of the Key Problems in the Case Study
The lack of medical attention and care and the ill treatment of the inmates at the Bupa
Aged Care Home in Seaforth in Sydney is an ethical issue. The management of the old age
home needs to have sensitive and well trained staff in place, who can look after the needs and
requirements of the inmates in the manner that is desired rather ill treating them and
neglecting their needs (Magelssen et al. 2018). Such an ethical issue is hard to overlook or
neglect given the exorbitant amounts of money that customers are paying to have their
parents admitted to this home and looked after here (Hanley and Gilhooly 2018).
3. Alternative Solutions to the Problems Mentioned
Some of the alternative solutions that can be considered in order to resolve the problems
that have been mentioned in the case study are to have a code of ethics established in this
Aged Care Home that all workers have to adhere to. Any violation of this code of ethics
should be punishable by punitive action. Another alternate solution to the problems
mentioned in the case study is to have a legal provision on conflict of interest mentioned in
the employee agreement. Employees who violate this provision by neglecting the inmates and
abusing them in some instances will be seen as working in conflict with the interest of the
organization, an act that is punishable by expulsion from the organization as well as by

punitive action. Thirdly, responsible supervisors need to be hired by this Aged Care Home in
Seaforth who will oversee the performance of duties and responsibilities by the attendants
and other employees and who will report to the top level management of the organization if
they see that certain employees are acting in violate of the code of ethics (John 2018).
4. Advantages and Disadvantages of the Solutions Mentioned
One of the biggest advantages of the solutions that have been mentioned is that these
are going to keep strict control and surveillance over the way in which employees behave at
the Aged Care Home. A Code of Ethics and legal provisions on conflict of interest will make
employees fearful of acting against the interests of the organization and the interests and
needs of the elderly people residing in the home. Having supervisors in place will also ensure
that employees perform their duties and responsibilities in the ethical manner that is desired,
on a daily basis rather than for a few times in a year. The only disadvantage of the solutions
mentioned is that the work environment at the Aged Care Home is going to become very
restrictive and cold, with employees constantly being worried about how they are behaving
with the inmates so that they are not reported against (Muldrew et al. 2018).
5. Selecting the Best Solution
The best solution out of all the solutions that have been mentioned, is to have a code
of ethics in place that will compel all the employees at the Bupa Aged Care Home in Seaforth
to behave ethically and responsibility with the inmates of the home (Shuchter and Heller
2018).
